  • Patent number: 9094020
Abstract: An integrated circuit comprises a circuit module, a first function circuit, and a second function circuit. The first function circuit is configured to be operational in response to a first type logic signal at a first pin and the second function circuit is configured to be operational in response to a second type logic signal at the first pin. The type of logic signal at the first pin is determined by the circuit module. Based on the determined type of logic signal, the circuit module is configured to activate the appropriate function circuit and provide function related signaling for operation at a second pin. The circuit module allows the pins of the integrated circuit to be shared between the first and second function circuits, thus minimizing the number of pins required for multi-functional circuits on the integrated circuit.

  • Patent number: 9083573
Abstract: An embodiment of a transmitter includes detection, generating, and transmission stages. The detection stage is configured to detect a first signal having a first component that includes a frequency, and the generating stage is configured to generate a data component that includes approximately the frequency in response to the detection of the first signal. The transmission stage is configured to transmit a second signal having the data component while the detection stage is detecting the first signal. For example, two or more such transmitters (e.g., two or more smart phones) may simultaneously transmit OFDM signals on the same subcarrier frequencies and over the same channel space. By allowing the simultaneous transmission of multiple signals on the same frequencies and over the same channel space, such a transmitter may increase the effective bandwidth of the channel space, and thus may allow more devices to simultaneously share the same channel space.

  • Patent number: 9077506
Abstract: A radio communication device capable of randomizing both inter-cell interference and intra-cell interference. In this device, a spreading section (214) primarily spreads a response signal in a ZAC sequence set by a control unit (209). A spreading section (217) secondarily spreads the primarily spread response signal in a block-wise spreading code sequence set by the control unit (209). The control unit (209) controls the cyclic shift amount of the ZAC sequence used for the primary spreading in the spreading section (214) and the block-wise spreading code sequence used for the secondary spreading in the spreading section (217) according to a set hopping pattern. The hopping pattern set by the control unit (209) is made up of two hierarchies. An LB-based hopping pattern different for each cell is defined in the first hierarchy in order to randomize the inter-cell interference.

  • Patent number: 9071342
Abstract: In accordance with the teachings described herein, system and methods are provided for a GPS acquisition correlation scheme with a reduced memory requirement. An example system may include a memory, a local PRN code generator, correlators, adder trees, an accumulator, and an output memory. The memory may be used to store an input PRN code. The local PRN code generator generates a replica PRN code and outputs a replica PRN code. The local PRN code generator may also shift the replica PRN code for each output epoch. One or more correlators receive the input PRN code and the replica PRN code and compare a bit of the input PRN code to a bit of the replica PRN code and generates a comparison. The adder trees add the comparisons and generate a comparison output. An accumulator accumulates the comparison output and outputs an accumulated output to an output memory.

  • Patent number: 9036723
Abstract: A training symbol with two identical halves as well as a pilot-tone at a center frequency is used for both timing synchronization and carrier frequency offset estimation. A timing synchronization is achieved by finding a peak of a cross-correlation function of the two halves in the first symbol. A fraction part of the frequency offset FO is then calculated from a phase difference between the two halves of the first training symbol. Then, the received signal is compensated for the fraction part of FO, and, an integer part of the FO is obtained by counting the shifted positions of the pilot-tone peak in the frequency domain.

  • Patent number: 9025640
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for intra-PIT signal decomposition of a signal received with RF front end hardware. The method begins by aligning a signal received by RF front end hardware into integer multiples of a duration of a pseudorandom noise code sequence. A search grid is computed based on an integer multiple of the aligned signal. A plurality of initial ray parameters associated with the computed search grid is coarsely estimated. Using the coarsely estimated plurality of initial ray parameters, a fine estimation of the plurality of initial ray parameters is initiated utilizing stochastic search and optimization techniques. A stopping criteria statistic is computed by comparing a peak power of the search grid with a noise power present in the search grid. Finally, in response to determining the stopping criteria statistic being less than a stopping criteria threshold, processing a next integer multiple of the aligned signal.

  • Patent number: 9020050
Abstract: In an embodiment, a channel estimator includes first and second stages. The first stage is operable to generate a respective one-dimensional array of first channel-estimation coefficients for each communication path of a communication channel, and the second stage is operable to generate a multi-dimensional array of second channel-estimation coefficients in response to the first channel-estimation coefficients. For example, such a channel estimator may estimate the response of a channel over which propagates an orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexed (OFDM) signal that suffers from inter-carrier interference (ICI) due to Doppler spread. Such a channel estimator may estimate the channel response more efficiently, and with a simpler algorithm, than conventional channel estimators.

  • Patent number: 8989290
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and arrangements in a communication system for Multi User Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO) signaling via Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) antennas between a base station and one of a plurality of mobile terminals supporting both Single User and Multi User Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (SU-MIMO and MU-MIMO) signaling modes. Switching between the modes is supported in the system and the modes have partly shared signaling. SU-MIMO mode signaling which is redundant, i.e. not needed, for MU-MIMO mode signaling is identified. Bits, i.e. data bits, of the identified redundant signaling is re-interpreted or re-defined to comprise signaling information associated with MU-MIMO mode. The signaling information associated with MU-MIMO mode is signaled to the mobile terminal by using the reinterpreted redundant bits.
