Abstract: A singulating apparatus for a semiautomatic handgun is described comprising a spring member which extends from a sear in a cantilevered fashion for engagement by a sear actuating member when the sear actuating member is in a cocked position. When the sear actuating member is moved from its cocked position to a firing position by a pulling of a trigger member, the spring member is disengaged from the sear actuating member, significantly reducing the force necessary to discharge the firearm. The spring constant of the spring member is chosen to hold the sear in its cocked position after releasing a striker to discharge the firearm so as to prevent unintentional automatic operation. The sear is balanced and pivotally mounted in the firearm at its center of balance so as to prevent unintentional discharge of the firearm in the event that the firearm is dropped or struck by a sharp blow.
Abstract: A wafering machine having a multiplicity of wire cutting blades supported by a bladehead reciprocally moving past a workpiece supported by a holder that rocks about an axis perpendicular to the wires at a frequency less than the reciprocation of the bladehead.

Abstract: An ultramicrotome diamond tool is provided with a diamond knife blade having first and second planar surfaces which intersect to define a cutting edge and a shank for holding the knife blade. In one embodiment of the ultramicrotome diamond tool the cutting edge of the blade is defined by the intersection of naturally occurring (111) and (100) crystal planes and is primarily usable in materials science and machine tool applications. In a second embodiment of the ultramicrotome diamond tool, the cutting edge of the blade is defined by the intersection of naturally occurring (320) and (111) crystal planes and is primarily usable in biological science applications to cut biological tissue or the like. The blade is usable to cut a material specimen that has a longitudinal axis and that is being advanced in a direction along its longitudinal axis toward the ultramicrotome tool. The blade is mounted on a shank having a longitudinal axis.
Abstract: A cutting element, for use on the cutting member of a variety of cutting machines, particularly for stone cutting machines. The cutting element includes a base member substantially permanently fixable to the cutting member, and a cap member selectively engageable with the base member. The cap member has hooks that mechanically lock the cap member to the base member, so removal of the cap member during cutting is resisted mechanically. The cap member can be moved laterally of the base member for removal; and, a fastener such as a rivet selectively holds the cap member against such lateral motion.
Abstract: There is described a method for manufacturing a spectacle lens for myopes the edge thickness of which may be considered as substantial, which comprises starting with a semi-machined product with a concave hollowing which extends to the edge or substantially to the edge of the lens, milling away about 40 to 51% of the lens edge thickness, and radiusing convexly thereafter the sharp angle between said concave hollowing and the plane-milled portion of the lens which surrounds said concave hollowing.
Abstract: Device for feeding work (U) to machine tool comprising a work table and an air float (14) in a water vessel (15) and connected with said table by a rod (12) so that said work is pushed up against the tool (WL) as working proceeds. In one embodiment, a manometer (19) for detecting air pressure in said buoy is so arranged that when detected air pressure is deviated from preset value, a signal generated therefrom may control pump-valve means (23, 24) for supplying water into said vessel (15). In another embodiment, a second rod (33) arranged to be in parallel to said first rod (12) to be vertically moved upward in a preset rate and a load cell (39) arranged between said two rods in such a way that when electrical resistance thereof is deviated from a preset value, a signal generated therefrom may control air pressure in said air float (14).
Abstract: A dressing-grinding process for electronically controlled grinding machines for plain or surface grinding of workpieces is described. In order to maintain the effective rough depth during the grinding process, while the roller RPM must be selective and the feed of the dressing roller against the grinding wheel must be continuous, the dressing roller carrier is continuously fed against the grinding wheel carrier in accordance with the functions ##EQU1## wherein is: v.sub.frd (t): feed speed of the dressing roller carrier slide (31) relative to the grinding wheel slidea.sub.ed (t): dressing feed per revolutionn.sub.s (t): grinding wheel revolutionsd.sub.s (t): grinding wheel diametert: current timev.sub.s : grinding wheel circumferential speed; for the described example of a straight grinding wheel it equals the grinding wheel speed v.sub.c. Abstract: A multi-function barrel finishing machine includes a central work processing section which is supported by a tiltable main spindle from horizontal to vertical or to inclined positions, and vice versa, the central work processing section including a turret rotatably supported by the main spindle and a plurality of barrel containers carried by the turret and which are capable of both axial rotation about their own axes, and orbital revolution about the main spindle. A single machine construction incorporates the various functions provided by the individual machines such as the horizontal-type high-speed centrifugal or planetary revolving barrel finishing machine, vertical-type high-speed centrifugal barrel finishing machine, horizontal-type rotating barrel finishing machine, and tiltable-type rotating barrel finishing machine. Those functions may be selected and performed singly or in any combination, depending upon the particular work processing requirements.
Abstract: A turbine blade holding device is disclosed for accurately holding a turbine blade relative to its stacking axis during grinding of the root form portion thereof. The device includes a fixed base and front and rear datum plates for supporting spaced sections of the air foil portion of the blade. A longitudinally extending pin is connected with the base and is designed to abut against the datum point of the blade. A clamping mechanism clamps the blade against the pin and the datum plates, with the front datum plate supporting the leading and trailing edges of the blade and the rear datum plate supporting the leading edge of the blade. The clamping mechanism includes an elongated clamp pivotally connected with the base and arranged along the fulcrum of the blade.
Abstract: The edge profile machine employs a centering station in which a photosensor measures a number of points on the periphery of a wafer so that the shape of the wafer and location of the geometric center can be determined in a computer. A rotatable head serves to position the geometric center of the wafer on a fixed axis and the wafer transferred to a grinding station with the geometric center located on the central axis of a rotating chuck. During grinding, a grinding wheel is moved in accordance with the differences between the detected shape of the wafer and a predetermined shape. The grinding wheel is moved on an axis perpendicular to an axis passing through the centering station and grinding station in accordance with signals received from the computer.
Abstract: The advance of a tool toward a workpiece is controlled with two acoustic transducers, one acting as a transmitter and the other as a receiver. The acoustic energy transmitted from the one to the other as the tool and the workpiece approach one another (this continuing until contact between the two elements) is detected and used to control a reduction in the speed of approach. The acoustic energy may be transmitted at a predetermined frequency, modulated or characterized in another manner.
Abstract: A center-opening saw blade having an inner sawing edge is spanned or tensioned to provide an accurate, high quality cut by apparatus including inner and outer clamping collars between which an outer peripheral edge region of the saw blade is clamped, a spanner ring having an inner edge and an outer centering heel, the clamping collars being tightly affixed to the spanner ring with the clamping rings positioned in the centering heel with the inner edge of the spanner ring engaging an inner region of the saw blade to impart an initial stress thereto. A form ring is axially slidably mounted within the clamping collars and is slidable to engage an intermediate portion of the saw blade between the outer peripheral edge region clamped between the clamping collars and the inner region engaged by the inner edge of the spanner ring to impart a fine adjustment stress to the saw blade.
Abstract: A rotating grinding or polishing device includes a number of grinding or polishing discs formed of two or more layers of segments radiating from a central retaining area having an edge which defines a central hole. In the central area, the segments are kept together by a heat-activatable string which also maintains the grinding or polishing disc in the form of a ring, whereby the disc has the required optimum stiffness/flexibility for obtaining an effective grinding or polishing finish so that even complex surfaces can be effectively ground or polished.

