Abstract: A user device uses, instead of agreement information, only second session information contained in the agreement information, to generate an electronic signature for information containing the session information and information indicating an abort request, and outputs abort request information containing the session information, the information indicating the abort request, and the electronic signature, whereby transmission/reception can be performed without unnecessary information. Similarly, it may be configured to use only the second session information to generate an electronic signature for information containing the session information and information indicating a commitment request, and to output commitment request information containing the electronic signature. Since a third-party device defines a third session state as abort in correspondence to the second session information, it is able to manage states while appropriately discriminating a plurality of concurrent electronic value exchanges.
Abstract: A mechanism for switching between multiple copies of a software program on a computer system is provided. The mechanism includes detecting a plurality of copies of the software program on a computer system, receiving input selecting one of the detected plurality of copies of the software program to be a default copy, and determining whether the selected copy of the software program is a current default copy on the computer system. If the selected copy of the software program is not the current default copy on the computer system then, the mechanism further includes demoting the current default copy to be an alternate copy, and promoting the selected copy of the software program to be a next current default copy.

Abstract: A system and method for tracking purchases in a location-based services system is disclosed wherein a request for information on a particular product is received from a consumer using a remote terminal. A geographically tailored response to the request is then generated with the location-based services system. At least one offer is then displayed to the consumer based on the geographically tailored response. An acceptance of a respective offer made by the consumer is then processed by the location-based services system and information is stored about the transaction in a usage data file or database.

Abstract: A method is provided to authorize an online transaction between a purchaser and a merchant. The method includes providing, via an identity provider, verification of an identity of the purchaser. The method also includes providing, via a payment provider, verification of an ability of the purchaser to pay for the transaction, where the identity provider and the payment provider are different network entities. A computer system is also provided that can conduct an online transaction between a purchaser and a merchant providing one or more goods and/or services. The computer system includes a first node configured to provide verification of an identity of the purchaser, and a second node configured to provide verification of an ability of the purchaser to pay for the transaction, where the first node and the second node are associated with different network entities.
Abstract: EBPP systems and processes which employ a common document model/data model to accommodate the interests and preferences of billers, customers, financial institutions, other EBPP organizations and others in the context of EBPP specifically and electronic commerce more generally. The common document model/data model allows the biller to outsource billing activities to the EBPP organization while retaining control over the billing information or how or where bills will be presented. Billers are incentivized to use the system because they avoid the expense and effort of building a customized system in house, but get the same advantages of an in house system while leveraging the expertise of an outside EBPP organization who operates across a range of industries, customers, geographical locations and financial fields. The systems also allow billers enhanced opportunities to build brand and customer relationships not offered in paper-based billing systems.
Abstract: The invention is a system and method of managing equipment. The system incorporates a tagging device to attach identification tags to each piece of equipment. A scanning device is used to read the identification tags and relay this information to an equipment server. An input device is used to input information to the equipment server. The equipment server runs the equipment management program. The system flags a potential asset assigned to an asset creating individual. Equipment is designated an asset after use in an asset creating event.

Abstract: A method and system to conduct financial transactions over a communication network is provided. Data associated with a mobile communication device user is received and stored, and a user mobile airtime account is allocated to the user. A purchase request is received from the user via a mobile communication device, the purchase request being for a purchase from a merchant for a purchase amount. The communication network provides the user access to the network to make the purchase request without debiting a financial account of the user or the user mobile airtime account for the access to the communication network. A payment service provider now automatically debits the financial account of the user with the purchase amount, automatically allocates a service fee which is associated with the purchase amount to the mobile service provider and credits an account of the mobile service provider with the service fee.
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for processing secure transactions. An electromagnetic transmission packet is received from a portable device at a processing device. The electromagnetic transmission packet includes an encrypted magnetic-stripe image and an encrypted version of an alphanumerical identifier. A keyed nonencrypted version of the alphanumerical identifier is received at the processing device, and the encrypted version of the alphanumerical identifier is decrypted. The decryption of the encrypted version of the alphanumerical identifier is compared with the nonencrypted version of the alphanumerical identifier. Thereafter, a decryption of the encrypted magnetic-stripe image is transmitted to a host system for processing the secure transaction using an account identified by the decryption of the magnetic-stripe image.
Abstract: In a storage system, a judgment is made as to whether respective programs installed in storage regions assigned to a plurality of channel control portions exchanging data input/output requests based on designated filenames with information processors connected to the storage system through a network are licensed or not. When a decision is made that the respective programs are licensed, the programs installed in the channel control portions in the storage system are managed to be controlled to be enabled to be used.

