Abstract: A hair pin is provided that maintains its position in the hair for an extended period of time. The hair pin is preferably used in connection with an inverted ponytail hairstyle. The multiple-prong hair pin includes at least one front prong and preferably two rear prongs. At least one prong includes two locking tabs. The elastic band used to create the ponytail is securably engaged between the front and rear prongs and between the upper and lower locking tabs thereby precluding vertical movement of the hair pin during use.

Abstract: A cosmetic liquid applicator having a tubular shaft, a rotary knob at a rear end of the shaft and a piston axially slidable in the shaft upon rotation of the rotary knob. A nib, mounting to a forward end of the tubular shaft, has a passage communicating with a liquid chamber. A plurality of radially extending pojections are provided so that they are gradually reduced in diameter in the forward direction. A discharge hole is communicated with the passage, and a slot extends forwardly and rearwardly from the discharge hole in opposite directions of and transverse to the projections.

Abstract: A cosmetic case constructed in the shape of a swan, the case including hinged elements for opening the left and right wings in an upward manner. Left and right upper layers can also be opened in this manner, and left and right middle layers can be opened, while the upper layers are opened, by a rod protruding from the underside of the upper layer.

Abstract: The process for bleaching hair using light includes first, applying a sufficient quantity of a composition containing at least one optical photosensitizer and a compound capable of providing a hydrogen radical to strands of the hair to be bleached and allowing the composition to act for up to 60 minutes on those strands; then, irradiating them with light of a wavelength or wavelengths selected from visible and ultraviolet wavelength ranges capable of activating the at least one optical photosensitizer and having an intensity sufficient for bleaching them, and subsequently rinsing and drying the bleached hair. This process does not require excess hydrogen peroxide and is thus particularly gentle to the hair.

Abstract: A dental floss container holder and floss dispenser having a housing with a front and back portion. A contoured resilient holding device made of closed or open cell foam or neoprene for retaining various shaped dental floss containers and spools. A retaining device may be affixed to the interior of the housing for releasably holding the floss containers within the housing. A guide directs floss from the retained container to the exterior of the housing. A cutter is positioned on the exterior of the housing. The housing may be wall mountable.

Abstract: By providing a composition for use with a conventional keratin reducing agent which comprises at least one mono or dimercaptopolyoxyethylene compound, a substantially improved and enhanced permanent wave is attained which provides a substantially increased long-lasting and durable hair set retention, as well as enhanced hair conditioning, sheen and manageability. In the preferred embodiment, the composition of the present invention is employed either as a post treatment after the application of a conventional hair keratin reducing agent or as an additive in the conventional reducing formulation. Furthermore, the preferred mono or dimercaptopolyoxyethylene compound employed preferably comprises a molecular weight ranging between about 200 and 800.

Abstract: A hair appliance for directing a stream of warm air towards the hair includes an elongated barrel having an air inlet and an air outlet opposite to the air inlet. An electric heating device is provided inside the barrel between the air inlet and the air outlet. A reservoir is mounted adjacent to the air outlet of the barrel and contains a liquid, such as water or hair conditioning solution. The reservoir has a hole and a liquid-permeable member which is inserted in the hole and which extends into the barrel. A heat conducting member is connected to the electric heating device and is disposed adjacent to the liquid-permeable member in order to allow the liquid to evaporate and to be entrained in the air stream.

Abstract: The invention shows a comb for the formation of braids and similar hairstyles in professional hairdressing. One embodiment is a comb, having teeth of a spaced pattern common in the trade; extending out from the back of the comb, for a substantial distance along the back of the comb is a flat, flexible bar, spaced a distance from the comb. Preferably, the spacing is tapered, being narrower at the point of attachment of the bar to the comb. This forms a tapered space for holding a section of hair, and aids in retaining the section of hair by the comb, permitting a hairdresser to separate a section of hair into the space, and then allow the comb to hang free. In a second version of the comb, the flexible bar is in the form of a spring, a curved flexible bar fastened to one end of the comb, and extending in for form of a looped curve along the back to a pivot pin at the other end of the comb; the bar then is curved around the pin and extends back a distance along the comb to form the hair braid retention space.

Abstract: The brush (1) comprises a plurality of bristles (2) wedged in the turns of at least two spiral branches (3, 4) of metal wire forming the core (5) of the brush, the bristles being arranged substantially radially. The brush comprises bristles (2) made of a soft material having a Shore hardness of between 20 A and 40 D. Their diameter is sufficiently large to prevent them having too high a degree of suppleness.

Abstract: A toothpick has an elongated body portion having an upwardly extending ridge and a pair of angulated legs defining a longitudinal groove, a tooth gap traversing tip which is substantially flat relatively long and tapers to a point for substantially traversing the gap between adjacent teeth, and a tooth scraping tip which is substantially flat relatively short and tapers to a point for scraping adjacent tooth surfaces in an upward movement. The tips are substantially flexible perpendicular to the flat surfaces for adjusting to the curved surfaces which are encountered in the spaced between teeth. The tips are highly effective in removing food debris from the gap between tooth surfaces yet can be produced at relatively low cost from plastic.

