  • Patent number: 9007971
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for energy management are provided. In one embodiment based on expected activity in one or more nodes in a network, processing capabilities in the network may be matched with expected processing loads. Processing loads in a network node may be determined based on deep packet inspection of traffic transmitted/received by the node, inspection of data exchanged between subsystems in the node, a state of an operating system running in the node, data processed or waiting to be processed in the node, information exchanged between an energy management entity in the node and an energy management entity in one or more other nodes, computing tasks delegated to the node, and/or instructions transmitted along with a computing task delegated to the node.

  • Patent number: 9007945
Abstract: A network switch includes a service registration database and a service discovery engine that is coupled to the service registration database. The service discovery engine receives a first service registration over a network from a first service included on a first service device and, in response, stores the first service registration in the service registration database. The service discovery engine then receives a multicast service discovery message over the network from a target device. The service discovery message includes a service identification. The service discovery engine then determines that the service identification is associated with the first service registration stored in the service registration database and, in response, sends a unicast service communication message over the network to the target device. The service communication message includes communication information for the first service.

  • Patent number: 9001648
Abstract: A method implemented by an apparatus for providing spare capacity allocation (SCA) for dual link failures in a network. The SCA scheme computes the SCA for each of a plurality of flows in the network for a plurality of primary backup paths corresponding to a plurality of disjoint working paths for the flows using a first integer linear programming (ILP) model. The SCA scheme further computes the SCA for each of the flows for a plurality of secondary backup paths corresponding to the disjoint working paths and the primary backup paths using a second ILP model and the computed spare capacity information for the primary backup paths. The SCA scheme further aggregates the computed SCA for the primary backup paths and the secondary backup paths for all the flows.

  • Patent number: 8995458
Abstract: A networking device reduces delay jitter of a plurality of packets passing through the networking device. The networking device includes an input interface that receives a first packet, a packet memory that stores the first packet, a timestamp module, an egress module, and an output interface. The timestamp module generates a first timestamp corresponding to when the first packet was received. The egress module stores a first output time corresponding to the first packet. The first output time is a sum of the first timestamp and a fixed time interval. The fixed time interval is a difference between an amount of time required to receive a maximum-sized packet and an amount of time required to receive a minimum-sized packet. The output interface is configured to transmit the first packet to a destination networking device in response to a current timestamp being greater than or equal to the first output time.

  • Patent number: 8964716
Abstract: A method of transmitting an RF signal over a wireless communication network is provided. The method comprises determining a respective weighting factor for each of a plurality of digital signals each corresponding to a respective channel, the weighting factors weighting the digital signals to produce a composite signal intended for transmission as an RF signal via a power amplifier. The method further comprises executing instructions on a processor to dynamically calculate a metric related to the non-linearity of the power amplifier's transfer characteristics for the composite signal using the determined weighting factors. The method further comprises supplying to the power amplifier a signal for transmission as an RF signal and amplifying the signal for transmission at the power amplifier to transmit an RF signal over the wireless communication network via at least one antenna. The method further comprises controlling the transmission based on the metric related to the amplifier non-linearity.

  • Patent number: 8964539
Abstract: According to the teachings presented herein, a base station implements active queue management (AQM) for uplink transmissions from user equipment (UE), such as a mobile terminal. The base station, e.g., an eNodeB in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, uses buffer status reports, for example, to estimate packet delays for packets in the UE's uplink transmit buffer. In one embodiment, a (base station) method of AQM for the uplink includes estimating at least one of a transmit buffer size and a transmit buffer queuing delay for a UE, and selectively dropping or congestion-marking packets received at the base station from the UE. The selective dropping or marking is based on the estimated transmit buffer size and/or the estimated transmit buffer queuing delay.

  • Patent number: 8953513
Abstract: Methods, apparatus and data structures are provided for managing multicast IP flows. According to one embodiment, active multicast IP sessions are identified by a router. A data structure is maintained by the router and contains therein information regarding the multicast sessions, including a first pointer for each of the multicast sessions, at least one chain of one or more blocks of second pointers and one or more transmit control blocks (TCBs). Each first pointer points to a chain of one or more blocks of second pointers. Each second pointer corresponds to an outbound interface (OIF) participating in the multicast session and identifies a number of times packets associated with the multicast session are to be replicated. The TCBs have stored therein control information to process or route packets. Each second pointer points to a TCB that identifies an OIF of the router through which packets are to be transmitted.

  • Patent number: 8934481
Abstract: The present invention provides a solution to maximize the chance of completion for an ISUP to SIP direction call by enabling a bigger factor for converting ISUP hop counter to SIP Max-Forwards value than the reverse direction thus enabling more hops in the SIP network. Enabling a bigger factor for ISUP to SIP direction can cause loops without special considerations. This invention provides an algorithm that prevents a “loop condition” that can arise at the interface boundary of two telephone networks, known by their standard names 1SUP and SIP networks. The present invention solves the “loop condition” problem by adjusting the Hop Counter and Max-Forward parameter values in a predetermined manner such that the adjusted parameter values break the cycle of providing the same parameter values between networks at the network boundary for an uncompleted connection, or break an endless “loop condition”.
