Patent number: 4629377Abstract: A gear cutter assembly incorporating a toothed flexible disk which acts as the cutting element, mounted between a cutter back and a disk retainer. The cutter back includes a convex, conical mounting face, and the disk retainer has a complementary mounting surface, so that the disk is clamped between these surface and deflected to create a negative rake angle. The disk is formed with teeth which protrude beyond the cutter back and retainer, and it has a constant cross-section throughout its width. When the cutting edges of the disk teeth become dull, the disk may be inverted and reused due to its untapered profile; after such reuse, the disk is discarded. The cutter disk is easily fabricated in groups, and enjoys economical, high performance operation.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1985Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: Fellows CorporationInventors: Erich Tlaker, Aaron Erisman, Donald Whitney

Patent number: 4629445Abstract: A case making machine is provided with an apparatus for folding rear portion of a feeding case blank and the apparatus comprises a claw mechanism for folding the rear portion of the case blank along the folding line. The claw mechanism is rotated at an angular speed which is changed by a cam mechanism operated by a driving source through a drive shaft and a link mechanism. An electromagnetic valve is further provided for controlling the operation of the claw mechanism. The valve is actuated by an electric circuit such that the electromagnetic valve can be operated in synchrony with the advancing speed of the blank. This result is achieved by increasing pulse numbers inputted into the circuit to account for the rise time interval of the electromagnetic valve.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1984Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: Tanabe Machinery Co., Ltd.Inventor: Daigoro Toriyama

Patent number: 4628779Abstract: In order to increase the product of the speed of rotation times the diameter of the bar stock, the inventive feed apparatus comprises, for guiding the bar stock, a plurality of bearing units constituting the non-rotary part of a hydrostatic bearing receiving oil under pressure. For introducing a fresh piece of bar stock, two rotary components of the bearing unit are capable of opening. A central passage may be either entirely closed and locked, a lever then being completely pushed back, or set ajar, for each bearing unit in sequence, so as to allow the carrier of a pusher to pass, or wide open to allow the fresh bar stock to enter, the mentioned lever then being completely pulled. The feed apparatus is particularly suitable for a computerized numerical control (CNC) automatic lathe.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1985Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: Societe de Vente et de Fabrication pour le Decolletage Lns SAInventor: Alexandre Ed. Patent number: 4629373Abstract: A polycrystalline diamond body with a plurality of faces having enhanced surface irregularities over at least a portion of at least one of the faces is disclosed. The polycrystalline diamond body with the enhanced surface irregularities attaches to other materials such as metal by conventional mounting techniques. The polycrystalline diamond bodies of this invention are without a carbide or metal backing. The pattern forming the enhanced surface irregularities of this invention can be predetermined or random. Similarly the pattern can be randomly distributed on the surface or positioned in a repeatable pattern. It is therefore not necessary that the surface irregularities be uniform in either shape or size. One method of forming the enhanced irregularities is during the press cycle during which the polycrystalline diamond is formed with screens, molds, or free standing bodies.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1983Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: Megadiamond Industries, Inc.Inventor: David R. Patent number: 4627260Abstract: A roll stand has a support frame, a pair of similar small-diameter working rolls rotatable about respective vertically spaced axes and defining a workpiece nip receiving a workpiece to be rolled, and a pair of similar large-diameter backup rolls rotatable about respective axes vertically flanking the working-roll axes and each bearing vertically on the respective working roll. These working rolls have ends and each have therebetween an effective axial length equal to at least 1.3 times the effective axial length of the respective backup rolls. Actuators are connected to the working rolls for displacing same axially relative to the backup rolls through an axial distance equal to about their own effective axial lengths between end positions each engaging only about half of the respective backup roll. A selector feeds to and through the stand a group of strips comprised generally of pairs of strips wherein the combined width of the strips of each pair is generally equal to the working-roll width.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1984Date of Patent: December 9, 1986Assignee: SMS Sloemann Siegmag AGInventor: Willi Benz

Patent number: 4627261Abstract: A roll stand comprises a plurality of axially shiftable working rolls, each attached by supporting members axially slidably to a guide member which is movable vertically adjustably against the side of a cylinder block installed in the roll stand housing. Axially shifting hydraulic cylinders are provided to axially shift the working rolls by acting on the guide pieces. In particular a plurality of balancing hydraulic cylinders are installed in laterally projecting shoulders in the cylinder blocks behind each other in the axial shifting direction of the rolls and act on the working rolls to provide balancing and bending forces. In order to install only cylinder blocks of reduced size, the balancing hydraulic cylinders operating downwardly and the balancing hydraulic cylinders taken individually along the axial shifting direction project alternately downward and upward from the shoulder of the cylinder block associated with them and act on the guide pieces on which the working rolls are mounted.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1985Date of Patent: December 9, 1986Assignee: SMS Schloemann-Siemag AGInventor: Gunter Schiller

Patent number: 4627262Abstract: A device for rapidly increasing the roll nip in an apparatus comprising a pair of rolls such as a calender for plastics material or rubber or a rolling mill is disclosed. The device engages with spindles which are normally present in such apparatuses for ensuring parallel adjustment of the roll nip. The device comprises an auxiliary drive in the form of hydraulic cylinders or the like which activate lever arms connected to a disc member. The disc-shaped member meshes with the spindle. The spindle also carries an external screw-thread which threadedly engages with a spur wheel. On rotation of the disc member, the spindles move up the thread on the spur wheel. Since the spindles are connected to bearing blocks for one of the rolls, the rolls execute an axial, lifting movement and, in consequence, the roll nip is rapidly increased.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1984Date of Patent: December 9, 1986Assignee: Hermann Berstorff Maschinenbau GmbHInventor: Heinrich Todter