Abstract: A comb for separating strands of hair to implement and facilitate highlighting, streaking or frosting is described. The comb comprises first and second rows of teeth which project angularly from a handle portion. The teeth in the first row are spaced to initially part and separate strands of hair during combing. The teeth in the second row are adjacent to the first row or teeth but in staggered relation thereto. The teeth in the second row are also shorter in length than the first row of teeth and tapered to provide a secondary partition and separation of strands confined between adjacent teeth of the first row. Each tooth in the second row is also formed with a hook that projects toward an adjacent tooth for engaging and separating alternate strands of hair from a grouping.

Abstract: A hairband construction, preferably for use in a ponytail hair style, is provided which is formed from an elongated material section and an elongated elastic section having a cross-section generally smaller than that of the material section. A pair of connectors are adapted to secure ends of the plastic section to regions adjacent to the ends of the material section. The connectors are flat plates, which may be secured to the material section with an adhesive. The connectors also have holes for the receipt of an end of the elastic section.

Abstract: A personal toothpick comprises a curved handle with a thin wire hollow form at each end, designed to enter the smallest space between teeth to extract impacted food particles in between teeth and gums. The handle is of a modified s-shaped configuration with thin wire forms extending outwardly therefrom at each extremity in a set shape and being mounted to the handle at their ends.

Abstract: A device and process for treatment of ingrowing nails or felons includes a thin flexible inert body of flat, substantially rectangular configuration. The body is folded at least once in a first configuration to define a dihedric angular body. In another preferred form, the device is folded twice to form a double walled construction. In the present treatment, a portion of the nail is first separated from the affected underlying epidermis area of the affected finger or toe. Next, the device is held with the fold thereof aligned with the released edge of the nail, and is inserted over the released edge of the nail. The nail is received between facing surfaces of the device, with the released nail edge extending inside the fold between the facing surfaces. The device is positioned such that the folded surfaces of the device overlap the affected area and the released nail edge is held away from the affected area.

Abstract: A wig-like cool cap wherein an artificial hair is implanted to an artificial scalp portion. The artificial hair is composed of carbon fiber or fine thread form comprising twisted plural carbon fibers, while the artificial scalp portion comprises a central network portion (1) and an outer surrounding membranous portion (2). The central network portion (1) is composed of carbon fiber or fine thread form comprising twisted plural carbon fibers and is constructed in a network. The outer surrounding membranous portion (2) is arranged at an outer circumference of the central network portion and has a plurality of micropores. Because carbon fiber has very large coefficient of thermal conductivity and is superior in heat-releasing characteristic, it can prevent stuffiness and sweat peculiar to conventional wigs. Further, because carbon fiber is superior in resistance against chemicals, hair care products, coloring reagent and the like can be freely used.

Abstract: A cosmetic case mirror assembly positioning device includes a mirror frame holder having two spaced lugs raised from one side of an elongate base plate fastened to the top cover of a cosmetic case on the inside, and a mirror frame having two lugs respectively pivoted to either lug on the mirror frame holder and two toothed supports respectively and releasably meshed with the toothed top edge of either lug on the mirror frame holder, and a mirror inserted into a channel on the mirror frame and locked in place by latch pins.

Abstract: An infuser with a balloon for continuously infusing a drug in liquid form comprises a tubular main body (1) having in axial alignment, a first portion (12) at a first end of the tubular main body, a second portion (13) at a second end of the tubular main body opposite the first end, a control portion (3) intermediate the two ends, and a balloon coaxial with the first portion (12). The first portion (12) has a check valve (121) which allows the drug to be infused therefrom into the infuser which is at the first end of the tubular main body (1) and has a flow path (11) for the drug. The second portion (13) allows the drug to be injected therefrom at the second end of the tubular main body (1). The control portion (3) for controlling outflow of the drug is provided in such a manner as to be adjacent to the second portion (13) allowing the drug to be injected therefrom. A plurality of holes (111) are formed in the tubular main body in such a manner as to extend through a wall thereof.

Abstract: The curler has a generally cylindrical body provided with a rib that winds helically from one end to the opposite end of the body to define a recessed guide channel within which a gathered strand of hair is received when the curler is placed in use. An elastic retaining band stretches from one end of the curler across and against the outermost ridges of the adjacent convolutions of the rib so as to trap the hair strand within the recessed guide channel so as to prevent damaging pressure contact between the retaining band and the strand. In order to apply the curler to the hair strand, the strand is initially pulled generally taut and is wrapped for at least one full convolution onto a rib-free, smooth portion adjacent one end of the curler so as to overlap the free outer end of the strand and keep it from coming loose after the strand has been fully applied to the curler.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an adapter apparatus for medical endoscopes. The present invention comprises an apparatus for inserting tightly into a typical access port of a medical endoscope. Such adapter apparatus permits certain medical implements, such as optical fibers for laser surgery, to be inserted therethrough for treatment of the patient. This adapter apparatus also permits simultaneous passage therethrough of saline or other irrigation fluid without the prior removal of the medical implement. This permits rapid, simultaneous irrigation to proceed directly through an existing endoscope channel.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for supplying and using fabric fingernail wrap material wherein the material is a porous fabric material supplied in sheets having releasable adhesive material on one side, which side is adheres to a backing material and wherein shapes of individual fabric elements are cut through the fabric and into the backing material such that individually shaped fingernail fabric materials may be removed and applied as a final step in a process of applying a tip material to a portion of a fingernail, appropriately buffing and shaping, and applying the fabric wrap material with its self adhesive side against the nail and tip extension and finally applying appropriate polish or other finishing materials.
