  • Patent number: 4677910
Abstract: Processing is based on print carriers in the form of security paper webs or security paper sheets, containing security paper prints which are arranged in the manner of matrices in transverse rows and longitudinal rows and on which spoilt notes are identified by a mark which can be read by a reading instrument. The print carriers pass, in succession, by a reading instrument which detects the positions of the spoilt notes and feeds them into a computer for storage, a cancellation printer controlled by this computer, which provides spoilt notes with a cancellation print, and a numbering machine. The numbering mechanisms of this numbering machine are moved forward by the computer in such a way that always the satisfactory security paper prints, placed in succession in any longitudinal row, are serially numbered, the spoilt notes being neglected.

  • Patent number: 4669388
Abstract: A conveyor includes carriers supported on a carrier track, pushers supported on an adjacent power track, and a work station located along the carrier track. Each carrier is propelled to a pick-up station in advance of the work station by engagement of one of the pushers with a driving dog on the carrier. A carriage, movable between the pick-up station and a discharge station following the work station and having releasable coupling devices adapted to engage carriers at the pick-up and work stations, is reciprocatably driven on forwarding and return movements by a linear motor. On the forwarding carriage movement, carriers at the pick-up and work station are rapidly advanced to the work and discharge station, respectively, and the coupling devices are released prior to the return movement of the carriage. A carrier advanced to the discharge station is re-engaged by one of the pushers of the conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4668142
Abstract: Car-carrier with each wheel-train equipped with its own carrying cross-structures.In this car carrier, the load levels (15) and (16) are composed of two side-rails (18) and (19,) which can be moved vertically along frame posts. The said side-rails are fitted with sustaining cross-structures (24) and (25) that can be moved lengthwise and can be blocked in any given position so as to create between the position of two of them a sufficiently wide interval to receive the wheelbase of each car to be carried. The lowest level (4) is realized by vertically mobile platforms, that are hinged together.

  • Patent number: 4664307
Abstract: Railroad tank cars are provided with spirally wound cylindrical tanks spanning and supported on wheeled trucks with a continuous weld extending the full length of the tank. A steel plate ribbon or strip is spirally wound in the form of a right circular cylinder with a continuous weld bonding the edges of the strip in abutted relation to provide the tank side wall. The open ends of the resulting cylinder tube are closed by welded-on end caps and suitable openings are provided in the tube for manways, vents, valves and the like. A heating coil may be provided on the inside or outside of the tank in intimate contact with the spirally wound ribbon and conventional insulation and jacketing may be provided around the tank. Drop center and center sump tank are provided by cutting the spirally wound tube along a diagonal plane, rotating adjoining sections 180.degree.

  • Patent number: 4664038
Abstract: A hopper vehicle has a hopper door movable between open and closed positions and carrying a door latch movable between latching and unlatching configurations with respect to a keeper on the hopper vehicle. A secondary latch on the door is pivotally movable between a latched condition engageable with a keeper on the door latch for holding it in its unlatching configuration and an unlatched condition accommodating movement of the door latch between its latching and unlatching configurations. A spring urges the secondary latch toward its latched condition and an actuator plate on the hopper vehicle drives the secondary latch to its unlatched condition in response to movement of the door to its closed position. Thus, the door latch is held in its unlatching configuration except when the door is closed.

  • Patent number: 4659022
Abstract: Method of producing silicon carbide and of automatically separating a high grade fraction thereof using magnetic separation techniques. In the method of the invention, a silicon source, a carbon source and a ferromagnetic element source are admixed and the admixture is heated from the center outward to form a cylinder containing silicon carbide with a center to exterior temperature gradient. The ferromagnetic element migrates from the hotter center to the cooler exterior portions of the cylinder. The cylinder is cooled and crushed. The lower grade silicon carbide particles are then separated from the high grade silicon carbide crystals using magnetic separation means.

  • Patent number: 4651650
Abstract: An elastomeric pad placed in shear and having one portion or surface engaged with a portion of a railway car body and another portion or surface engaged by pivotal linkage means to a wheel housing dampens vibrations of a wheel and axle assembly which is resiliently mounted to the car body for rollingly supporting the car body. The pivotal linkage is elongated and connected to the wheel housing and the car body using spherical bearings to minimize wear. The linkage is attached at an angle of inclination to minimize strain on the elastomeric pad and linkage assembly caused by vertical travel of the railway car body due to varying weight loads.

  • Patent number: 4650081
Abstract: A claw coupling for electric toy and model trains with prerelease has a claw, which can be hooked from the side into a rigid hook of the respective end supporting part, and which is spring-mounted and preclamped so that it can swivel in a horizontal plane into the coupling position and can be lifted upwardly by means of a coupling lever of a release track and which engages a pivot journal that projects downwardly. The pivot journal is mounted in a borehole acting against a vertical restoring force from its coupling position into a release position that is limited by a stop. The spring, which produces the restoring force that counteracts the swivelling motion, is in the form of a tongue adjacent to the claw, optionally with clearance, and is attached to a bearing part.

  • Patent number: 4648765
Abstract: A two-piece universal tie-down bracket which has wide applications but is especially useful in connection with utility trucks having plastic bed liners, and with marine craft. The bracket comprises an elongate base member constructed as a wire form, having openings at its ends and an open loop intermediate its ends. The base member is mounted on a supporting surface such as the plastic bed liner by screws, bolts or the like passing through the end openings, and prior to its attachment a tethering ring also fabricated as a wire form is placed in the open loop to hang loosely therefrom in readiness for use after securement of the base member. The supporting surface for the base member holds the tethering loop captive, and the loop will hang in a collapsed out-of-the-way position close to the base member for a large number of different mounting positions of the latter.

  • Patent number: 4642007
Abstract: A palletized cylinder distribution system facilitates the transportation and distribution of gas cylinders. The system includes a network of members and cross members, this network being mounted on the rear of a truck. A walkway is disposed on the network, the walkway dividing the network into at least two regions. The surface of the walkway is raised from the level of the network. Pallets of gas cylinders are placed on the network, forming rows on either side of the walkway. The pallets have base portions which include laterally extending tabs. The tabs hold the pallets in place by engagement with a flange defined by the walkway, and with another flange disposed on side rails attached to the network, on the other side of the pallet. The truck has no flatbed of its own; the bases of the pallets, together with the surface of the walkway, define the bed of the truck. Access to the cylinders is obtained through the walkway.
