Abstract: A hair curling device including an elongated cylindrical body having first and second ends, and first and second flange members being affixed to the first and second ends respectively. Each of the flange members includes a plurality of bores disposed in a peripheral surface thereof and are parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body. The bores of the first flange member are disposed coaxially with the bores of the second flange member, and each bore extends uniformly from an outer periphery of the flange members to an outer peripheral surface of the body. Each bore has an opening at an outer peripheral surface of the flange members, and an inside width of the opening is smaller than the diameter of the bores.

Abstract: For the purpose of mobility a pair of wing shape stencils is connected by a nut and screw passing through the elongated slots which allows the stencils to move horizontally and vertically. This procedure allows the adjustment of horizontal distance and an angle of the eyebrow cut-outs simultaneously. When the two stencils are connected the V- shapes formed thereby, provide centering guides. The stencil may have one or more eyebrow cut-outs generally in the middle area with a additional eyebrow line at the upper edge and an eyeline shadow guide at the lower edge. The stencils are supported by stretchable head bands and clips which are secured around the head during the application.

Abstract: The fingernail polish protector of the invention has a finger-encircling piece, elongated pieces extending in parallel from opposing sides of the finger-encircling piece, an upper piece hinged to one of the elongated pieces and latchable to the other elongated piece, and at least one lower finger-retaining portion extending downward between said finger encircling piece and the distal end of said elongated piece. The fingernail polish protector may also include an upper finger-retaining portion extending upward from an elongated piece. The protector may be attached to open ends of the fingers of a glove.

Abstract: Treatment of human or animal hair for purposes of waving, straightening or softening using compositions containing thioglycolic acid compounds commonly leave an undesirable odor due to the presence of residual trace amounts of the thio compound. The compositions of the present invention contain siliceous crystalline molecular sieves either as the sole active ingredient or in combination with hair conditioners. When applied to hair containing conventional, acid or soft wave hair perming solutions, the molecular sieve constituent effectively adsorbs and holds the residual odor-causing thioglycolic acid compound so that its odor is reduced to below its olfactory detection level threshold.

Abstract: An integrally formed dental floss and leader which lends itseld to oral prophylaxis especially for implants and bridges. The floss is captured by the leader through a hinged door which swings from an open to a closed position during fabrication to provide an integral unit for use by a floss user.

Abstract: A hair kit for beautifying and forming any hair texture is provided. The kit contains a hair treatment concentrate and a hair setting mousse. The hair treatment concentrate contains aged or unaged glyoxal, urea or thiourea, an inert carrier (e.g., water and/or a lower alkanol), and other ingredients. The hair setting mousse contains the concentrate described above, an alcohol, a foaming agent, and a propellant. With thin, fine, or curly hair, the concentrate is applied to the hair roots of the shampooed, rinsed, and towel-dried hair and then the mousse is applied to the hair shaft before the hair is groomed and dried. With thick, coarse, or damaged hair, the mousse is applied first to the shampooed, rinsed, and towel-dried hair, and the concentrate is then applied sparingly to the roots before or after grooming and drying the hair.

Abstract: A barrette comprises an elongate, arched holder made from a plastic strip and an elongate, arched metal clip member. The holder has embossed end portions which are folded against the concave side of the holder and held in place by clamping tabs extending from the longitudinal edges thereon, with each folded end portion having a raised embossment defining a receiving cavity with an L shaped entrance slit around a periphery thereon. Opposing end portions of the clip member are inserted laterally into corresponding cavities on the holder and retained therein by cooperating snap appendages and engagement surfaces including a protruding catch on each end portion of the clip member which engages a rectangular aperture on a corresponding raised embossment. Further securement is provided by an inclined catch on the inner terminal edge of each folded end portion which snap engages a corresponding aperture on the clip member.

Abstract: An eyelash shield device is provided having curvatures at each end of an elongated member. The invention also includes a process for using a makeup device to apply makeup to eyelash. The curved ends are applied above and below the eye, between the face and eyelashes of the user so as to protect the face from smudging eyelash makeup on the face or from disturbing pre-applied makeup to the user's face while applying mascara to the eyelashes. An alternative embodiment of the eyelash shield device has a clip for attaching the shield to a mascara case and includes first and second members pivotally connected to each other. The first functions as a shield between the user's face and eyelashes and has a curved edge conforming to the curvature of the periphery of the user's eye. The second member is pivotally attached to the first member and connected to a clip device for attachment to a mascara case.

Abstract: A hand-held hair grooming device comprising a housing adapted to be held in the hand of the user, an array of electrically conductive tines extending outwardly from the housing, apparatus for mounting the tines in the housing, and apparatus for applying an electric potential between adjacent tines whereby lice or other pests suitably disposed between adjacent tines are electrocuted.

Abstract: A laryngoscope handle forming part of an overall laryngoscope is disclosed herein having a hollow, elongated hand gripping portion designed to contain an electrical power supply, specifically batteries, within its interior. The handle also includes a blade connecting head portion disengagably connected to one end of the hand gripping portion and a number of passageways for accommodating a light source and electrical contacts which are necessary in the operation of the overall laryngoscope. The elongated hand gripping portion itself is sealed sufficient to prevent water from reaching its interior and damaging the power supply therein. One way of forming part of this seal is a particular arrangement including a printed circuit board for sealing the entire lower end of the blade connecting head portion including its multiple passageways so as to prevent any water entering the passageways from reaching the power supply containing the interior of the hand gripping portion.

