Abstract: Provided are methods by which multiple devices self-form a communication network and self-coordinate their access to communication media. In these methods, an individual node maintains its knowledge of other nodes in its vicinity and knowledge of those nodes' scheduled activities to an adequate degree of details. Such knowledge can be obtained by receiving control signals from nodes that are within the range of wireless communication. Examples of such knowledge include the identities of the nodes in the vicinity, the nodes' scheduled times of control message transmission and/or reception, the nodes' scheduled times of application data transmission and/or reception, etc. Such knowledge can be embodied in the form of a memory module of a computing device.

  • Patent number: 9332037
Abstract: According to at least one embodiment of the invention, a protocol for managing redundant signaling links to form a reliable signaling connection is provided. The protocol has an initialization phase, in which the availability of signaling links is determined and an available signaling link is selected and activated, followed by an operational phase in which the activated link is used for sending signaling messages for a higher-level protocol. During the operational phase both links are monitored for availability using a query and reply technique. Should either link fail, a status message is sent to the remaining available link along with an activity switchover being performed, as required, depending on whether the failed link was the active link.

  • Patent number: 9332327
Abstract: A system for scaling vectored DSLAM deployments has a DSLAM interfaced with a cross-connect apparatus. The DSLAM receives POTS signals from at least one bridge connection assembly. When a DSLAM is added at the cross-connect facility, at least one connector of the bridge connection assembly is disconnected from an existing DSLAM and is interfaced with the newly-added DSLAM. By moving the connector to the newly-added DSLAM, a batch of downstream distribution pairs (which are preferably bound by a single distribution cable) are effectively moved from the existing DSLAM to the new DSLAM without having to reconfigure the jumpers of the cross-connect apparatus. Accordingly, it is possible to scale the cross-connect facility to any number of vectored DSLAMs while limiting vector group sizes, thereby reducing the complexity of vectoring operations, without having to perform complex reconfigurations of the cross-connect apparatus.

  • Patent number: 9319303
Abstract: Methods, apparatus and data structures are provided for managing multicast IP flows. According to one embodiment, a router identifies active multicast IP sessions. A data structure is maintained by the router that contains information regarding the active multicast IP sessions and includes multiple pairs of a source field and a group field ({S, G} pairs), a first pointer associated with each of the {S,G} pairs and a set of slots. Each of the {S, G} pairs defines an active multicast IP session. The source field defines a source of a multicast transmission of the multicast IP session and the group field defines a group corresponding to the multicast IP session. The first pointer points to a dynamically allocated set of outbound interface (OIF) blocks. Each slot has stored therein a second pointer to a transmit control block (TCB) data structure that services users participating in the multicast IP session.

Abstract: Securely joining devices to a mesh network using Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) is described. A secure commissioning session is established between a joiner device and a commissioning device of the mesh network, in response to a joiner router receiving a DTLS-ClientHello message from the joining device, which is requesting to join the mesh network, and relaying the received message, encapsulated in a DTLS Relay Receive Notification message, to the commissioning device. The commissioning device transmits commissioning messages to the joining device over the secure session to enable the joining device to join the mesh network. The joiner router receives an indication from the commissioning device, that the joining device is to be entrusted to receive network credentials for the mesh network, and receives a key to securely transmit the network credentials from the joiner router to the joining device to complete commissioning the joining device to the mesh network.

  • Patent number: 9253041
Abstract: In one embodiment, techniques are provided to generate a Border Gateway Protocol-Link State (BGP-LS) advertisement message comprising information configured to indicate topological information associated with a Layer 0 (L0) network, where the topological information includes information for connectivity within the L0 network that is available to a Layer 3 (L3) network. The advertisement message is sent to a node in the L3 network. The message sent from the L0 network is received at the node in the L3 network. The topological information in the message is analyzed in order to determine connections available to the L3 network, yet within the L0 network. A connection request is sent from the node in the L3 network to the L0 network and connections between the nodes in L3 network are established using available connections in the L0 network.
