Abstract: Rubber crumbs are imparted with non-tackiness or antiblocking property by treating the crumbs with a mixture of a rubber latex and an aqueous carbon black slurry in the presence of a coagulant.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing sulfated cellulose using any of the Lewis base-SO.sub.3 complexes as a sulfating agent, which characteristically consists in thermally activating cellulose prior to its sulfation in tertiary amines or a mixture of tertiary amines and amine hydrochlorides, thereby enabling alkali metal salts of cellulose sulfate to be favorably accepted as a binder for dentrifice compositions.
Abstract: Natural rubber latex is treated with a para-nitrosoaniline in the presence of a metal dialkyldithiocarbamate in order to protect the rubber from oxidative degradation. A hydroxylamine salt is added to the rubber latex before, during or after the reaction to reduce coloration of the latex on storage.

Abstract: A process is described for the production of a stable dispersion of a copolymer, in particular of a copolyester, copolyamide or copolyesteramide, in a non-solvent organic liquid. The process involves the steps of (1) dispersing two or more comonomers, each of which is capable of undergoing homopolymerization and is solid at the copolymerization temperature, in the liquid with the aid of a defined monomer-stabilizing agent and so as to produce monomer particles no larger than 50.mu., and (2) heating the dispersion so obtained so as to bring about copolymerization, in the presence of a defined polymer-stabilizing agent. The copolymers so produced are believed to be different in structure from those obtained from the same comonomers by melt or solution copolymerization.
Abstract: New stabilizers of polymers and co-polymers of vinyl chloride, the said stabilizers being 2-phenyl-indole derivatives corresponding to the formula: ##STR1## wherein R represents a phenyl radical, an amino group, optionally substituted by an acetyl or benzoyl radical, a mercapto group, optionally substituted by a branched-or straight-chain alkyl group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms or by a cyclohexyl radical, a carboxyl radical, a radical represented by the formula:R.sub.1 O--wherein R.sub.1 represents a hydrogen atom, an isopropyl, carboxymethyl, carbethoxymethyl, carbethoxyisopropyl, acetyl, docosanoyl, benzoyl, benzyl, or allyl radical or a branched-or straight-chain alkyl radical containing from 6 to 12 carbon atoms.

Abstract: A method of preparing resinous vehicles in aqueous medium by addition polymerizing a diene with a partially neutralized reaction product of an unsaturated carboxylic acid or anhydride and a drying oil is disclosed. The resinous vehicles are prepared in the presence of an oil-soluble free radical polymerization catalyst and have properties necessary for electrodeposition.
Abstract: Solutions of a copolymer of about 55 to 95 mol percent chlorotrifluoroethylene and about 45 to 5 mol percent ethylene in an organic solvent. The solutions may optionally contain an organic silane, preferably an aminosilane.
Abstract: A resinous product has high resistance to flame spread, good heat release and exhibits a low smoke-developed rating when exposed to flame or to indirect or radiant heat, and is flexible, tough and resistant to cracking and embrittlement upon curing. Such a product is the condensation product of resorcinol with or without included phenol, and an admixture of paraformaldehyde and furfural or furfuryl alcohol or both. The resorcinol starting material of this invention can also suitably be used in the form of a B-stage or partially cured resin or resorcinol-phenol-formaldehyde which is then condensed with the aforesaid aldehydes or such aldehyde substance and furfuryl alcohol. The product is useful in making castings or moldings which are resistant to embrittlement or cracking upon curing, and in making tough fiberglass parts, and it can contain fillers or the like. A method of making the product and articles is provided.
Abstract: This invention relates to a resin composition comprising an oil retainer, a base thermoplastic resin and an oil. The affinity of the oil retainer and base resin to the oil is defined to result in a resin composition which is excellent in moldability, lubricity and surface appearance.
Abstract: Hot melt polyolefin adhesives are provided having white color. These adhesives contain a white, non-pigmented polymeric composition prepared by polymerizing styrene in the presence of an amorphous polyalpha-olefin.
Abstract: Block copolymer compositions employed for use in footwear articles show improved performance when the usual crystal grade polystyrene is replaced with high impact polystyrene.
Abstract: Cellular urethane polymers are provided by effecting the reaction of an organic polyol reactant comprising a polyether polyol and an organic polyisocyanate reactant in the presence of a blowing agent and a catalyst system comprising a tertiary-dimethylamino ether mono-ol. In the dimethylamino ether mono-ols employed as catalysts in the practice of the invention, the tertiary-dimethylamino group and the hydroxyl group are positioned beta to a common acyclic ether oxygen atom or to different acyclic ether oxygen atoms which in turn are positioned beta to one another. The said dimethylamino ether mono-ols are versatile, low odor catalysts and are useful in forming cellular urethane polymers ranging from all water-blown flexible polyether foam to all fluorocarbon-blown rigid foam including semi-flexible and high-resilience foam products.

Abstract: A composition is disclosed of a sulfonic acid or amine salt thereof, a resinous carrier, and a solvent. The composition is applied to a portion of an electrical apparatus which is exposed to a gas stream. The solvent in the composition is evaporated to produce a thermoparticulating coating. When the electrical apparatus overheats the sulfonic acid or amine sulfonate in the coating forms particles in the gas stream which are detected by a monitor.
