Abstract: An improved hand tool comprising a generally L-shaped frame having two legs each formed with a pair of channels spaced apart by a central ridge, and having panels of transparent material, such as tempered glass or plastic, mounted in the channels with a quantity of a suitable liquid contained between the panels to define a level-indicating chamber extending substantially the entire length of each leg and having indicia positioned adjacent the ends of each of these chambers to provide information relating to incremental discrepancies.
Abstract: A drawing instrument for drawing straight or dashed lines including a scriber support assembly composed of a body part slidable in a groove on a ruler and an arm part which extends beyond either edge of the ruler and carries at its outer end a scriber. The inner end of the arm part is connected to the body part by a hinge and a follower carried by the arm part follows shapes such as undulations in grooves in the ruler between the side edge thereof and the hinge whereby the outer end of the arm part and the scriber are raised and lowered to make dashed lines. One groove can be flat whereby the scriber produces a continuous line.
Abstract: A screw thread measuring device capable of measuring the physical parameters of internally or externally threaded parts comprising a base and slidable platform. Measuring segments are mounted to the base and platform, respectively. Gage mounts to the base and contacts the platform with plunger. To measure an externally threaded part, the externally threaded part is placed between base mounted measuring segments and platform mounted segment. The measuring segments are biased together. Plunger of the gage correspondingly moves with the platform to measure the displacement of the platform with respect to the base. The distance the platform moves is read out on the dial of gage. To measure an internally threaded part, the measuring segments are replaced with measuring segments designed for internally threaded parts. The threaded parts are inserted into the internally threaded part and the platform is biased away from base mounted segment.
Abstract: A plumb device includes a direction determination unit suspended on an upper, movable, convexed portion of a universal joint. A lower, fixed, concaved portion of the movable joint is rigidly connected to a stand by means of a housing. The lower joint part has a lubricant supply line through which a lubricant can be introduced to a groove located on the upper joint part and positioned so as to be between the upper and lower joint parts.
Abstract: A three-dimensional drawing device comprising a transparent hollow globe, a powder material disposed within the globe which adheres to the inner surface of the globe, a scribe disposed within the globe which can be used to draw upon the inner surface of the globe by scraping off the powder material, and controls for manipulating the scribe. The device can be used to form three-dimensional sketches and is primarily intended for use as a teaching aid and toy.

Abstract: A gradient indicator has a clinometer arranged on a motor-driven turntable allows reversible measurements to be taken and supports the gradient indicator in precisely reproducible positions on bearing faces of the base in the various measurement positions. In addition, the turntable can tilt by a precisely defined angle in the direction of two diametrically opposed calibration axes. Movement of the turntable and evaluation of the measurement results are ensured by a microprocessor. Successive reversible measurements in the measurement and calibration axes allow automatic sensing of measurement values to be obtained with high and constant measurement precision, large measurement range and automatic calibration of the zero-point, scaling factor and gravity g.
Abstract: A stylus counterbalancing mechanism for a probe includes a stylus support member suspended on a resilient suspension system and connected to a spring which provides a force to counterbalance the weight of the stylus. The spring is connected to one end of a plate which is capable of sliding up and down a rod but is locked in position due to the clockwise moment produced by the spring force. The plate is unlocked from its position, when required, by movement of an actuating member. The actuating member is slidable up and down the rod and has bearing areas arranged to provide an anti-clockwise moment to the plate to unlock it and to move it along the rod to increase or decrease the spring force as required.In the probe, the actuating member includes a projection extending through the probe housing to be operable from the outside either manually or by the co-ordinate positioning machine, the machine being programmed to move the probe to engage the projection with a fixed ledge on the machine.
Abstract: A template structure defined as a template plate, including a front edge, a rear edge, and intermediate first and second slots arranged in a Parallel relationship are defined by the template plate. The first slot includes a first slot rear edge spaced from and parallel a first slot front edge, with the second slot including a second slot rear edge spaced from and parallel the second slot front edge. The first slot is positioned adjacent the rear edge, with the second slot positioned adjacent the front edge of the organization. The front edge permits severing of a pants leg therealong, wherein the front edge is spaced from the second slot rear edge a first length, wherein a respective second length is defined between the second slot rear edge and the first slot rear edge, with a third length defined between the first slot rear edge and the rear edge of the template plate.
Abstract: A method and system for use in the checking and/or correction of alignment of a vehicle frame, body and various parts thereof which utilize an energy beam generator to direct one or more beams, such as a laser beam, at multiple targets which may be mounted on the vehicle frame, body or specific parts thereof, to establish a horizontal reference centerline and a vertical reference datum line from and/or to which alignment measurements may be made. Such method and system are enhanced by the use of either a unidirectional or sweeping beam to establish a centerline and a sweeping beam to establish a datum line. The beam generating means and targets preferably are located within the confines of a vehicle frame or body with the centerline defining beam and target being centered between undamaged portions of the same vehicle parts from which or to which measurements are to be made.
Abstract: A method for checking dimensions of parts foresees the use of a gauging head (2) with at least a movable feeler (14) that contacts the surface (6) of the part (4) to be checked and a transducer (20) that provides a signal responsive to the position of the feeler (14). The checking, that is performed dynamically in correspondence with one or more checking locations, involves mutual movements between the head (2) and the part (4) and a sliding between the movable feeler (14) and the surface (6).In order to eliminate malfunctions introduced by frictional forces arising during the sliding, the method includes performing two scanning motions in correspondence with each checking location, according to two opposite directions, detecting values of the signal of the transducer (20) for each scanning motion, and averaging the detected values to obtain a value representative of the dimension to be checked, or of its deviation from a nominal value.
