  • Patent number: 4090671
Abstract: A multi-compartment tube mill is disclosed for the grinding of coarse material such as cement clinker in which the tube mill is divided into at least two mill sections each of which includes at least one grinding chamber. An inlet is provided at one end of the tube mill for the coarse material and for ventilating air or gas to ventilate the tube mill and for heat exchange with the material. An outlet is provided at the opposite end of the tube mill for the ground product. Disposed between the two mill sections is a composite diaphragm which defines a separation zone therebetween for removing humidity from the first mill section, and for introducing fresh ventilating air or gas into the second mill section. A method is disclosed for grinding coarse material in the inventive tube mill in which atmospheric conditions are controlled from the inlet to the outlet of the mill.

  • Patent number: 4090670
Abstract: Rubber is recovered for re-use e.g. from scrap pneumatic tires by briefly raising a surface of the tire to a high temperature and then rasping the heat-treated surface. Tires reinforced either with a textile or a steel ply can first be parted on opposite sides of the breaker structure. A machine is provided which accepts pieces of vulcanized material and progressively reduces them to heat-treated particles by repetitively heating a surface of each piece and attacking it with a rasping tool.

  • Patent number: 4088274
Abstract: A glass bottle is fragmented for ease of disposal by crushing the bottle between a pair of crushing jaws having pointed teeth which apply highly concentrated crushing loads to the bottle to effect fragmenting of the bottle with minimum crushing force on the jaws. In the preferred form of the invention, the crushing jaws are contained in a housing having a hinged lid mounting one jaw for closing movement of the jaws to crush a bottle by closure of the lid and/or movement of the latter jaw relative to the lid when closed. The bottle fragments are collected in a receptacle which is removable from the housing for disposal of the fragments.

  • Patent number: 4085897
Abstract: An improved apparatus for the simultaneous crushing and drying of materials, such as coal with high moisture content, which includes a hammermill having parallel top inlets for the material and a rapid flow of hot air. The material drops into the impactor circle of the hammermill prior to any substantial mixing with the flow of hot air. The flow of hot air is selectively directed into the crushing chamber, behind the breaker plates or in parallel to both locations, to dry the material during crushing. A substantially unobstructed bottom outlet permits high flow rates through the apparatus. A method of crushing and drying high moisture content material is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4085898
Abstract: The jackets of rod-shaped supports, particularly jackets of welding electrodes, are removed by placing the jacketed support rods in a ball mill and grinding the jacketed rods to break up the jackets with steel rods constituting grinding members. This grinding operation takes place in a chamber having a perforate wall portion by which the broken jacket material passes and is transported, via a tube, to a fine grinder. Advantageously, the length of the container constituting the grinding chamber exceeds the length of the jacketed rods by only about 10% so that only a small axial shifting of the rods is possible and a transverse disposal of the rods is prevented. It is also expedient to fill the container to about 40% of its volume with the steel rod grinding members and to provide rapid closures for the containers for rapid charging of the jacketed rods and discharging of the dejacketed rods.

  • Patent number: 4084738
Abstract: A carrier for converting a hand nailer gun of the type used in frame building construction to an automatic nailing mechanism is described. The carrier includes a carriage for a hand nailer gun, and a frame which supports the carriage for movement along a construction surface. A motion sensing wheel engages any construction surface over which the carrier travels to reciprocate the hand nailer gun against the same and thereby periodically actuate a trigger plunger at the nail discharge port of the gun. Alternative mechanism is included for either automatically depressing the trigger finger to discharge the gun or to provide an operator with direct control of such discharge. Moreover, a safety blocking arrangement is included to prevent depression of the finger trigger except under controlled circumstances.

A power source for operating the ground traction devices is positioned forwardly of the feeder portion. At the discharging end portion of the feeder portion a pair of scrolls positioned in a trough feed the loose mined material into a breaker unit and therefrom onto a conveyor underlying the vehicle. A movable hopper is positioned for reciprocal longitudinal movement relative to the storage hopper by operation of a pair of piston cylinder assemblies. The movable hopper includes a hinged tailgate operable to move between an open position for loading the vehicle and a closed position for feeding the material to the breaker unit.
