Abstract: One implementation of a method for providing backup storage services for encrypted data includes receiving signatures of convergently encrypted portions of data from client computers, determining whether the encrypted portions are already present on a backup storage, and obtaining only the needed portions. Users unassociated with a particular user account are denied access to information backed up in that account. The backup storage also stores password protected key files holding signatures of the unencrypted portions of data. One implementation of a system includes a memory, a single-instance storage circuit, a user account management circuit, and a signature index. The memory holds a user-account database and backup copies of convergently encrypted portions of data. The single-instance storage circuit uses the signature index to prevent duplicative backup copies. The user account management circuit responds to download requests after authenticating the user information associated with the requested data.

Abstract: A server printing apparatus which can communicate with a plurality of processors for respectively executing any of not less than one processes included in a print-related process according to a print order, includes a storage unit for storing execution content information indicating execution contents using at least one processor in association with the print-related process according to the print order, an encryption key storage unit for storing encryption keys uniquely and respectively given to the plurality of processors, and an encryption processing unit for encrypting information associated with each of the processors in the execution content information using the encryption key unique to that processor, and the processors are controlled to execute the print-related process according to the print order using the execution content information.

Abstract: An on-line value bearing item (VBI) printing system that includes one or more cryptographic modules and a central database is disclosed. The cryptographic modules are capable of implementing the USPS Information Based Indicia Program Postal Security Device Performance Criteria and other required VBI standards. The modules encipher the information stored in the central database for all of the on-line VBI system customers and are capable of preventing access to the database by unauthorized users. Additionally, the cryptographic module is capable of preventing unauthorized and undetected modification, including the unauthorized modification, substitution, insertion, and deletion of VBI related data and cryptographically critical security parameters.

Abstract: An on-line value bearing item (VBI) printing system that includes one or more cryptographic modules and a secure database is disclosed. The secure database includes account balances and other information for all of the on-line value-bearing item system customers and is capable of preventing access by unauthorized users. Also, a secure communication network is in operation to prevent unauthorized access to the users' data stored in the database. A plurality of subsystems located on the server system side of the on-line VBI system provide services related to purchasing, accounting, and printing of VBI. In addition to the secure database, the server system includes one or more cryptographic modules for authenticating, processing value for the VBI, and generating indicia data for the plurality of users.

Abstract: A digital rights management (DRM) node module for use in a node of a public data includes a node data module that stores DRM data associated with a plurality of digital files, the DRM data including a plurality of DRM identifiers. A packet monitoring module receives the plurality of DRM identifiers from the node data module, that receives packets containing incoming content and compares the incoming content to the DRM identifier, and generates event data when the incoming content matches at least one of the DRM identifiers. A node reporting module receives the event data, and generates node report data based on the event data.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for tracking of digital assets within a system through the use of digital serial numbers. Systems equipped with the present invention can uniquely identify copies of assets within it. Assets that originate within the system can be uniquely identified even outside the system. Their transaction history within the system can be traced by looking up the transaction history associated with an assets' serial number. The serial number applied to an asset is unique to each transaction and applied at the time a copy is made. Database entries are created that link each unique serial number to aspects of the transaction. Each serial number references details about a particular transaction such as parties involved, date and time of copy, ownership, terms of use, and payment terms.

The device including receiving at least one of usage rights and meta-rights for the items; interpreting, via the usage rights, a manner of use for the items; and interpreting, via the meta-rights, a manner of rights transfer for the items. The usage rights or the meta-rights include at least one state variable that is shared by one or more rights.

Abstract: The present invention provides a microbilling system that integrates with existing billing systems and existing devices. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the devices store digital certificates with short-lived expiration dates and specifying transaction limits, preferably using a trust management system. A provisioning agent periodically (e.g., once a day) issues the certificates over a secure channel to the devices. When conducting a purchase transaction, the devices exchange certificates via a communication channel (that need not be secure) and the purchasing device issues a digitally signed electronic check which is periodically deposited over an advantageously secure channel with a clearing service. The present invention enables microbilling transactions by embedding liability in the certificates.

A user requests a mobile telephone charge management server (3000) to perform proxy settlement for goods purchased using mobile telephones 1 (4100), 2 (4200) and 3 (4300). The mobile telephone charge management server (3000) makes an inquiry to a registration server (3100) as to whether or not proxy settlement is possible. When proxy settlement is not possible, the mobile telephone performs settlement using electronic money that has been deposited therein.

Abstract: Systems and methods for the dynamic processing of royalties are disclosed. Sales records are processed on a transaction basis rather than in batch mode. This process also allows correction of information retroactively, rather than delaying the entire processing of the information. One embodiment includes a system comprising a message broker in communication with a plurality of clients and services, a state machine, a processor and a time manager. The message broker interacts with the processor to execute a common service based on events produced by the state machine. Another embodiment includes a method comprising providing a rate matrix, receiving a sales record from a database and calculating a royalty payment using the sales record and the rate matrix.

Abstract: A method for securing licensing agreements on newly developed products, which have been submitted to a host company, includes a plurality of steps that grants a third party company an opportunity to evaluate the product while absorbing minimal financial loss and, therefore, increasing the likelihood of successfully licensing the product on a long-term basis. After receiving an inquiry from the third party company, the host company provides a short-term licensing agreement with a development bonus to the third party company. After conducting due diligence and evaluating the product, the third party receives a long-term exclusive licensing agreement. Such a short-term and the long-term exclusive licensing agreements are executed by at least the inventor, the third party company and the host company.

Abstract: Subscriptions to stored data for different computer systems and mobile devices are generated based on distribution criteria and application data to control what portions of particular types of data should go to a particular computer system or mobile computing device, each of which may be identified as a data site. The particular type of data may include a business object type or a publication in a publish-and-subscribe model of data replication. The distribution criteria may include an attribute of the type of data to be distributed, or may be based on a relationship of data with an employee that uses a data site or on a responsibility of an employee that uses a data site. The distribution criteria also may include a query executable against portions of the application data or other types of complex processing logic.