Abstract: A tool and method for making a longitudinal mark on, or cut through, a piece of siding. The tool includes an upper plate portion and a lower plate portion, with a step therebetween, which is adapted to fit onto a piece of siding having an upper panel and a lower panel, with a ridge therebetween. The upper and lower plate portions each have a series of openings in predetermined locations along the length of the tool. The tool is used by engaging the step with the ridge of the piece of siding, such that the upper plate portion of the tool is located against the upper panel of the siding and the lower plate portion of the tool against the bottom panel of the siding. A pencil is placed through a selected one of the openings, and the tool and pencil are then moved along the siding while maintaining the step in engagement with the ridge. The ridge of the siding is thus used as a guide in making a longitudinal mark on the siding.
Abstract: A tile template comprises first and second opposed arms and third and fourth opposed arms disposed at right angles to the first and second opposed arms, the first and second arms having substantially equal lengths; and the third arm having a length of approximately 1/2 inch and being relatively short in comparison to the first, second, and fourth arms. The first and second arms define a straight edge having a middle, wherein the third and fourth arms are disposed opposite each other at the middle of the straight edge. Each of the arms has a top portion and a bottom portion, the top portions all having a first width, the bottom portions all having a second width, and the first width being greater than the second width. The arms are of uniform, equal height, without projections or indentations; and each of the arms has substantially planar top and bottom surfaces, the top surfaces being coplanar with each other and the bottom surfaces being coplanar with each other.
Abstract: A sight is shown on an archery bow with the sight formed from a light collecting and conducting plastic. A bead of the sight is formed by a face located on end segment at one end of an elongate, tapered main member. The main member has a relatively large, light collecting surface area to assure bead illumination in low light conditions. The light waves collected by the main member are internally conducted by the sight formed from a transparent plastic with a fluorescent dye dispersed therein. One form of sight utilizes mechanical components for attachment to a bow while a modified form forms such components from the plastic material.
Abstract: An apparatus having a support plate mounted to a grip portion of a bow member, wherein the support plate includes a plurality of peep sights mounted thereon, each peep sight arranged in an associated slot, and each peep sight associated with various elevational hinges to permit sequential firing of an arrow at various elevational sights without recourse to continuous sight changes of the apparatus.
Abstract: A machine guard safety gauge is a single piece made up of a series of stepped cylinders having diameters equal to a maximum safe opening size from a hazard zone of a machine at corresponding combined lengths from a tip portion of the gauge. The centerlines of the cylinders share a common vertical plane and the cylinders share a common bottom edge. This design provides three dimensional structural stability and strength which allows the gauge to be used for both checking and setting up machine guards. A tapered tip design allows checking the positioning of abrasive wheel adjustable tool rests, tongue guards, and "nip points" in general.
Abstract: An electric motor brush alignment tool for aligning brushes to 180.degree. orientation from each other, for motors having brush holding brackets which include hollow channels. The brushes are positioned at inner ends of the hollow channels. The tool includes pin members connected to jaws that can be translated relative to one another; to the jaws are connected to a base. The base provides guidance and support from the jaws which allow translation of the pin members into the brush holding brackets. The jaws are then secured to the base which presents the pins in 180.degree. rigid alignment to in turn provide alignment of the brush holding brackets.
Abstract: The measuring tool includes a pair of measuring sections pivotally hinged one to the other. Each section includes a flat plate mounted for pivotal movement about an axis normal to the hinge axis. Frictional locking means lock each plate in adjusted pivotal positions about its axis. A frictional locking means also locks the pivoted sections one to the other in adjusted positions about the hinge axis. The plates contain measuring indicia and are slidable linearly in a direction parallel to the axis about which the plates are pivoted.
Abstract: A lighted level including a frame having parallel working surfaces and an inner connecting web having an aperture with a pair of notches for supporting a liquid-containing vial. The level includes a light emitting diode for illuminating the vial. The level is constructed for automatic drop-in assembly of each of the component parts, including a printed circuit board containing the lighting circuitry, without requiring wires, screws, pins, pegs or bolts.

Abstract: A gauge which is constructed to measure a thread of varying pitch, and which includes a threaded gauge element adapted to be screwed into engagement with the thread of varying pitch and to a point at which the threads have a light binding relationship resisting further advancement of the threads together, in combination with a dial indicator adapted to indicate the position at which the binding of the threads occurs as a measurement of the thread of varying pitch. The device may include a second element which is shiftable axially relative to the threaded gauge element to a position limited by engagement with the part containing the thread of varying pitch, with the dial indicator being responsive to and adapted to indicate the relative positioning of the two elements.
Abstract: A method and device (1) for cutting a sealing band (4) on a reel (2) of web material, in which the reel (2), arranged on a support (8) and coupled to a motorized unwinding device (7), is rotated about its axis (10) until the end edge (6) of the initial turn (5) of the reel (2) passes in front of a sensor (17), which causes the motorized unwinding device (7) to move the edge (6) of the initial turn (5) of the reel (2) towards a cutting member (21) carried by the support (8) and comprising two appendices (22) which are perpendicular to the axis (10) of rotation of the reel (2) and are joined together by a V-shaped concave cutting edge (23); the appendices (22) of the cutting member (21) are elastically urged into contact with the outer periphery (11) of the reel (2), to engage below the free edge (6) of the initial turn (5) from opposite sides of the band (4), and transversely cut the band (4).
