Abstract: The present invention is an asphaltic composition which is useful as a roofing asphalt formulation and method of making this formulation. The composition includes about 39 to 99 percent by weight of oxidized asphalt and between 1 and about 8 percent oxidized polyethylene. It is preferred to use between about 0 to 40 percent of the saturant, which can be an unoxidized asphalt, to modify the viscosity of the formulation. There can be a filled asphaltic composition comprising about 40 percent by weight to about 99 percent by weight of the asphaltic composition and about 1 percent by weight to about 60 percent by weight of filler, which can be stone dust.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the product from the reaction of a basic polyaluminum or aluminum salt with a resin acid or its salt; said resin acid being derived from a rosin or a modified rosin. This agent is especially effective for improving the chroma and brightness of pigments when such pigment is treated with the polyaluminum salt by e.g. mixing. In addition to this, the polyaluminum salt increases the lipophilic properties of the pigments, which improves their oil-dispersability and also the pigments treated with the polyaluminum salt are essentially free from bleeding.

Abstract: Polyisocyanurate polymers are prepared by polymerization of polyisocyanates in organic solvents employing trimerization catalysts. The polyisocyanates are reacted with halogenated alcohols subsequent to polymerization. These polymers may be dispersed in polyols for the preparation of cellular and non-cellular polyurethane products having improved flame retardant physical properties.

Abstract: Natural occurring thermoplastic resins are used as a substitute for process oils and/or hydrocarbon resins, as well as for tackifiers, softeners, extenders, processing aids, and cure retarders, in rubber stocks, as for example, a rubber skim stock used in making a tire. The resins, which are derived from crude wood rosin, are high melting thermoplastic resins having carboxylic acid groups and are insoluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons. The source of the natural occurring resins is in ample supply as they are obtained from pine trees grown in North America. A specific type of thermoplastic resin is Vinsol, a registered trademark of Hercules Corporation.
Abstract: This invention relates to solutions of polyisocyanate polyaddition products with a solids content of from 5 to 70% by weight ofA. Reaction products of(a) polyisocyanates,(b) hydrazines and/or polyamines and/or dihydrazides and/or ammonia and/or urea and/or low molecular weight polyols,(c) optionally higher molecular weight polyols and(d) optionally formaldehyde inB. polyhydric alcohols having a molecular weight of between 62 and 450.
Abstract: A method of preparing polyether polyols in the 200-1000 molecular weight range by modifying a polyol initiator with an epoxy resin and one or more alkylene oxides is described. Abstract: The use of a catalytic amount of a specific monoorganotin compound, namely a monoalkyltin oxide, a monocarboxylate thereof, a monoalkyltin sulfide or monophenyltin oxide, in producing polyurethanes by reacting under heating an at least partially blocked polyisocyanate and an active hydrogen-containing compound significantly lowers the baking temperature and gives cured coatings with a smooth surface and good performance.
Abstract: A coating composition of enhanced physical characteristics such as those of hardness, flexibility and/or ultra-violet resistance is provided which comprises a mixture of ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer containing at least about 55% by weight of interpolymerized vinyl ester and a dibasic acid-modified rosin ester of a rosin acid and a polyhydric alcohol containing from 2 to 6 hydroxyl groups, said dibasic acid-modified rosin ester being present in said composition at a level of at least about 30% by weight.
Abstract: Polyurethane molding compositions are disclosed which contain diisocyanates and polyols and/or polyurethane prepolymers and sorbic acid or cinnamic as a setting catalyst. A process for preparing such compositions is also disclosed. These compositions give a rapid initial hardening and therefore mold release properties, which contribute to increased production speeds. Moreover, the acids used are physiologically safe, so that the process may be used for the production of objects used in medical science. The acids may also be used in a physiologically safe mixture with a heavy-metal containing catalyst.
Abstract: Method and composite of forming an elastomer product which comprises (A) solvent solution polymerizing an olefin monomer in the presence of an organometallic catalyst, (B) shortstopping the reaction with an excess of a rosin acid which has not been submitted to a disproportionation process and (C) recovering the elastomer composite.
Abstract: Disclosed herein are block copolymers prepared by polymerizing isobutylene in the presence of an alkyl-substituted phenol as chain transfer agent followed by reaction with a diisocyanate and coupling to a polyoxyalkylene polyol.
Abstract: A foundry mold or core is prepared by mixing with a foundry aggregate a polyisocyanate, a polymeric addition product of a phenol and a further material comprising aromatic hydroxyl groups, forming the mixture to the required shape and causing or permitting the polyisocyanate to react with both the addition product and the further material to bind the aggregate. The addition product may be prepared by reacting an unsaturated hydrocarbon with a phenol. The hydrocarbon may be comprised by a mixture of terpenes. The further hydroxy material may be a bisphenol or phenolic resin.
Abstract: Self-crosslinking coating compositions which are cathodically deposited on electrodeposition of paints containing the coating compositions and a process for producing aqueous solutions of the self-crosslinking coating compositions by acid neutralization are described. The coating compositions are the reaction products of a resin carrying amine groups and hydroxyl or carboxyl groups, and the reaction product carrying one free isocyanate group of a polyisocyanate and at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer having at least one isocyanate reactive hydrogen atom and the group ##STR1## The cathodically depositable electrodeposition paints cure rapidly at relatively low temperatures to provide films which are highly resistant to corrosive influences.
