  • Patent number: 8963984
Abstract: Quick Response barcodes (“QR Codes”) are used for videoconferencing between a peripheral device and a videoconferencing system, which can include a conferencing server and/or a videoconferencing unit. Conferencing related QR codes are embedded within video frames and are identified by either a peripheral device or a videoconferencing unit. Once identified, the device or unit acts according to the information provided by the QR code. The QR codes enables the peripheral device, videoconferencing unit, and conferencing server to operation in conjunction with one another even though one or more of the device may not share a compatible operation platform that would allow for direct communication of requests and responses.

  • Patent number: 8922616
Abstract: System and method for user interfaces using remote control devices. More specifically, these user interfaces may be particularly useful for providing an intuitive and user friendly interaction between a user and a device or application using a display, e.g., at a “10 foot” interaction level. The user interfaces may be specifically designed for interaction using a simple remote control device having a limited number of inputs. For example, the simple remote control may include directional inputs (e.g., up, down, left, right), a confirmation input (e.g., ok), and possibly a mute input. These user interfaces may allow a user to quickly browse and filter lists of items, efficiently provide input (e.g., having multiple data types), customize directional and/or mute functionality of the remote control, perform camera control (e.g., for videoconferencing), etc.

  • Patent number: 8902277
Abstract: A first index corresponding to a first conversation operation and a second index corresponding to a second conversation operation are selectably displayed on a screen of a video output device. When a communicator receives a conversation request from another device, a controller determines whether the first index or the second index is selected on the screen or whether an operating member is operated. If the first index is selected, the controller performs the first conversation operation. If the second index is selected, the controller performs the second conversation operation. If the operating member is operated, the controller performs the second conversation operation.

  • Patent number: 8890930
Abstract: The present invention provides a multi-channel video communication system which includes a scalable video codec, a bit-stream truncating module, a network module and a multi-channel bit-stream truncating control module. The scalable video codec encodes a video source to generate a scalable original video bit-stream. The bit-stream truncating module is set between the scalable video codec and the network module, truncates the original video bit-stream to obtain a final video bit-stream and sends the final video bit-stream to the remote client device through the network module. The multi-channel bit-stream truncating control module is connected with the bit-stream truncating module, calculates a filter parameter for each bit-stream truncating unit in the bit-stream truncating module based on received device capabilities and network conditions of the remote client device. The present invention also provides a multi-channel video communication method in the above multi-channel video communication system.

  • Patent number: 8890929
Abstract: A conference system provides metadata about the display of a multimedia stream to allow communication endpoints to control the format of a video conference. A multipoint control unit (MCU) can provide metadata that describes the display layout and other information about the multimedia stream. After setting up the conference, the MCU can generate a layout description in eXstensible Markup Language (XML) that can be sent to and understood by the communication endpoints. The communication endpoints can read and interpret the XML metadata to determine how the display layout is configured. If desired by the user, the communication endpoint can change the display layout or other multimedia stream function based on the received metadata.
