Abstract: A method of displaying a home menu interface on a content viewing device, such as a television, is described. The interface is comprised of two components: a launcher and an accelerator. Each of these components include multiple tiles. One type of launcher tile represents a content source. The user can select this tile and enable a direct link to the content source application. Only after selecting the tile, does the content source application open. An accelerator is associated with a specific content source. An accelerator tile displays content previews or enables easy playback of content provided by the content source. The user can select an accelerator tile and enable a deep link to the content, taking the user straight to the content, bypassing a hierarchy of menu options.

Abstract: An interactive video/multimedia application (IVM application) may specify one or more media assets for playback. The IVM application may define the rendering, composition, and interactivity of one or more the assets, such as video. Video multimedia application data (IVMA data may) be used to define the behavior of the IVM application. The IVMA data may be embodied as a standalone file in a text or binary, compressed format. Alternatively, the IVMA data may be embedded within other media content. A video asset used in the IVM application may include embedded, content-aware metadata that is tightly coupled to the asset. The IVM application may reference the content-aware metadata embedded within the asset to define the rendering and composition of application display elements and user-interactivity features. The interactive video/multimedia application (defined by the video and multimedia application data) may be presented to a viewer in a player application.
Abstract: A method for broadcasting protected multimedia content includes, at predetermined intervals, having an access-rights server broadcast each new right of access to the broadcast multimedia content only to those terminals whose logins are included in a broadcast list. In response to a predetermined event, a terminal sends, to the access-rights server, via a point-to-point connection, a status message indicating, to the access-rights server, that the terminal is in its ready state. Alternatively, if the terminal is occupied, it avoids sending a status message. In the absence of reception of the status message that was expected in response to the predetermined event, the access-rights server automatically removes the identifier of the terminal from the broadcast list.
Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving a media program on a first media channel, detecting a first segment in the media program, where the first segment comprises media content combined with an embedded advertisement, determining a first emotional context from a first analysis of the media content, determining a second emotional context from a second analysis of the embedded advertisement, and detecting an inconsistency between the first emotional context and the second emotional context. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: Systems, devices and methods are provided to support multiple audio tracks in an adaptive media stream. Segments of the adaptive stream are encoded so that the player is able to locate and request a specific one of the available audio tracks using byte range requests or the like. Audio content can be removed from video segments, or at least moved to the end of the segments so that a byte range request obtains just the video content when the default audio is not desired. The audio content can be obtained from a separate audio segment. Indeed, multiple audio tracks can be packaged into a common audio segment so that byte range requests can obtain just the particular audio track desired.
Abstract: Media is selected for video playback through a first device and audio playback through one or more separate devices connected through a wireless network. Different techniques for synchronizing the audio and video can be selected based on one or more factors to improve media playback.
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for enabling time-based secondary content scheduling and dynamic placement for users of a content distribution network. In one embodiment, the network comprises a managed network, and the secondary content comprises advertising which was scheduled at the time the primary content was stored/recorded. A management process is adapted to identify the originally scheduled advertisements and utilize a temporal reference (e.g., time stamp) or other data associated with the original recording provided to the management process when an advertisement call is made dynamically, thereby preserving such relationship when the recorded content is requested for playback with a certain period of time, without having to store the advertisements with each recording. In another embodiment, a Campaign Management System (CMS) is used to associate campaigns based on a time period “in the past” (e.g., via use of one or more historic records regarding the advertisement placement for each user individually).
Abstract: In the following, a content delivery system delivers a modified version of a media asset to a current content consuming user. Control information identifying a desired attribute of the modified version of the asset is received from the current content consuming user. The media asset is modified based on the control information and audience reaction data associated with the media asset and generated by analyzing at least a previous content consuming user's reactions to the media asset while the media asset was supplied to a media output device of the previous content consuming user.

Abstract: A method for presenting feedback to a user when a command is received is provided. The method receives, at a content retransmitter, a command for navigating audio/video content selections for retransmission to a user device; transmits the received command to a set-top box for execution, wherein execution of the command at the set-top box produces a result; while gradually receiving the result at the content retransmitter, creates a period of latency when the result is only partially available for retransmission; during the period of latency, retrieves a still-image frame associated with execution of the command; and transmits the still-image frame to the user device for presentation until the result is completely available for retransmission.
Abstract: A container in a predetermined format that includes a video stream obtained by coding image data is transmitted. Display position specification information that specifies a display position of the image by the image data is inserted into a layer of the container. For example, the display position specification information is information that specifies a screen of display target. Additionally, for example, the display position specification information is information that specifies a display unit on a screen of display target. For example, information indicative of whether to change a position of the display unit on the screen of display target specified by the display position specification information or not may be inserted into a layer of the video stream.
Abstract: Techniques and mechanisms described herein facilitate consecutive live ad insertion for live media streams. A live media stream is received and played at a client device. A first ad indicator in the live media stream, indicating a first start point for a first ad period, is detected. Upon reaching the first start point, reception of the live media stream is paused and one or more first replacement ads are played instead of one or more first original ads. Before the first ad period ends, a small portion of the live media stream is fetched in order to detect the presence of a second ad indicator indicating the presence of a second, consecutive ad period in the live media stream. Upon detecting the second ad indicator, one or more second replacement ads are played during the second ad period.
