  • Patent number: 8792913
Abstract: A user, either in a vehicle with a telematics device, at a home having a computer device, using a handheld wireless device, or other type of communication device, can request services such as to repair a flat tire, unlock a locked door, repair cable television service, etc. using the communication device. The user's communication device sends a request message over the communication network to a second server. The second server creates a request for service record and forwards the message to a first server that determines a resource to dispatch to the user's location. The first server sends resource information, including location information, to the user's device, and either the device, or a device coupled to the user's communication device, displays the current location of the service resource on a map as the resource makes its way toward the user's location.

  • Patent number: 8768297
Abstract: A system and method in a cellular telecommunication network for indicating tariff-related information to an end user having the ability to access network areas with different charging tariffs. In one embodiment, a Charging Indication Data Base (CIDB) in the access network stores charging indications for different combinations of end users and cell identities, and a Rate Indication Data Base (RIDB) stores tariff information for the core network. When the end user accesses the cellular network through an identified cell, a radio network controller (RNC) retrieves a charging indication from the CIDB and sends it to a Mobile Switching Center (MSC). The MSC uses the charging indication to retrieve tariff-related information from the RIDB and sends it to the end user. The CIDB and RIDB may also be co-located in the core network.

  • Patent number: 8749596
Abstract: A pixel with variable chromatic coordinates comprises a plurality of color sub-pixels consisting of a light emitter and a color filter. The light emitters are identical and have an emission spectrum that is able to be modulated according to their supply voltage and/or current. The pixel control circuit supplies each color sub-pixel with a supply voltage and/or current dependent on the color of the sub-pixel for its emission spectrum to approximate the transmission spectrum of the associated color filter. Control means enable the application time of the supply voltage and/or current to be modified according to the color of the sub-pixel to obtain a predetermined mean luminance during a predetermined period.

  • Patent number: 8723799
Abstract: A novel capacitive sensing keyboard allows for keypads to be easily changed for repair or reconfiguration purposes. The keypads can be made of a deformable and resilient material, such as an elastomer, which can provide tactile feedback to a user and which are relatively inexpensive to manufacture. An array of overlying pairs of driver elements and sense elements are located adjacent the keypad and changes in the dielectric value of materials about the driver/sense element pairs are detected when a key on the keypad is pressed by a user. These detected changes are processed in view of a defined key map to determine which key or keys have been pressed by the user.

  • Patent number: 8698765
Abstract: Techniques for associating concepts found within content items rendered by electronic devices. By associating concepts in this manner, a user of an electronic device is able to view how these concepts interrelate with one another across various content items stored on or accessible by the electronic device. For instance, a user may associate a first concept with a second concept in an index of the electronic device. Thereafter, the user may conduct a search for the first concept and, in response, the electronic device may reference the index and determine that this first concept is in fact associated with the second concept. As such, the electronic device may return results that include both the first and second concepts, possibly within a certain specified distance of one another within a content item. The user is therefore able to see how the first concept and the second concept interrelate with one another.
