  • Patent number: 5287779
Abstract: A radial saw with safety guards and barriers for rip cutting and cross cutting of workpieces is disclosed. The radial saw includes a motor driven saw blade that is mounted on the supporting arm which overhangs a worktable. The motor driven saw blade is movable relative to a worktable mounted rip fence to enable the motor driven saw blade to be operated for rip cutting workpieces longitudinally along the length of the rip fence and for cross cutting workpieces transverse to the rip fence. An upper blade guard is mounted in fixed position relative to a yoke depending from the supporting arm for covering approximately an upper half of the motor driven saw blade. A lower blade guard depends from the upper blade guard and substantially covers approximately the lower half of the motor driven saw blade when resting on the worktable.

  • Patent number: 5287786
Abstract: A portable electric cutting and scoring saw for use on laminated or veneer products is disclosed. The scoring saw is disposed in front of the cutting saw and turns in the opposite direction. The saw is designed primarily for the craftsman cabinet maker where the use of large industrial bench saws is not feasible. In one embodiment, the scoring saw cuts at a fixed depth and the cutting saw depth of cut can be varied by changing the blade with one of a different diameter. In another embodiment, the cutting and scoring saw depth of cut and angle of cut can be adjusted simultaneously with depth and tilt adjustments. In addition, in this embodiment, the saw motor can be easily removed and replaced with one of different horsepower and R.P.M. In yet another embodiment the electric motor has a battery power-pack attached thereto that can be readily recharged. The battery power-pack makes the portable electric cutting and scoring saw completely self contained.

  • Patent number: 5282563
Abstract: A floss dispenser according to one embodiment has a base with a spool housing provided on one end thereof and a cutting member provided on the other end. The spool housing holds a spool of dental floss and dispenses an exposed portion of floss through an output port above the base. The cutting member has a friction element (which includes a blade for cutting the floss) positioned on an upper end thereof across from the output port. The friction element holds a distal end of the exposed portion of floss a spaced distance from the output port so that the exposed portion of floss extends above the base and through a gap region between the output port and the cutting member. The gap region is sized such that a user can grasp the exposed portion of floss without contacting any part of the floss dispenser. In this manner, the user avoids contaminating the floss dispenser.

  • Patent number: 5282404
Abstract: A microtome for cutting thin sample sections utilizes an electrical contact or sole plate for guiding the section cutting knife during sectioning. The sole plate floats across the surface of the sample thereby ensuring that uniformly thin sections are cut regardless of movement of the sample or expansion or contraction thereof. An electrical contact may be used to detect and reference contact between the sample surface and the section cutting knife. After contact between the sample surface and section cutting knife is referenced, the relative position between the sample surface and section cutting knife may be adjusted to achieve a desired section thinness.

  • Patent number: 5280741
Abstract: A dispenser for a quantity of a retraction cord where the cord is impregnated with a medicinal substance. The outer free end of the cord is conducted through an outlet hole formed within a cover which closes the access opening into the internal chamber of the housing where the cord stored. A lid is mounted on the cover with this lid including a cutting blade. This lid is movable between an open and a closed position and when in the open position the free outer end of the cord can be pulled from the dispenser a desired amount. As the lid is closed, the cutting blade severs the cord permitting the severed strand of the cord to be utilized. The remaining cord within the dispenser is closed to the ambient thereby keeping the stored cord in the dispenser from contamination.

  • Patent number: 5279196
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting stacked sheet-like material has a table surface which includes an entry zone for receiving the material to be cut, a working zone above which a cutting blade and press beam are located, as well as an exit zone for receiving the material after it is cut. The exit zone comprises a first zonal area adjacent to the working zone and a second zonal area adjacent to the first zonal area, and a first straightedge arranged below the exit zone in the area of a parting surface of the two zonal areas. The second zonal area can be lifted from an initial position where it forms a plane with the first zonal area and the first straightedge can be lifted and moved into a working position with the first zonal area. The exit zone can be moved as a whole perpendicular to the cutting plane to form a gap between the exit zone and the working zone.

  • Patent number: 5279195
Abstract: An apparatus for continuously transporting, separating, and changing the path of webs in machines for processing webs prior to further processing are disclosed. A web consisting of at least one ribbon of material is conveyed by a pair of nip rollers arranged in a first transport path. When it is desired to separate and convey the web, for example when the web is of insufficient quality, a separating flap pivotally mounted on a first rotary axis located above the first transport path pivots downward cutting and directing the web to a second transport path. A blade flap pivotally mounted on a second rotary axis located below the first transport path opens and closes the transport path to the web. When the blade flap is in the closed position it bridges a gap between a lower guide and a guide section to allow the conveyance of a web through the first transport path.

  • Patent number: 5277092
Abstract: A sheet cutting apparatus comprising a sheet feeding table, a cutting table and a sheet take-up table. Air lines, filters in the lines and air pumps draw air from the cutting table to collect any dust, etc. The air passes through filters, then to the blowers and from the blowers air is directed outwardly to the sheet feeding table and take-up table which lifts the material from the table. First and second pressure sensors are provided to detect the pressure to the blower and when a pressure difference exceeds a specific level an alarm is sounded to provide a warning. Then the filters can be cleaned.

  • Patent number: 5277093
Abstract: A sheet cutting apparatus comprising a sheet feeding table, a cutting table and a take-up table. A blower draws air from the cutting table through filters and also blows air to each of the sheet feeding tables and sheet take-up tables. Sensors are provided to detect air pressure and if a difference in air pressure of a specific level is detected an alarm is sounded. The blower is reversible so that air can be blown through the filters and switching means is provided to switch the reversed air away from the cutting table. Thus, the filters can be cleaned after a certain amount of dust, etc., has been collected.
