Patent number: 9880253Abstract: An object detection system is configured to detect location of an object proximate a first surface of a vehicle. A beacon is configured to be positioned and repositioned relative to the vehicle. A controller is configured to process data from the object detection system and position data from the beacon. The controller is configured to define a first zone of interest relative to the first surface of the vehicle body structure without the beacon and further process object location data from the object detection system and output the object location data to the display relative to the first zone of interest. The controller determines current location of the beacon relative to the first surface of the vehicle body structure, defines a second zone of interest relative to the beacon and outputs the object location data to a display relative to the second zone of interest.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2014Date of Patent: January 30, 2018Assignee: Nissan North America, Inc.Inventor: Adrian Tan

Patent number: 9787950Abstract: A fuel authorization system enables data to be exchanged between vehicles and a fuel vendor, to verify that the vehicle is authorized to receive fuel. Each fuel island is equipped with a camera and a short range radio (RF) component. Participating vehicles are equipped with fuel authorization component including an IR transmitter and a RF component that can establish a data link with the fuel island's RF unit. When the camera senses a vehicle in the fuel lane, an RF query is sent to the vehicle. Participating vehicles respond with an IR transmission. An RF data link is then established between the enrolled vehicle and the fuel vendor to verify that the vehicle is authorized to receive fuel. Once the verification is complete, the fuel dispenser is enabled. In some embodiments, the IR data link is not required, as the camera can distinguish between multiple fuel lanes.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2014Date of Patent: October 10, 2017Assignee: ZONAR SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Michael Charles King, Rick Fadler, Charles Michael McQuade

Patent number: 9630568Abstract: A camera system for acquiring a stereo image of the surroundings of a motor vehicle having two cameras and a control device, the camera system being arranged on the inside of a motor vehicle window and the two cameras looking outward through the motor vehicle window in order to observe the surroundings. Each of the two cameras has a camera-specific camera viewing cone which forms a penetrating cut surface with the window surface. In order to delimit the installation space of the camera system, the camera viewing cone of each camera is delimited by cropping the penetrating cut surface, the cropping of the two penetrating cut surfaces being performed symmetrically relative to the vertical plane of symmetry of the two cameras. The erroneous formation in the image of one camera viewing cone is compensated in the control device by the image information of the other camera viewing cone.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2013Date of Patent: April 25, 2017Assignee: Volkswagen AGInventors: Thorsten Kuhn, Alexander Kirchner, Reiner Katzwinkel
