  • Patent number: 4850817
Abstract: A mechanical drive system for use in driving a disposable cassette containing a reciprocating fluid pump and active valves from a main pump unit is disclosed which utilizes a single power module cam to drive both the reciprocating pump and the valves. By using a unitary power module cam, the system completely eliminates the possibility of a timing error between the operation of the reciprocating pump and the valves. A one-way clutch is used to prevent the system from slipping into a reverse operation, and the operation of the valve actuators prevents the possibility of free flow through a cassette installed onto the main pump unit.

  • Patent number: 4844707
Abstract: A rotary pump mechanism is disclosed which comprises a coupling section that couples an impeller and means for driving said coupling section and, in turn, said impeller. The coupling section incorporates most of the components of the pump that wear out and are expensive. As a result, the impeller can be disposed of without disposing of other components. The coupling section can also be changed for continuous operation of a single impeller. Although the preferred application of the invention is in the area of pumping blood and other biological fluids, the disclosed invention has utility in any application where it is desirable to turn an "impeller-like" element.

  • Patent number: 4842492
Abstract: A hermetically sealed scotch yoke compressor assembly is disclosed wherein a crankcase includes annular channels formed on the top and bottom surfaces thereof defining muffling chambers. Gas refrigerant compressed within radially disposed cylinders into cylinder head covers is channeled into the upper annular muffler chamber and them through passages extending through the crankcase into the lower muffling chamber. An annular cover plate for covering the bottom annular channel is attached to the crankcase at its radially inner extreme and is biased against the crankcase at its radially outer extreme. Spacers between the cover plate and the crankcase provide an annular discharge opening directing discharge gas onto the motor windings.

  • Patent number: 4838554
Abstract: A toy money box resembling a slot machine has one money slot where the money enters a store and is returned if the slot machine when operated gives a jackpot. The money box has a second slot where money passes to a store separate from the slot machine and acts as a conventional money box. A mechanism for controlling the slot machine is provided which is simpler than previous mechanisms. In one aspect, the chance wheels are rotated by a gear drive which rotates one chance wheel through a one-way clutch and similar one-way clutches between adjacent pairs of chance wheels impart the rotation sequentially to all of the wheels. A clutch mechanism between the operating handle and the gear drive can comprise a pawl rotatably engaged within a cylindrical sleeve, the end of the pawl engaging a opening in the sleeve for transmitting rotary motion from the pawl to the sleeve and a cam being provided to disengage the end of the pawl when a particular extent of rotation has been reached.
