  • Patent number: 11310067
Abstract: A broadband communication system aboard an aircraft includes a steerable antenna, a modem, and processing circuitry. The processing circuitry determines a region on the ground where sidelobes of the radiated signal power pattern are incident. A regulatory power flux density (PFD) envelope is determined. PFD generated by the sidelobes in the region on the ground is estimated based on the ESD pattern of the steerable antenna and the aircraft altitude, attitude, and location. The processing circuitry determines, based on the estimate of the PFD generated by the sidelobes in the region on the ground and based on the regulatory PFD envelope, a target ESD pattern for the steerable antenna. The processing circuitry further controls at least one of: 1) output power of the modem based on the target ESD pattern; and 2) bandwidth of the data traffic output by the modem based on the target ESD pattern.

  • Patent number: 11283499
Abstract: A method performed by a first communication device operating in a wireless communications network. The first communication device obtains a set of correspondences associating: i) each set (?i) of a plurality of sets of antenna weights (?1 . . . ?i) having been sent by a third communication device in response to having received a respective set (RSsi) of a plurality of sets of radio signals (RSs1 . . . RSsi) from a set of antenna ports in a second communication device, with ii) a respective direction of transmission (di) between the second communication device and the third communication device. The respective direction is relative to an orientation (?i) of the second communication device. The respective direction of transmission (di) is a selected direction of transmission (di,?i).
