  • Patent number: 9374215
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide communications between local and remote devices having low-frequency (LF) and high-frequency (HF) circuits. As may be implemented in accordance with one or more embodiments, the local device transmits an LF signal to the remote device, which synchronizes its clock based on the LF signal. Another LF signal is communicated from the local device to the remote device using a reduced quality factor, which can be implemented to facilitate synchronization. The clock is resynchronized based on the second LF signal and used to transmit an HF signal with a time delay. The local device synchronizes its clock based on the HF signal, and transmits another HF signal to the remote device using the clock and another time delay. The remote device re-synchronizes its clock based on the second HF signal while accounting for a trip time for communicating the first and/or second HF signals.

  • Patent number: 9363778
Abstract: The present invention relates to a random access process in a cellular communications system and to a user equipment (UE) and a NodeB adapted for performing the process. A problem with the random access is that the time slot for receiving a random access request (RA-request) has a long unused guard portion. When the UE transmits the RA-request, the distance to the receiving NodeB is unknown, and the purpose of the guard portion is to accommodate for propagation delay. The disadvantage is the inefficient use of the random access channel which results in long delays for UEs to access the network. The present invention solves the problem with a method in which the UE position is determined and the distance and propagation delay between the UE and NodeB is calculated before the transmission of the RA-request, and the timing of the transmission is advanced by the propagation delay.

  • Patent number: 9357586
Abstract: In a communication network (400), wireless access points (300) utilize one or more agents (302, 306) to support the operating needs of corresponding mobile stations. Pursuant to one approach, the agent supports translation of the mobile station's end-to-end protocol-based messages to Internet Protocol-based messages that are readily ported through an Internet Protocol-friendly communication system infrastructure that preferably eschews the use of network elements that rely upon unique and/or proprietary non-Internet Protocol interfaces. Pursuant to another approach the wireless access point is able to interact on a peer-to-peer basis with other wireless access points in order to facilitate, for example, handovers and other mobility management tasks.

The MAC-hs receives the information related to the wireless resource of the MBMS transport channel from the MAC-m. The MAC-hs calculates a wireless resource which can be used applied to data of a HSDPA transport channel at the transmission timing with using the information related to the wireless resource of the MBMS transport channel and a wireless resource to which the HSDPA transport channel is allocated.

  • Patent number: 9215660
Abstract: On the mobile communication terminal 100 side, when the VOIP communication application stored in the storage unit 104 is activated in accordance with an instruction from the user (step S101), the application activation judging unit 107a judges that the VOIP communication application has been activated. Upon the judgment, the control unit 107 selects a cycle (for example, 1.152 seconds: code F10) that is shorter than 5.152 seconds, generates an EISP signal based on the selection, and transmits the generated EISP signal to the base station 200 via the transmission unit 102 (step S102). After this, upon receiving an ACK signal, the control unit 107 starts to activate the reception unit 103 at the cycle of 1.152 seconds to receive the report signal at the cycle of 1.152 seconds (step S105).
