Patent number: 4142708Abstract: There is disclosed herein a valve and seal assembly comprising a valve body having a movable core housed therein adapted to allow the flow of material through the valve to be interrupted, and means for sealing the core and body so as to prevent leakage. The valve is sealed against leakage through the cooperation of a pair of O rings disposed at opposite ends of the rotatable member and metal bars extending axially between these O rings and engaging portions of the core and body. The metal bars are retained in grooves provided in either the core or body and are surrounded by a layer of resilient material on three sides thereof which urge the exposed metal portion out of these grooves and into a sealing engagement with the opposing core or body surface and also prevent material flowing through the valve from entering the grooves. A similar seal in the form of a ring is also contemplated for use in sealing a rotating shaft.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1976Date of Patent: March 6, 1979Assignee: Sprayton Equipment CompanyInventor: Warren D. Patent number: 4141329Abstract: A fuel injection system is disclosed for an internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder and a piston operating therein to define with the cylinder head a combustion chamber wherein air is compressed while the piston is moving to one end of its stroke. The system has pressurizing means adjacent the combustion chamber which suddenly further compresses in a compression chamber a small part of the air precompressed in the combustion chamber to a substantially higher pressure and temperature than the peak pressure and temperature of air in the combustion chamber. Fuel feed means supplies fuel to the compression chamber, and nozzle means is operative to substantially confine the air in the compression chamber during its compression and to discharge the compressed air-fuel mixture as a jet into the combustion chamber.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1976Date of Patent: February 27, 1979Assignee: Foster-Miller Associates, Inc.Inventor: Francesco Pompei

Patent number: 4136853Abstract: A slide valve comprising a housing in which a slide is movably guided between two oppositely facing, flat contact surfaces. Communication between fluid passages in the housing is accomplished by hollow formed passage means on the slide. Seal rings carried in grooves in the slide maintain sealing contact between the slide and the contact surfaces of the housing and seal off the fluid passages relative to each other. Each seal ring consists of a band-shaped contact member and a resilient support member. The support member is arranged to bias the contact member against the contact surface by a force uniformly distributed over the entire length of the contact member.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1976Date of Patent: January 30, 1979Assignee: Atlas Copco AktiebolagInventors: Folke L. Patent number: 4135549Abstract: A main fluid pipe within a box-like housing has four auxiliary pipes connected thereto. Each auxiliary pipe extends to the outside of the housing. The first auxiliary pipe is connected to the drain of a swimming pool; the second is connected to the swimming pool pump; the third is connected to the skimmer and the fourth which extends upwardly is normally unconnected but closed by a valve. An adapter allows a standard garden hose to be connected to the fourth pipe for priming the pump and the swimming pool skimmer and drain lines. Chemicals may also be introduced into the fluid system through the fourth pipe. A thermometer, visible from the outside of the housing measures the temperature of the water within the pipe connected to the pump. The thermometer also measures the outside air temperature for comparison with the water temperature.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1976Date of Patent: January 23, 1979Inventor: Robert W. Baker

Patent number: 4134427Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for accurately controlling the splitting and/or proportionalizing of a flowing liquid into two preset flows. The device is capable of maintaining the desired preset quantitative relationship between incoming and outgoing flows regardless of the flow characteristics of the incoming liquid. The incoming liquid is directed to a distributor located within a collector housing and regardless of the incoming flow rate, is fed uniformly in the form of a flat sheet or curtain into the collector(s). The collector is divided into two collector chambers by partitions located on opposite sides of a central column with the flow distributor connected to a shaft rotatably mounted within the central column so as to place one of the partitions in the flow path of the liquid emerging from the distributor, thereby splitting that flow.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1975Date of Patent: January 16, 1979Inventor: Joseph Vitner
