  • Patent number: 9066257
Abstract: Some aspects of the present disclosure relate to a method for accurately detecting and measuring signals received from multiple cells surrounding a user equipment (UE) during a cell search. The method is performed by receiving a composite signal comprising an aggregate of transmissions (e.g., synchronization signals) from a plurality of base stations at a UE. A correlation-based metric describing a cell is generated by performing a cross-correlation of a transmission (e.g., synchronization signal, reference signal, etc.) from the cell with the received composite signal. The correlation-based metric of weaker cells may be modified to generate an equivalent ideal metric, also proportional to the search criteria, in which the impact of interfering signals is suppressed. By suppressing the impact of the interfering signals, the equivalent ideal metric can be used to identify a weaker target signal in light of the eclipsing, stronger signals.

  • Patent number: 9037133
Abstract: A message broadcast from a radio frequency transceiver of a cell of a mobile communication network is based on a profile of a proximity service offered to users of mobile devices within the cell coverage area. The message includes information about the proximity service for prompting the users to respond to receive further communication regarding the proximity service. A user operates a mobile device to respond indicating a request to receive further communication regarding the proximity service. In some examples, upon receiving the response, an application server coupled to the network transmits service content as part providing the proximity service to the user. In other examples, if the service profile and a user profile are compatible so as to allow the direct communication, the application server sends instructions to enable direct communication between the mobile device and a proximity service server of the proximity service provider.

  • Patent number: 9002395
Abstract: Text, voice, and video messaging techniques and social networks are enhanced with geolocation and permissions information. Basic messaging has a publisher publishing a message and subscribers receiving the message. Permissions can limit the publisher to publishing only into certain geographic zones. Recipients within a zone receive the message and other people or devices do not. Recipients can choose to subscribe to additional geographic zones to thereby receive messages directed into that zone. Publisher and subscriber zones do not need to cover the same geographic areas. Zones can be predefined or can be dynamically created, perhaps on a per message basis.

  • Patent number: 9002359
Abstract: A mobile station measures a pseudonoise (PN) offset and a signal strength of a spread spectrum signal transmitted by a given sector of a spread spectrum communication system. The measured PN offset differs from a nominal PN offset of the given sector. The mobile station transmits a measurement message that includes the measured PN offset and the measured signal strength. The spread spectrum communication system receives the measurement message and determines a location associated with the mobile station (e.g., based on location coordinates included in the measurement message). The spread spectrum communication system determines the nominal PN offset of the given sector based on the measured PN offset and the location associated with the mobile station. If the given sector is a valid handoff destination, the spread spectrum communication system transmits to the mobile station a handoff instruction that identifies the given sector by the measured PN offset.

  • Patent number: 8995965
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention provide a method and system of registering a phone device on a synthetic communication network. One implementation receives a request to connect the phone device to a synthetic communication network that transmits messages over a data network using one or more phone numbers from a voice network. Aspects of the present invention initially obtain a phone number and a corresponding country code presumed associated with the phone device to be used for communications over the synthetic communication network. Based on the country code, the phone number is normalized to a standard format that distinguishes the resulting normalized phone number from international phone numbers using the synthetic communication network. Before the phone device is registered, aspects of the present invention verify an association between the normalized phone number and the phone device by sending a verification message addressed to the phone device that loops back and returns to the phone device.
