  • Patent number: 5021039
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing air-cushion dispatch packages, the apparatus comprising an unwinding mechanism for paper webs and air-cushion foil webs. The apparatus introduces air-cushion foil webs between the paper webs and seals each paper web to a foil web over a large area. Transverse and longitudinal sealers seal the edges of the packages. After each sealing operation, the webs are subsequently cooled. Pulling rollers press the paper webs in the edge regions of the packages and advance the webs. Cutters cut the dispatch packages to the desired format. Web controllers correct deviation of the paper webs. A cycle controller is included.

  • Patent number: 5018318
Abstract: Apparatus for surface treatment of workpieces has a rotary horizontal cage with inclined end walls and a set of elongated rod-shaped or bar-shaped components between the end walls. The end walls are rotatable in inclined carriers which cause them to act not unlike swash plates and to cause the components to reciprocate in response to rotation of the cage about its axis. The end portions of the components are tensioned by springs which react against the end walls and bear against axially adjustable nuts at the free ends of the components at the outer sides of the end walls. The end walls have relatively large holes to ensure that the components are not flexed during reciprocation in response to rotation of the cage. Workpieces to be treated, e.g., by sprays of solid particles, are introduced through one of the end walls and advance toward the other end wall at a speed which is determined by the extent of reciprocatory movement of the components and the rotational speed of the cage.

  • Patent number: 5018310
Abstract: A grinding device (2) is inserted in the synthetic resin housing (1) of the knife sharpener, this grinding device consisting of a supporting unit (3) with two resiliently designed supporting arms (6, 7) for two grinding wheels (8, 9). In the installed condition, the grinding wheels (8, 9) extend in sections and with a mutual spacing through slots (17, 18) in the housing wall (16) into a trough-like indentation (19) of the housing (1) accessible from the top. The two grinding wheels (8, 9) form, in the region of the indentation (19), by a partial overlap (20) with their peripheral surfaces (21, 22) a honing angle (.alpha.) which is infinitely variable within a range of 40.degree.-50.degree..

  • Patent number: 5019024
Abstract: One or more tapes being pulled toward the mandrel of a tube winding machine are tensioned by passing them over vacuum chambers. Glue is applied to one or more tapes adjacent the vacuum chambers. If the tube winding machine stops for any reason, the vacuum chambers keep the tapes to which glue is applied taut, and those tapes are moved out of contact with the glue applying member. The length of each tape which is in contact with the glue applying member can be adjusted to adjust the amount of glue applied to the tape. Heat can be applied to each tape after glue has been applied in order to promote curing of the glue.

  • Patent number: 5018311
Abstract: A tape burnishing device presents aligned stretches of burnishing tape at each side of a rotating disk. Air nozzles at each side of the disk urge an elliptical pattern of the respective stretches of tape into contact with the disk. During burnishing the tape is stationary while the device is advanced to burnish the desired surface of the disk. The tape stretches, that are portions of a single tape, are positioned at an angle with respect to the radius of the disk and the device is advanced in a radial direction to optimize the burnishing action relative to the rotating disk surface. The tape is advanced between burnishing operations twice the dimension of use during a burnishing operation with the two operating locations out of phase to enable the single tape to advance past both burnishing locations while presenting an unused surface at each location and using the entire surface of the tape.

  • Patent number: 5018313
Abstract: A roundness processing device for a slipper surface of a rocker arm capable of rounding the slipper surface of the rocker arm without forming roundness on the polishing surface of a grinding wheel. A wheel side unit containing a disc-shaped grinding wheel, a jig side unit for holding and oscillating the rocker arm, a conveyor for conveying the rocker arm, and an access robot for moving in and out the rocker arm are automatically driven and controlled, as being mutually related, by automatic control such as numerical control. The polishing surface of the grinding wheel is formed on a plane vertical to the rotary shaft line of the grinding wheel, while the slipper surface of the rocker arm is oscillated about the oscillation shaft line positioned at a distance of a specific radius of curvature from the polishing surface.

  • Patent number: 5016402
Abstract: A kit including a plurality of sandpaper supporting devices, each of differing length and/or width dimension whereby areas of varying size and contour may more readily be finished in an abrading process. Each of the devices includes a plate member of a predetermined length and width dimension, the plate being sufficiently flexible to conform to the contour of the surface being finished. One or more handle members of varying types are releasibly attached to one major surface of the plate. A knobby elastomeric pad is removably attached to the other major surface of the plate, preferably using Velcro.RTM. strips. The knobby pad serves as a backing or support for an abrasive sheet (e.g. sandpaper) of a width and length corresponding to the dimensions of the plate member. When the supporting devices are to be used with an airfile, a special adapter is used which is coupled to the supporting device and permits flexure of the supporting devices.

  • Patent number: 5017072
Abstract: A press for converting work pieces into finished parts has an elongated bolster mounted on a press bed. The bolster supports columns on which a ram is slidable. The bolster also supports the lower die show of the press tooling. A conveyor or transfer system mounted on the bolster carries work pieces into and out of the area of the tooling. The bolster is a unitary piece which integrates support of the die shoe, columns and conveyor to assure proper cooperation and alignment among them. A pivotable carrier mounts a feed mechanism for feeding a stock strip into the tooling. Power to the feed mechanism is supplied through a shaft which is coaxial with the hinge line of the carrier, so that the carrier can be swung away from the tooling for service access without requiring disconnection of the power supply. A traveling vacuum box on the lower die shoe supports the conveyor for vertical as well as longitudinal motion, and retains the work pieces on the conveyor.
