  • Patent number: 4398411
Abstract: A rivet bucking tool (10) is provided with a damping piston (13) having a skirt (18) thereon and in which the shank (25) of a rivet bucking die (23) is freely removably received. This allows easy exchange of the dies (23) for piston recoil adaptation to rivets of different size and material. The area transformation between the shank (25) and the damping piston (13), the skirt (18) thereon, and the preferably airtight frictional fit of the skirt (18) around the shank (25) are utilized to convert bucking stress into vibration so as to reduce joint recoil of the damping piston (13) and die (23) during bucking. Vibration and recoil are absorbed in the tool housing (11) by compressed air in a damping chamber (42) wherein the pressure is selectively adjustable by a valve (28).

  • Patent number: 4398628
Abstract: A plurality of pins (20) are supported and held within a pin supporting shuttle (54) by wedging the shank portion (24) of each of the pins between a respective one of a plurality of spaced parallel channels (58) and a ramp (62). The shuttle (54) is then moved to place a free end of each of the pins (20) in a gripped position within an insertion apparatus (55). The shuttle (54) is manipulated so that the shank portion (24) is allowed to return to a normal axis of each respective pin (20). The shuttle (54) is then removed from about the pins (20).

  • Patent number: 4397145
Abstract: A universal or ball pivot-link chain arrangement has chain link elements subdivided in an axial plane, each chain link element has a ball pivot body provided with an undercut portion of substantially hemispherical shape. A ball socket enclosing the ball pivot body of an adjacent link has a ring connection at the region of said undercut portion of the adjacent link. Each ring connection has ring-shaped braces engaging countersurfaces of the ball socket. These braces are effective not only in the radial direction, but are arranged to act as blocking devices against any relative displacement of the two halves of the chain link elements in the axial direction.

  • Patent number: 4394810
Abstract: The invention comprises a combination vise and breaker pin for facilitating repair of metal drive chains. The vise serves to pull the links of a chain together so that tension is maintained throughout the chain while links between vise jaws become loose and readily repairable. This feature is combined with a breaker pin moving within a hollow channel axial of a full thread hex head bolt. A breaker point having an annular shoulder is attached at one end of the breaker pin. The breaker pin is free to slide back and forth within the bolt except as limited by the annular shoulder. The breaker pin cooperates with a U-shaped cradle suitable for holding a link. The breaker point is brought into contact with the center bearing of a chain link when the left and right-hand jaws of the vise are moved toward one another. The bolt carrying the breaker pin is then tightened against the chain link bearing pin.

  • Patent number: 4393684
Abstract: A press for assembling a fastener or the like to a plate or the like comprises a frame and an anvil assembly carried by said frame. A toggle mechanism assembly is carried by the frame and includes two toggle links. A ram is operatively connectable to the toggle links. A first pneumatic cylinder and piston assembly holds the ram in a raised position. A first pneumatic switch terminates the flow of pressurized air to the first pneumatic cylinder, thereby permitting the ram to drop by gravity. A second pneumatic switch is activated after a sufficient drop of said piston to energize a second pneumatic cylinder and piston assembly for extending and retracting said toggle links, and thereby forcefully lower the ram to install the fastener or the like to a plate or the like.

  • Patent number: 4392368
Abstract: A press operating with hydraulic pressure comprises a pair of relatively movable components (8, 11) which during a pressing operation carry out a relative movement which is sensed. By use of the sensed relative movement a control signal is generated which is used for regulating the hydraulic pressure so that this is caused to vary with the relative movement according to a certain functional relationship. For generating the control signal a manually programmable electrical function generator (23) is provided, preferably a panel (29) comprising plug contacts (34), on which a plurality of pairwise associated pressure and movement values, constituting electrically and visually readable points in the desired functional relationship, can be set up.

  • Patent number: 4391120
Abstract: A radial truing device is disclosed having two sets of parallel jaws that are spaced apart to engage the opposite bead seats of a wheel, and the like. The jaws comprise radially extending slides, and each set of jaws is actuated by a separate ring, which rotates to move overcenter devices to an inline position to move the jaws radially inwardly. The overcenter devices bear against one half of a ring, and an antifriction bearing capable of absorbing radial and lateral movement is positioned between the other half of the ring and the frame. In the preferred embodiment, the overcenter devices are toggles that are connected to the jaws and to the rings by pins, and the bearings are generally in line with the connection of the overcenter device and the ring, so that the overcenter devices run true.

  • Patent number: 4391119
Abstract: Apparatus for cutting, swivel-bending and press-bending of sheet material includes a frame having a cross-beam, a member providing a bearing surface, and a clamping beam, the cross-beam having a snaker and the clamping beam having a bending die for press-bending. The frame supports the cross-beam and the clamping beam for movement relative to one another whereby the snaker and die may engage the sheet material to effect press-bending. The frame further supports the clamping beam and bearing surface for movement relative to one another to clamp the sheet material to effect cutting or swivel-bending thereof. A swivel beam and shearing beam are supported by the frame for movement relative to the clamped sheet material independently of movement of the clamping beam.

  • Patent number: 4389874
Abstract: A bending brake with an elongate horizontal blade lowerable onto a V-shaped ie has a fixed bed supporting the die and a pair of parallel hydraulic cylinders with pistons carrying the blade, the cylinders being mounted on brackets rising from the bed above the die. The admission of hydraulic fluid to the cylinders is controlled by electrically operated valves responsive to limit switches as well as a pair of mechanical valves, the latter being disposed close to the ends of the die on the fixed bed and being respectively operated by pins mounted on the vertically reciprocable blade in order to stop the descent of the corresponding piston in a predetermined but adjustable bottom position. The return stroke of the blade is not started until both mechanical valves have thus been operated, thereby ensuring that a workpiece of sheet material between the blade and the die is bent about a crease line having the proper orientation.

  • Patent number: 4389872
Abstract: A tube bender construction for manual operation in bending a tube. The tube bender includes a mandrel defining a bending groove into which the tube is urged by a forming member mounted to the mandrel to swing about a bending axis of the bending groove. The tube to be bent is held against longitudinal movement during the bending operation by tube-holding structure arranged to clamp the tube against an extended groove portion of the mandrel. Movement of the forming member about the bending axis is effected by manipulation of a pair of handles which are arranged in offset manner to permit crossover of the handles and avoid interference between the user's hands thereon in the tube bending operation.