Abstract: The present invention provides an improved intravenous catheter which can be installed at a minimal diameter and expanded once installed to a full operational diameter. The apparatus of the present invention comprises a first catheter tube member with an expandable sidewall and a wider second member which inserts into the first member once the first member is installed in a vein to cause it to expand to an operational diameter. The apparatus and method of the present invention provide many options to medical personnel and are particularly useful when employed in trauma situations.

Abstract: An implantable medication infusion pump is provided which utilizes an improved and simplified pressure reservoir to maintain a selected medication in liquid form within a pump housing under a substantially constant pressure. The pressure reservoir comprises a hollow structural enclosure having at least one flexible resilient wall and is adapted to be filled with a selected quantity of a pressure fluid, such as a selected fluorocarbon in a liquid-vapor state, prior to mounting of the reservoir as a structural unit into the infusion pump housing. Within the pump housing, the flexible reservoir wall defines one side of a medication chamber, with the pressure fluid undergoing appropriate change of state to expand or contract the reservoir in a manner maintaining the medication under a substantially constant pressure.

Abstract: A device for applying mascara and curling and brushing an eyelash includes a scissors mechanism having a first handle with an arm extending therefrom and a second handle having an arm extending therefrom, the two handles being pivotally connected together. Each arm of the scissors mechanism includes a brushlike element which is adapted to retain an amount of mascara for application to the eyelid and is also capable of curling the eyelash when the eyelash is placed between the two brushlike elements and the brushlike elements are brought in contact with one another.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of filing a synthetic nail comprising rubbing the nail with a unique device that captures dust produced by filing. The device includes an elongated, rigid, support member having a generally flat, planar support surface. A foam strip is attached to the planar surface of the rigid support member and it has a generally flat, planar, tacky support surface. An abrasive member is bonded to the planar support surface of the foam strip comprising a crisscrossed arrangement of spaced apart, thread-like filaments having gritty abrasive material embedded therein. The crisscross arrangement of filaments forms a plurality of cavities open at the surface of the abrasive member to collect and hold therein nail dust produced upon rubbing the abrasive member against a nail.

Abstract: A headwear apparatus includes a butterfly chip comb assembly and an elongated, moisture absorbent headband. The comb assembly includes a pair of hingedly coupled combs with inwardly facing tines shiftable between open and closed positions and having a retainer for holding the combs in the closed position. The headband presents respective end regions having a plurality of transverse, tine receiving slots defined therein which allow adjustable length coupling of the end regions with the respective combs. In use, with the combs in the open position, the headband is placed about the user's head with a portion of the user's hair gathered between the combs; the combs are then shifted to the closed position which snugs the headband to hold it in place about the user's head and holds the user's hair in the gathered configuration.

Abstract: A device to shape human hair whereby possibly pre-moistened hair is wound up in strands on curlers onto which a liquid or consistent permanent waving product is applied and processed with heat energy added to the hair curlers for a predetermined time. The permanent reshaping product is then rinsed and possibly after an additional treatment with liquid neutralizer and rinsing of the same, the curlers will be removed from the hair. After winding of the hair strands and application of the permanent waving preparation, the curlers are heated by a short-time application of energy to a predetermined temperature. The heat stored by the curlers will then be transferred from the curlers to the hair curls treated with the permanent waving preparation.

Abstract: An oral hygiene device employs a hollow plastic tube sealed at both ends. At least one area along the length of the tube is weakened and has its diameter in the weakened area reduced, but not reduced to zero diameter. A length of fiber, such as conventional dental floss well known as a tooth cleaning material is stored within the length of the tube comprising the housing and has each of the free ends secured to a bulk of rigid material whose size does not permit the fibrous material from being able to escape the narrow diameter area. In use, a user bends the unbroken tubing housing to a point that the tubing breaks into at least two pieces, allowing the fibrous flossing material to be positioned intermediate the separated portions of the tubing, which are now free to act as handles. After its use, the fibrous material and the two handles may be discarded.

Abstract: A hair tying apparatus and method of use are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a needle with a shaft pointed at one end and having a head with an eye at the other, and a hair tie comprising at least one tie strand attached to an elastic loop. The method of use entails drawing the strand(s) through the elastic loop, thereby forming a hair tie loop, and subsequently through the eye of the needle, and then separating a top pony tail from the main pony tail of hair and drawing the top pony tail through the hair tie loop. The hair tie loop is then tightened around the base of the top pony tail, and the needle is used to draw the strand(s) around the top pony tail and a portion of the main pony tail along the length of the top pony tail, thereby holding the top pony tail in place relative to the main pony tail.

Abstract: A hair clamp structure is arranged for clamping a quantity of hair therewithin, wherein the clamp structure includes a plurality of pivotally mounted semi-cylindrical shells. The first shell includes a rib member projecting beyond a first shell second edge to be received within an inter-locking engagement with a second shell flange engaging beyond a second edge of the second shell. First edges of the first and second shells are of an interdigited construction including a hinge pin directed therethrough effecting pivotment of the first shell relative to the second shell. The upper and lower annular edges of each shell includes a semi-annular array of tooth members to enhance engagement of hair between the shells, with a lock pin to be received through openings of the shells' walls to effect locking and securement of the shells relative to a predetermined quantity of hair contained within the shells.
