Abstract: Methods and systems for supplying media over communication networks are described. In one embodiment, a media supplier determines whether a media object hosted on a web server will be supplied to a client by streaming or not by streaming. Preferably, if the determination is to stream, the media supplier streams the media object to the client. In some cases, the same media supplier may be capable of supplying clients with media objects hosted on any of at least two web servers.

Abstract: Disclosed is a surveillance image retrieval apparatus capable of generating an image representing a search result that a surveillant can visually confirm, even if a face image used is not suitable for the visual identification of a person.

Abstract: A system and method for providing multi-services within a communication network according to various exemplary embodiments can include storing, in a database of a computer, user-defined sets of rules and instructions for providing multi-services to end user devices connected to a communication network comprising a Hybrid Fiber-Wireless (HFW) network having policy management capabilities. The system and method can receive, at one or more processors, the user-defined sets of rules and instructions from a plurality of end users via a plurality of end user devices. The system and method can configure a virtual network for each end user within the communication network using the policy management capabilities based on the user-defined sets of rules and instructions provided by each end user. The user-defined sets of rules and instructions define provisioning and delivery of resources and services provided by the communication network to the end user.

Abstract: A system includes multiple KVM switches, multiple user consoles and a recording system connected via a network. Each KVM switch facilitates interactions between user consoles and selected servers connected its server ports. The KVM switch transmits keyboard, mouse and video data exchanged between user consoles and servers, and administrative data, to the recording system. The recording system records the keyboard, mouse, video and administrative data, and detects trigger events based on such data. Trigger events include predefined keywords, mouse operations, video images, user IDs and server IDs, or combinations thereof. When a trigger event is detected, the recording system automatically transmits monitoring information to an administrative console via the network. The monitoring information may include combined video data containing information about keyboard and mouse actions superimposed on desktop images. The administrative console may also request specific recorded data for review.

Abstract: Systems and methods for creating and employing software to handle the playback of media, especially video, in browsers that, in addition to or instead of playing the media in the browser, may use second display protocols to instruct a separate display device to play the media. In one implementation, the software may be in the form of a web or other application. In particular, systems and methods are provided that describe ways to clean up bad assets from favorites or recently-viewed lists. In one implementation, systems and methods are provided that use an erroneous asset report from one user to fix other users' associated lists. In another implementation, the systems and methods employ data about defunct services, both local and global, to remove assets from those services from one or more user lists.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include a camera having two modes: a visible light imaging mode (day-mode) and an IR imaging mode (night-mode). In the visible light imaging mode, an IR filter is in line with the lens assembly. In the IR imaging mode, the IR filter is mechanically removed, and IR light is allowed to pass to the sensor. In one embodiment, in the IR imaging mode, IR lighting is provided by an IR LEDs on the camera to illuminate the scene. In one embodiment, the various components are chosen, balanced and optimized so that images captured using visible light and images captured using non-visible light are both in focus. In one embodiment, an algorithm determines when there sufficient visible light is present and when it is not, and thus determines when to switch the camera from one mode to another.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods relating to persistent network resource and virtual area associations for realtime collaboration include managing and displaying an object associated with a virtual area that supports establishment of respective presences of communicants operating respective client network nodes. Examples of the object include an object that has one or more user-modifiable property fields and an object that is associated with screen sharing functionality of the client network node.

Abstract: Techniques are provided herein for a device in a network to receive information configured to indicate a control plane traffic load level for one or more server devices that are configured to manage traffic for messaging and presence clients communicating via a messaging and presence protocol. The control plane traffic is associated with the messaging and presence protocol. A determination is made as to when the control plane traffic load level has become unbalanced among the two or more server devices and in response to determining that the control plane traffic load level has become unbalanced, sending a transfer message to one or more clients comprising information configured to initiate migration of one or more clients from a server device that is relatively overloaded to a server device that is relatively underloaded in order to balance the control plane traffic load level among the two or more server devices.