Abstract: Crystalline rods or blocks can be sawed into thin wafers by sawing the rod or block into a plurality of wafers that are connected to each other. The wafers can be connected by introducing a connecting agent after each sawing step, into the resulting cutting gaps. The wafers are separated only after the whole rod has been sawed with a two-blade internal-hole saw.

The apparatus further includes a writing device for scribing a band of magnetized zone on the magnetic sheet by means of a writing magnet on the free end of the first arm, a reading device for reading the contour line of the magnetized zone by means of hole elements on the second arm and a center distance changing device for changing the center distance between the wheel shaft and the lens shafts in response to changing of the configuration of the contour line. These devices are operatively associated with one another and operations of each of them are controlled by a control system.
Abstract: An apparatus for automatically causing a workpiece to engage a rotary tool. A pulse signal generated by rotating a reference workpiece is stored, and then a pulse signal generated by rotating a mounted workpiece is counted. The counted pulse signal and the stored pulse signal are compared, and when they coincide with each other, the workpiece is brought into engagement with the rotary tool. When the rotary tool is shifted, the stored pulse signal information is updated, and then a pulse signal generated by rotating a mounted workpiece is counted. If the updated stored pulse signal information land the counted pulse signal information are equal to each other, then the workpiece is taken into engagement with the rotary tool.
Abstract: A CNC grinding machine includes a base having a first plane surface which can be defined by two axes perpendicular with each other, a work station driven by a first servomechanism to be capable of moving on the first plane surface and rotating about a third axis perpendicular to the first plane surface, a grinding wheel driven by a second servomechanism to be capable of moving along a first line perpendicular to the first plane surface and rotating about a fourth axis perpendicular to a second plane surface having a normal line parallel to the first plane surface, a grinding wheel dresser for dressing the grinding wheel, a measuring probe driven by a third servomechanism to be capable of moving along a second line perpendicular to the first plane surface, a CNC system controlling the servomechanisms so that a work piece can be worked and measured according to instructions stored therein and a computer connected to the CNC system and capable of governing the instructions.
