    Abstract: An external wound dressing retainer includes a frame having an opening substantially surrounded by the frame, wherein the opening is bounded by a plurality of edges, wherein the frame includes a first side and a second side including an adhesive for adherence to skin of a patient; a flap having a plurality of edges, wherein the dimensions of the flap substantially correspond to the dimensions of the opening, and the flap is attached to the frame via a corresponding edge of the flap and the frame; and a sealing mechanism for releasably engaging non-attached edges of the flap to corresponding non-attached edges of the frame. The sealing mechanism is a zipper arrangement that includes complementary interlocking first and second grooves situated on the non-attached edges of the flap and the frame, respectively, further comprising a sliding element adapted to sealably join the first groove to the second groove.

    Abstract: A drug administration system includes a cradle attached about an intravenous injection port having a flange extending therefrom. The cradle supports first drug administration information in the nature of machine and human readable code, for example, barcode. A syringe including a needle includes a flange extending from the syringe. The syringe supports second drug administration information in machine and/or human readable form. A scanner module is constructed to slidably receive the flange of the cradle and syringe whereby the syringe needle is aligned with the intravenous injection port. The module may be provided with an electronic scanning system for identifying the first and second drug administration information, as well as determining the amount of the drug being administered from the syringe to the injection port by monitoring movement of the syringe plunger. The information and data may be stored within the module for uploading to a remote location.

    Abstract: A retracting eye drape assembly is disclosed for use around a patient's eye to seclude and seal off the operative field during eye surgery. The drape assembly includes a retraction member connected to the drape and configured to engage the patient's eyelid, an extension member connected to the retraction member or to the drape and configured to substantially enclose the patient's eyelid, and a retraction flap configured to secure the patient's eyelid in a substantially retracted position. A method of applying an eye drape assembly is disclosed. After application of the drape to the patient's face, and while the patient's eyelid is closed, the patient's eyelid is engaged by a retraction member connected to the drape and retracted. While retracted, the patient's eyelid is substantially enclosed to seclude the eyelid and eyelashes from the operational area. The secluded eyelid and eyelashes are then secured in a retracted position.

The outer surface of the polyester fiber sheet is heat treated to hinder individual fibers from extending out of the surface and thereby produce a glazed effect.