Abstract: In addition to the clear advantages of video monitoring systems for securing monitoring regions and optionally for following suspicious objects, there is the requirement to secure the private environments of people in the regions being monitored. A masking module (4) for a monitoring system (1) is disclosed for the above, wherein the monitoring system (1) has at least one monitoring camera (2) designed and/or arranged for observing monitoring regions with moving objects (14, 16), comprising a selection device for selecting objects as selected objects (16), wherein the masking module (4) is designed to output the selected objects (16) or partial regions thereof subsequently together called selected objects (16) in a masked form, wherein the masking module (4) is designed to limit the masking of objects (16) to at least one selected physical partial region (15, 18) of the monitoring region.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and products notify users when changes in a communication network improve quality of service. When a service provider changes a configuration parameter in the communications network, a change to the configuration parameter is compared to a rule. When the change to the configuration parameter results in a perceivable improvement in quality of service, a notification is sent to a user's device. The notification informs the user's device of the improvement in quality of service caused by the change to the configuration parameter.

Abstract: A system, apparatus and method for executing a software program on a plurality of computing devices are disclosed. A first computing device executes a software program and displays data related to that program. A second computing device displays data related to the program and to location data regarding a physical location of the second computing device related to the first computing device. Display data can be updated based on changes in relative position and/or changes made on one of the devices.

Abstract: An application manager may distribute applications from trusted servers to end-user devices. The end-user devices, such as mobile devices managed by the application manager, may include devices having different platforms. An application manager may determine whether one or more application servers are trusted servers before determining whether applications may be provided from the application servers. Both internal servers and certain external servers may be trusted application servers when particular criteria are satisfied. An application manager may also manage application licenses for one or more end-user devices.

Abstract: Media rich content server systems and methods are operable to provide access to supplemental media rich content at a portable media device. An exemplary embodiment communicatively couples a portable media device to a media device that initially receives a media content stream comprising at least one supplemental media rich content trigger, wherein the supplemental media rich content trigger includes access information configured to access at least one media rich content server; receives a portion of the media content stream with the supplemental media rich content trigger at the portable media device; establishes a communication link between the portable media device and the media rich content server based upon the access information in the received supplemental media rich content trigger; receives supplemental media rich content from the media rich content server; and presents at least the received supplemental media rich content on a display of the portable media device.

A method may comprise defining, via at least one of a client electronic device and a server computer, a marked-read characteristic corresponding to an email. The method may further comprise determining, via at least one of the client electronic device and the server computer, a marked-read preview time based upon, at least in part, the marked-read characteristic. The method may also comprise designating, via at least one of the client electronic device and the server computer, the email as read based upon, at least in part, the marked-read preview time.

Abstract: A method of providing content information using a wireless communication device and a navigation device of performing the method are disclosed. The navigation device may comprise a terminal searching unit that searches a wireless communication terminal that may perform near field wireless communication in response to a content information providing request, a terminal authenticating unit that performs terminal authentication on whether the searched wireless communication terminal has been subscribing for a content providing service, and a content information displaying unit that, if it is identified that the wireless communication terminal is a terminal subscribing for the content providing service, receives content information from the wireless communication terminal and displays the content information on a display.

Abstract: A vehicle including a scanning imaging system includes a vehicle body having an outer surface, a propulsion source, and an optical window secured to the outer surface of the vehicle positioned on an optical axis for transmitting electromagnetic radiation received from a portion of an area of interest to the scanning imaging system. The scanning imaging system includes a first achromatic prism pair having prisms with different materials that have different refractive properties, and a second achromatic prism pair having prisms with different materials that have different refractive properties, both positioned on the optical axis. A camera fixed in location is optically coupled to form images from the electromagnetic radiation after being bent by the achromatic prism pairs. A motor including a controller independently rotates the first and second achromatic prism pairs about the optical axis for scanning within the area of interest.

Abstract: A method for downloading software from a host device to an electronic device through a communication line, which, even when the download is interrupted, can simplify the procedure to restart the download while maintaining security. In the method, a certificate of authenticity data, which the card reader has obtained from the HOST computer, is stored in the non volatile memory. The download of the software from the HOST computer to the card reader is executed. The verification of authenticity data is obtained by calculation with respect to the downloaded software. This verification of authenticity data is then compared with the certificate of authenticity data obtained from the HOST computer, and the downloaded software is run when the certificate of authenticity data matches the verification of authenticity data.
