  • Patent number: 10487748
Abstract: A gas turbine engine has a fan driven by a fan drive turbine through a gear reduction, a low pressure compressor and a high pressure compressor. The high pressure compressor is driven by a high pressure turbine and the low pressure compressor is driven by a low pressure compressor drive turbine through a mechanical transmission that increases the speed of the low pressure compressor relative to the low pressure compressor drive turbine. A tap taps air from the low pressure compressor and delivers the tapped air as cooling air to the high pressure turbine.

  • Patent number: 10480431
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for indicating a presence or absence of degradation in a vehicle evaporative emissions system, where degradation includes a restriction in the evaporative emissions system and/or a source of undesired evaporative emissions. In one example, a method includes, under conditions where an engine is not combusting air and fuel, applying a pressure from the evaporative emissions system to an intake of the engine, and indicating an absence of degradation in the evaporative emissions system based on a test flow in the intake of the engine being within a predetermined threshold of a baseline flow obtained at an earlier time via applying the pressure. In this way, a presence or absence of degradation may be indicated without relying on engine operation.

  • Patent number: 10473005
Abstract: A lubrication structure for an internal combustion engine includes a crankcase, an oil pump, and a relief valve. The crankcase is configured by connecting an upper crankcase on a mating surface of a lower crankcase, and has an oil pan. The oil pump and the relief valve are installed in the lower crankcase. The oil pump sucks oil in the oil pan through a suction passage, and discharges the oil into a discharge passage. The relief valve performs a valve-opening operation according to pressure of oil in the discharge passage to return surplus oil in the discharge passage to the suction passage through a surplus passage. These passages are formed in the lower crankcase. A relief valve housing section housing the relief valve, and the surplus passage allowing the relief valve housing section and the suction passage to communicate with each other, are provided to communicate with the mating surface.

  • Patent number: 10450996
Abstract: During rapid warm-up operation, a CPU executes full lift injection processing, in which a nozzle needle reaches a maximum lift amount, in an intake stroke of each cylinder of a four-cylinder internal combustion engine, and then executes partial lift injection processing, in which the nozzle needle does not reach the maximum lift amount, in a compression stroke. On the other hand, during learning of injection characteristics of partial lift injection processing, the CPU executes full lift injection processing after executing partial lift injection processing, both of which are executed within a predetermined period in an intake stroke. The CPU learns the injection characteristics based on an inflection point in the temporal change of the induced electromotive force in a coil following the end of the partial lift injection processing.