Abstract: According to the present invention, there is provided an electronic document processing system and method including an electronic document generation mechanism, an encrypted digital certificate generator, a tool for coordinating the processing of electronic documents, a packaging mechanism for finalizing and authenticating electronic documents, a tracking log for recording relevant electronic document information, and a transferring protocol for transferring the ownership of electronic documents. The present invention also provides an electronic authentication system including an electronic document authentication watermark seal or signature line for confirming a document's signing within the view.
Abstract: Digital receipts for electronic data and computer-implemented methods and systems for creating such digital receipts involve, for example, generating a visual representation of the electronic data in a pre-defined format that visually represents the data without requiring that the represented data be embedded in the format, computing a mathematical representation of the electronic data and associating the mathematical representation of the electronic data with the visual representation of the electronic data, and receiving a user's digital signature on the associated visual and mathematical representations of the electronic data to evidence the user's approval of the represented electronic data.
Abstract: Unique encoding of each of a substantial number of distribution video copies of a program such as a motion picture is produced by altering the images slightly at several pre-selected locations in the program in a uniquely coded pattern. Suspected counterfeits can be compared with an unaltered master video to determine the encoded number for the copy which was counterfeited to enable tracking the source of the counterfeit. Preferably, each frame of several whole scenes is altered at each location by shifting an image so as to make the alterations largely undetectable by counterfeiters but easily detected by comparison with an unaltered master video. Artifacts are inserted in patterns representing a unique number for the program. These supplement the encoding by alteration of images and gives added means to aid in tracing counterfeit copies.
Abstract: A method for a customer to anonymously purchase goods or services from an on-line merchant, including the steps of depositing currency in the form of cash with a depository, the depository issuing to the customer one or more randomly-generated serial numbers, the customer submitting at least one serial number to the on-line merchant and the depository transferring an amount of said currency corresponding to said at least one serial number to an account of said on-line merchant. Since the customer uses cash for payment and the serial numbers are randomly-generated, the customer's identity remains anonymous.
Abstract: A system and method for validating an identity of a user to enable or prevent an occurrence of an event is disclosed. In one embodiment, the system includes a first device including a wireless transmitter which is configured to transmit validation information, a second device including a wireless receiver configured to receive the validation information and to further transmit the validation information, and a secure system in communication with the second device. The secure system includes a database configured to receive the validation information transmitted from the second device, and to transmit additional information to the second device following a receipt of the validation information to assist the second device in either enabling or preventing the occurrence of the event.
Abstract: A method and system for controlling access to a plurality of secure computer networks using a secure registry system is disclosed. The secure registry system includes a database containing selected data of a plurality of users each authorized to access at least one of the plurality of secure computer networks. The method and system facilitate receiving authentication information from an entity at a secure computer network, communicating the authentication information to the secure registry system, validating the authentication information at the secure registry system, receiving from the secure registry system an indication of whether the entity is authorized to access the secure computer network, and granting the entity access to the secure computer network when the authentication information of the entity corresponds to one of the plurality of users.
Abstract: A system and method are provided for synchronizing playback of media content on multiple playback devices utilizing Digital Rights Management (DRM) encoding. In general, multiple playback devices or users of those playback devices are associated to form a virtual group. A virtual group (VG) control function operates to synchronize advertisement (ad) slots within media content provided to the playback devices in the virtual group utilizing DRM encoding.

Abstract: A transportable recording medium includes an area for storing encrypted cookie information. The same cookie information is thus easy to use in different terminals and the cookie information becomes unique to respective users instead of respective terminals. A Web site reads the encrypted cookie information, decrypts the encrypted cookie information using a secret key stored in the Web site, customizes a requested service according to the decrypted cookie information, and provides the customized service to a terminal. If the Web site stores non-encrypted user information, the recording medium stores a media identification. The Web site stores the user information so that the user information of the user assigned to the recording medium is searched for according to the media identification. The Web site reads the media identification from the recording medium, searches for user information corresponding to the media identification, and customizes a requested service according to the user information.
