  • Patent number: 4708540
Abstract: A two-part drill bushing assembly makes use of a sleeve, identified in the trade as a lock liner bushing which is embedded in a jig plate for reception of a separate slip renewable bushing element. Extending through the renewable bushing element is an axial bore within which a drill bit rotates during operation on a workpiece. On the exterior of the renewable bushing element is a helical shoulder which, when rotated, interlocks with a locking shoulder of the liner bushing. The invention involves a stiff wire rod, a mid-portion of which is bent to form the locking shoulder and from which legs extend to positions of snapped-on attachment to the liner bushing.

  • Patent number: 4708538
Abstract: A tapper for loading a spindle of machine tools with a tap. The tapper proper has a shaft to be driven, which is supported under floating axially by means of a pair of springs the pressurizing direction of which are opposite to each other, built-in. Cutting oil is pressurized to be fed from the outside of the tapper proper through oil passages, respectively which are provided on the tapper proper and the shaft to be driven to a oil hole and, in that case, the oil passages are formed such that the resultant hydraulic pressure does not give rise to an action of breaking the floating state of the shaft to be driven.

  • Patent number: 4706371
Abstract: A machine tool having a table movable relative to a head for machining a workpiece mounted on the head by a tool mounted on the table. The table also supports a magazine for blank workpieces, and the table is movable between a first position in which the head and the tool are in machining proximity and a second position in which the head and the magazine are proximate. The head has a work holder adapted to grip a blank workpiece at said second position for transfer, by movement of the table, to said first position. After machining, the workpiece is correspondingly returnable to the magazine. The work holder is mounted on a spindle supported on the head and rotatable for machining purposes. In a modification the spindle supports a tool, and the head has a gripper which is separate from the spindle and is used for the transfer of workpieces between the magazine and a work holder mounted on the table.

  • Patent number: 4706360
Abstract: A thread gage for use with a threading machine for automatically and quickly gaging a thread after it is formed. A stylus support is mounted on the machine turret for placement of the stylus in position for movement axially of the thread to follow the thread contour. The stylus is connected to a transducer. The machine computer control may be programmed to receive signals from the transducer indicative of radial position of the stylus tip and signals relative to axial position of the turret indicative of axial position of the stylus tip to form a digital model of the thread which may then be compared to a standard thread and/or used to make adaptive threading machine offsets.

  • Patent number: 4701994
Abstract: The present invention relates to an automatic tool assembly apparatus for a modular constituted tool. The automatic tool assembly apparatus has a tool stock unit for storing a plurality of types of modular constituted tools for a machine tool disassembled in units of modules, a tool transfer unit for assembling a predetermined modular constituted tool from a plurality of modules in the tool stock unit and conveying the assembled modular constituted tool from the tool stock unit, and a control unit. The tool stock unit holds the modular constituted tool disassembled in units of modules. The stock position of each module required for assembling a tool requested by the machine tool is indexed from a signal from the control unit. The modules are then sequentially positioned at the assembly position. The tool transfer unit has an assembly head which is movable in a direction to approach and separate from the assembly position in response to an instruction from the control unit.

  • Patent number: 4701084
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for attaching a shell-type milling cutter wherein an area for fastening the shell-type milling cutter to its cutter arbor is increased to raise rigidity and attachment strength thereby making high-speed and heavy-duty cutting possible, so that the cutting efficiency thereof becomes substantially identical to that of an integral structure type milling cutter, besides exchange of the milling cutter can very simply be attained. The method for attaching a shell-type milling cutter according to the present invention is conducted by such a manner that the inside diameter portion of a shell-type milling cutter is formed into a tapered hole, and a bush is forcibly inserted in a gap defined between the tapered hole and a fitting shaft of a cutter arbor, whereby the milling cutter is fixed to the cutter arbor.

  • Patent number: 4700955
Abstract: A fluid-operated ram, for example comprising a cylinder 10 and piston 12, is provided for actuating a device such as a chuck having jaws 15. When the jaws are moved by the ram to grip a workpiece this constitutes a limiting position which impedes the flow of fluid thus causing a build-up of fluid pressure within the ram. This build-up can be detected to give an indication as to when a workpiece has been securely and safely gripped. To ensure that a false indication is not given if the ram reaches an end of its working stroke before the workpiece is securely gripped, means (22) are provided to relieve pressure within the ram when the ram reaches an end of its working stroke.

  • Patent number: 4696085
Abstract: An apparatus for pressing tubular parts, more particularly for pressing or forcing pipe-unions onto pipes, sleeves or hoses. The apparatus includes a plurality of spring loaded, radially adjustable jaws and an annular piston in operative communication with the jaws. The piston can move hydraulically towards the jaws and can be returned hydraulically to its neutral position. The effective area of the piston, by means of which it is returned to its neutral position, amounts to only a fraction of the piston-area which advances the piston. The end of the piston remote from the jaws engages in an annular hydraulic cylinder, the entire cross-section of the piston which is largest at this end, forming the effective piston-area which advances the piston.

  • Patent number: 4688975
Abstract: The power tool has a magnetic base with superposed permanent magnet assemblies. The upper assembly can be moved relative to the lower assembly to subtract from or reinforce the magnetic field. When the sensing probe is pushed into the base the electric motor can be switched on to rotate a spindle on which a rotary cutting tool is axially mounted. The tool feed is controlled by a handle which can be mounted on either side of the tool housing. A coolant reservoir on the base has a hose connected to a pump which is connected to a manifold supplying coolant to the center of the cutting tool. The cutting tool is biased upwardly and pinches off the coolant when the tool is raised from the work. The tubular tool shank is retained on the drive spindle by balls carried by a cage and moved into engagement with a groove in the tool shank by a cam surface on a release collar spring biased to move the balls to engage the tool.

  • Patent number: 4687389
Abstract: A machine for coding or duplicating a pattern of bits onto a key blank employs a locator block which forms reference slots for receiving a key to be duplicated. A template having a matrix of openings which correspond to possible pre-established bit locations is positioned in registration with the key receiving slots. A depth gauge is employed so that a guide selectively seated in a bit defining cut-out of the pattern key indicates the correct incremental depth of the bit to be duplicated. A cutter having a preestablished relationship to the depth gauge guide is employed to obtain the correct cutting depths for the key blank bits.

  • Patent number: 4687391
Abstract: A milling machine head assembly has a milling machine head mounted on a movable carriage, for movement with the carriage and for angular movement relative to the carriage about a predetermined axis. A motor is mounted on the carriage for movement with the carriage but is maintained stationary during angular movement of the machine head.
