  • Patent number: 10408176
Abstract: A fuel injector includes control valve for controlling fuel pressure in a control chamber. The control valve includes a valve seat; and a valve member having a valve face for cooperating with the valve seat to control fuel pressure in the control chamber. A return line is provided for returning fuel from the control chamber. An armature connected to the valve member and an actuator is provided for actuating the armature. The armature is disposed in an armature chamber. A deflector is provided in the armature chamber to form a first sub-chamber and a second sub-chamber. The first and second sub-chambers are in fluid communication with each other via a first aperture. A pressure differential is established between the first and second sub-chambers when the valve face lifts from the valve seat promoting the flow of fuel from the second sub-chamber into the first sub-chamber through the first aperture.

  • Patent number: 10408171
Abstract: A method of cleaning an EGR valve operatively connected to an exhaust flow from an engine includes determining when cleaning is required, and when cleaning is required, operating the engine in a high temperature mode in which the temperature of exhaust gas exiting the engine is increased while producing a flow of exhaust gas having a low unburnt hydrocarbon content. The method further includes opening the EGR valve to allow hot exhaust gas to flow therethrough so as to remove combustion by-products that are fouling the EGR valve. Furthermore, the method includes producing an estimate of accumulated combustion by-product fouling of the EGR valve. The estimate is then used to determine whether and when to clean the EGR valve.

  • Patent number: 10393086
Abstract: A system and method for enhancing spark generation in an ignition coil of an internal combustion engine at low rotational speeds of the flywheel. The method and system monitor the rotational speed of the flywheel and, when the rotational speed of the flywheel is below a threshold rotational speed, the system and method supplies voltage pulses to the primary winding. The timing of the voltage pulses supplied to the primary winding are triggered off of voltage transitions in pulses induced in the primary winding upon rotation of the flywheel. Once the internal combustion engine has started, the switching device transitions into a second condition to disconnect the electrical storage device from the primary winding. The spark generation system of the present disclosure allows for starting of an internal combustion engine upon slower rope pull starting or upon discharge of a starter battery.
