  • Patent number: 5103939
Abstract: The brake has a carrier member (12) comprising a fastening portion (14) for mounting near a brake disc (10) and a centrally disposed bridging portion (16) extending across the brake disc (10), as well as a floating caliper (30) which straddles part of the brake disc (10) and the carrier member (12) as well as the brake pads (40,42). A pair of actuating cylinders (36) are disposed at least approximately symmetrically with respect to an axial center plane (D) of the carrier member (12), at the floating caliper (30). At each side of the brake disc (10) there are two separate brake pads (40, 42) adapted to be disassembled past the bridging portion (16) substantially radially with respect to the brake disc (10) when the brake is in its installed position.

  • Patent number: 5103944
Abstract: A wedge-type actuator for actuating drum brakes including guide rollers positioned between the wedge and a plunger that contacts the leading brake shoe. The guide rollers are carried between a guiding surface on the wedge and a guiding surface in the housing, to take up the reaction forces caused by the larger actuation forces needed to operate the trailing brake shoe. The disclosed arrangement provides more even braking forces, and thereby results in more even brake shoe wear.

  • Patent number: 5101939
Abstract: A caliper brake set engages a disk on the machine shaft or drive sheave to hold the elevator car in place at a landing. The brake set is biased by one or a pair of springs to a "brake-on" condition, and a solenoid assembly is provided to hold the brake set in a "brake off" condition when power is supplied to the solenoid. Camming levers are used in conjunction with the solenoid to provide a mechanical advantage which allows use of smaller solenoids. The brake shoes are spring biased for improved operation on the disk.

  • Patent number: 5102109
Abstract: A hydraulic shock absorber with a housing defining a high pressure space and containing a piston adapted to be moved by a mass to be damped. When the piston is moved for damping hydraulic fluid is displaced from the high pressure space so that there is a damping action. There is both a pressure-dependent damping device and also a piston stroke-dependent damping device.

  • Patent number: 5099967
Abstract: A drum brake assembly has brake shoes 2 and 3 within a rotatable drum 1. The shoes 2 and 3 are displaceable to effect braking by an hydraulic ram 7 and free ends 9 of the shoes react against an abutment 10. This reaction is effected through a layer of viscoelastic damping material and metal plate laminate 110 which may be carried by either the brake shoes or the abutment 10. The viscoelastic layer may be bonded between steel plates and secured by a spring clip to either the brake shoe or the abutment 10. Alternatively the viscoelastic layer may be bonded to the abutment 10. The laminate 110 can be accommodated within a recess in the abutment 10. The provision of the viscoelastic layers through which the brake shoes react on the abutment 10 alleviates the development of noise or squeal during use of the brake assembly.

  • Patent number: 5099965
Abstract: The invention concerns a braking device with a piston that can be acted upon by a pressure medium from a pressure medium chamber against the force of a actuation spring. The piston is connected through an actuation arm with a brake linkage. In order to reduce the dimensions of the braking device, the actuation spring and the actuation arm are parallel and coaxial to each other, such that the actuation spring and the actuation arm are located between the moment arms of the brake linkage.

  • Patent number: 5097927
Abstract: The present invention relates to a vehicle brake and hub comprising a ring braking member having braking surfaces both to the interior and exterior of the member in combination with a cast hub which includes centrally disposed aligned bearing ports for receiving bearings. The cast hub includes an outwardly exposed securing surface which cooperates with the ring braking member to effect securement of the braking member to the casting and in a manner to accommodate heat transfer therebetween. The cast hub includes intermediate the securing surface and the aligned ports, fan blades which cause during rotation of the hub an axial flow of air to move across the bearing ports and to extract heat from the fan blades and the securing surface. The fan blade collectively interconnect and structurally secure the securing surface and the bearing ports.

  • Patent number: 5096168
Abstract: Among two damping devices arranged in series between wheel side members and body side members, while in one damping device spring constant of a spring member is set low and damping coefficient of a damper member is set high, in the other damping device spring constant of a spring member is set high and damping coefficient of a damper member is set low. By this arrangement, difference in damping force between the area of low oscillation frequency and the area of high oscillation frequency can be made large, whereby running stability and comfortableness to ride in can be improved on a high level.

  • Patent number: 5090519
Abstract: In a disk brake actuated preferably hydraulically, a piston (5) is guided within a housing located in a caliper. When pressure is applied, the piston acts in such a manner against a brake shoe (15) bearing a brake lining (17) that the brake shoe (15) is pressed with its brake lining against the brake disk to be braked. The side of the piston facing the brake shoe has a pressure plate (13) which transmits the pressure forces and which moves transversely within its recess in the piston (5). The pressure plate (13) is mounted on the end of a tappet (25) extending axially inside the piston (5) and bracing itself at the end opposite the pressure plate by a disk (27) at the bottom (29) of the bore (31) accommodating the tappet, and is surrounded by a prestressed compression spring (37). Lateral movements of the pressure plate (13) cause tipping of the tappet (25) and, as a consequence thereof, a reset force exerted by the compression spring (37 ) on the tappet (25) and, thus, on the pressure plate (13).

  • Patent number: 5088699
Abstract: An engine mount includes a main working chamber and an expansion chamber. Orifice passages in which electrodes are disposed, fluidly connect the main and expansion chambers. An auxiliary chamber which is hermetically separated from the main working chamber by a flexible partition is in part defined by a diaphragm the external surface of which is exposed to atmospheric pressure. The auxiliary chamber contains an ERF which develops a higher viscosity than the ERF which fills the main and expansion chambers. When a voltage is impressed on electrodes in the auxiliary chamber the viscosity of the ERF increases and the flexure of the flexible elastomeric partition is prevented.

  • Patent number: 5088705
Abstract: A bicycle shock-absorbing apparatus comprises an inner tube and an outer tube. The inner tube is inserted into the outer tube. An upper spring socket and a lower spring socket are disposed in the inner tube and the outer tube separately. A compression spring is disposed between the spring sockets, oil being filled between the spring sockets. The inner tube is fixedly attached to the upper spring socket and corelatedly actuated with the spring to achieve a shock absorbing effect. A hole is formed in the center of the upper spring socket, enabling oil to flow therethrough. An oil seal is disposed inside the top of the outer tube to prevent oil spillage. An air inlet socket is attached inside an upper wall of the inner tube, while an air inlet valve is received by the air inlet socket to enable inflation of the inner tube. • Patent number: 5086884
Abstract: A disc brake caliper assembly for a rotary disc brake of a vehicle which has a wear adjustment mechanism is provided. The disc brake caliper assembly (10) includes a caliper housing (14) with a piston (28) slidably mounted therein, but prevented from rotating by a lug (30) on a brake shoe (16) secured thereto which keys in a groove (32) in the piston. An actuator screw (44) and actuator nut (66) are positioned in an internal bore (65) in the piston for mechanical actuation of the brakes. If the brake pads (20, 22) wear, on hydraulic actuation of the brakes, a thrust washer (70) engages and moves the actuator nut axially along the actuator screw to a new position which restricts reverse movement of the piston to a new (wear adjusted) position relative to the caliper housing. An actuator cone (68) having a friction clutch surface biased into engagement with a friction clutch surface on the piston prevents reverse movement of the actuator nut.
