  • Patent number: 5276288
Abstract: A trip-free operating mechanism for a load break switch of the type having a fixed contact engageable by a movable contact between a fully closed position and a fully open position. The operating mechanism includes an operating lever connected to the movable contact and rotatable about a shaft to move the contact between its open and closed positions. A follower rotates with the shaft into and out of contact with the operating lever. A closing spring biases the operating lever and the follower towards each other. An opening spring drive connects to the follower to drive the follower to its switch contact open position. A first latch holds the operating lever and follower apart against the force of the closing spring when the operating lever is in its switch contact closed position.

  • Patent number: 5275320
Abstract: The invention relates to a roof luggage carrier for motor vehicles with roof railing having transverse girders (2) and a removable clamping assembly (3). The clamping assembly (3) includes supporting jaws (5) that can be inserted in a lower longitudinal slot (11) on the transverse girder (2), and of clamping jaws (6). The clamping assembly (3) is actuated by means of a clamping screw bolt (8) which extends inside the transverse girder (2) in its longitudinal direction. This makes it possible to achieve simple assembly and easy handling. In another preferred embodiment the longitudinal edges of longitudinal slot (11) are provided with longitudinal edges (12, 13) which are surrounded by longitudinal grooves in the supporting jaws (5) and clamping jaws 6, so that widening of the longitudinal slot (11) when tilting stresses occur is prevented.

  • Patent number: 5275314
Abstract: The present invention makes beneficial use of, rather than replacing, a vehicle's snowplow headgear by combining the headgear with a tire/wheel mounting assembly. A headgear includes a lower horizontal support member parallel to the ground at about frame level, and a pair of substantially vertical uprights connected to the ends of the horizontal support member to form, when viewed from the front, a U or O-shaped support headgear structure. A power ram with a base is normally removably secured in a receiving socket on horizontal support member that forms the bottom of the "U/O" of the headgear. That ram is removed and the tire/wheel assembly is securely mounted in its place.

  • Patent number: 5270506
Abstract: A snap action switch has a base and cover enclosing upper and lower electrical terminals. A spring blade disposed between the terminals is movable by a cover-mounted actuator between engagement with one terminal or the other. The spring blade has only one stable position to which it returns upon release of the actuator force. The spring blade includes an anchor mounting the blade in the base and defining a generally planar junction portion. A pair of wings extend out of the plane of the junction portion. An elongated center beam connects at a fixed end to the junction. Outer beams on either side of the center beam connect to the wings. The free ends of all three beams are joined at a contact portion. Crimps in the outer beams place them in tension and the center beam in compression.

  • Patent number: 5265305
Abstract: In connection with an automatic control device for the cleaning power of a vacuum cleaner, comprising a blower, a blower drive motor and an associated control circuit for the latter, it is proposed to provide two vacuum switches adjusted to different vacuum threshold value or one vacuum double switch presetting the two vacuum threshold values, and to drive a storage (counter, capacitor), whose output configurations determine the manner in which a phase control circuit, which is connected in series with the blower drive motor, is driven, by a corresponding configuration of the switching conditions of the said switches. It is possible in this manner, with only two existing vacuum switches, to operate the blower drive motor at a predetermined power plateau, without any switching actions, so long as the vacuum generated remains within a predetermined window.

  • Patent number: 5264673
Abstract: A circuit interrupter manually opens and closes its contacts by use of a manually rotatable handle which acts through a collapsible linkage rotatably connected to a crank extension of the handle and rotatably connected to a rotatably movable contact support. The rotatable contact support is urged away from closed contact position by a main spring and in moving from one contact position to the other the axis of the rotatable connection between the handle crank passes over a center line defined by the center of rotation of the handle and the rotatable connection between the linkage and the movable contact support providing a toggle action to hold the movable contact in selected open or closed position. Upon overload, the mechanism causes collapse of the collapsible linkage allowing the movable contact support to move and open the contacts.

  • Patent number: 5260533
Abstract: A molded case circuit breaker having current limiting capabilities is dimensionally optimized for relatively smaller frame size circuit breakers. The handle yoke is supported with rollers thereby allowing the crossbar to be disposed in the space normally utilized for the handle yoke pivot axis. A clinch joint arcer assembly with a plurality of arcing contact arms, each pivotally connected by a clinch joint to a pivotally mounted main contact arm permits additional main contact arms to be provided in the same space normally occupied by the arcing contact arms alone. Additionally, arcing contact spring housings protect the arcing contact springs from deterioration due to corrosive ionizing gases generated during interruption. A positive off link assembly prevents the operating handle from being placed on an OFF position when the main contacts are welded together and transfers the force applied to the operating handle to the upper link to allow the weld to be broken.

  • Patent number: 5258591
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for providing an electrostatically actuated mechanical switch utilizing a cantilever beam element fabricated by solid-state microfabrication techniques. The apparatus reduces the required pull down voltage and lowers the switch inductance by separating the pull down electrode and contact pad. The pull down electrode is placed further away from the fulcrum of the cantilever beam then the contact pad to optimize the mechanical advantages which allow for a reduced pull down voltage. The contact pad is placed closer to the cantilever fulcrum to reduce the associated switch inductance. The gap between the contact pad and the cantilever beam is less then the gap between the pull down electrode and the cantilever beam to insure that the cantilever makes first contact with the contact pad.

  • Patent number: 5256841
Abstract: A electric switch is formed in the shape of a container having a front plate adapted for lockingly engaging an opening in an appliance control panel when the switch is rotatingly inserted within the opening in a clockwise direction. The front plate is shaped to allow orientation of the switch in a predetermined position. To unlock the switch from the panel for replacement or repair, the switch must be rotated in the counter-clockwise direction. A spring-loaded cam attached to the front plate engages a separate opening in the panel to prevent inadvertent removal of the switch during operation.
