  • Patent number: 5030073
Abstract: A rotary compressor has a compression mechanism including main and sub bearings closing the ends of a cylinder bore and supporting a crankshaft having an eccentric portion on which a rolling piston positioned in the cylinder bore is rotatably mounted. Oil grooves are formed in the shaft holes of the bearings to receive lubrication oil from spaces defined by the rolling piston, the crankshaft eccentric portion and the main and sub bearings. The eccentric portion and the sub bearing are sized and shaped such that the oil groove in the sub bearing is always prevented from opening to the space adjacent thereto. The drawing force generated in the oil groove in the sub bearing by the rotation of a balancer attached to the lower end of the crankshaft is thereby prevented from acting on the space, thereby avoiding cavitation abrasion of the members facing the spaces.

  • Patent number: 5024584
Abstract: A pump unit comprising co-operating, push-pull connected reciprocating pumps for the pumping in portions of contents to packing containers on a packing machine. The reciprocating pumps (1) each comprise a control piston (4) connected to the pump piston (6) in control cylinders (18), which are joined together in pairs by means of a connecting pipe (20). The pipe is provided with a flow regulating valve (21) for regulating the flow rate of the hydraulic oil and hence the piston speed. The quantity of hydraulic oil in the connecting pipe can be regulated with the help of a supply tank (23) so that the length of stroke of the pistons can be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 5024586
Abstract: A peristaltic pump which corrects the effects of creep on a peristaltic tube. A plurality of spring biased rollers apply a substantially constant force to pinch the tube. A pair of elastic semi-circular sections are retained throughout the entire semi-circular back wall of the peristaltic pump. The pair of elastic semi-circular sections fully restore the initial cross-section of the tube in the area of the race where the rollers are not pinching the tube.

  • Patent number: 5020973
Abstract: A V-twin, two-stage compressor has valve plates disposed between the head and cylinder of each stage and mounting free-floating flexible read intake and exhaust valves therein. The flexible reeds are movably captured between the floors of respective reed recesses, and separate, non-fixed keeper bars are disposed over, but slightly spaced from, the reeds. Keeper bars over the exhaust reed extend above the valve plate for engagement by the head. A restrictor plate lies within a valve plate recess on keeper bars over the intake valve. A cored crankshaft providing motor drive shaft lubrication, and a removable counterweight providing crankshaft use with one-piece connecting rods is disclosed. A cooling fan is driven by the removable counterweight and V-shaped fan shroud projections direct cooling air over the cylinders and heads while another cooling air port directs air over an intercooler.

  • Patent number: 5020977
Abstract: A compressor for compression-evaporation cooling systems, which requires no moving parts. A gaseous refrigerant inside a chamber is acoustically compressed and conveyed by means of a standing acoustic wave which is set up in the gaseous refrigerant. This standing acoustic wave can be driven either by a transducer, or by direct exposure of the gas to microwave and infrared sources, including solar energy. Input and output ports arranged along the chamber provide for the intake and discharge of the gaseous refrigerant. These ports can be provided with optional valve arrangements, so as to increase the compressor's pressure differential. The performance of the compressor in either of its transducer or electromagnetically driven configurations, can be optimized by a controlling circuit. This controlling circuit holds the wavelength of the standing acoustical wave constant, by changing the driving frequency in response to varying operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 5018949
Abstract: The pump has several cylinders which are arranged in a row narrowly adjacent to one another and which accommodate the stroke working spaces of plungers or pistons. The stroke work of the pistons is hydraulically transmitted to diaphragms which close off pump working spaces inside of diaphragm working spaces in the direction of the cylinders. Because of the arrangement of the diaphragm working spaces or of the pump working spaces on different sides of the cylinder block, diaphragms or diaphragm working spaces may be arranged which have cross-sections that are large in comparison to the distance of the cylinders from one another.

  • Patent number: 5017104
Abstract: A stabilizer for vertically driven pumps in which a bearing is supported on the drive shaft approximately half way between the pump and the motor. The stabilizer bearing prevents bowing of the drive shaft which would cause considerable wear on the pump packing resulting in leaks. The stabilizer bearing is supported by adjustable arms each of which have an end which is bent to a 90.degree. angle and then twisted. Each of the ends of oppositely disposed support arms are twisted 90.degree., left and right respectively, after being bent so that the arms will counteract any torque on the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 5013222
Abstract: An electric motor driven fuel pump for a motor vehicle includes a tubular metal housing, a pump in the housing at an inlet end thereof, an electric motor in the housing adjacent the pump, a plastic end cap in the housing near a discharge end thereof, and a plastic RFI module in the housing over the end cap. Brushes for the motor are disposed in brush passages in the end cap and connected to brass terminal studs press fitted into the open ends of the brush passages. The plastic RFI module completely shrouds the terminal studs on the end cap to minimize corrosion and contamination and has a pair of flat metal contact plates embedded therein. An edge of the tubular housing is crimped over the outside diameter of the RFI module and overlaps the metal contact plates so that the plates reinforce the RFI module against forces urging dislodgment of the RFI module and the end cap from the tubular housing.

  • Patent number: 5011381
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a small and compact vacuum pump which serves as a portable vacuum source. The pump basically includes a cylinder coupled with a handle, and a piston in the cylinder coupled with another handle, along with a suitable valving assembly for allowing a vacuum to be drawn at an inlet of the pump. More particularly, there is also disclosed a vacuum release which can be attached to or form an integral part of the pump. The vacuum release comprises a closure member which can be moved upwardly and downwardly in a housing to close and open with respect to a valve seat and, respectively, allow a vacuum to be pulled or release the vacuum. The closure member is arranged to rotate and is biased by a suitable helical torsion spring to normally maintain the closure member in the closed position to therefore normally allow a vacuum to be drawn by the pump.

  • Patent number: 5011380
Abstract: A positive displacement pump is provided which is especially suited to be used as a left ventricle assist device (LVAD). The pump is electromagnetically actuated. An electromagnet produces a pulse which repels a magnet mounted in a diaphragm which forms one wall of a pumping chamber. The pumping chamber thereby constricts and fluid is expelled. The electromagnet has a reverse taper core and core cup magnet which produce a bipolar field effect upon a diaphragm magnet to cause the return of the diaphragm to its starting position, without the application of external power.
