Abstract: A video presentation device is disclosed. The video presentation device comprises an electronic module including a microcontroller and a memory adapted for storing digital content, a communication link adapted to communicatively couple the electronic module with a host server, to receive multimedia digital content from the host server upon command from the host server, and a video display for playing the multimedia digital content upon command of the electronic module.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus that support implementing a pause, e.g., of a broadcast, on a device, recording the paused program and resuming playback of the paused program on a device associated with a user's account, are described. The pause function allows a user to pause a broadcast on a device and initiate recording of the paused program, e.g., to network storage. The pause initiating device displays a pause indicator indicating that the program output has been paused. A user logging into the user's account from a device other than the device from which the pause was initiated is presented an opportunity to resume the paused playback. Playback is resumed from the pause point on the playback device from which a resume signal is received. Upon resumption of playback on a device other than the device from which the pause was initiated, the pause indicator on the pause initiating device is removed.
Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention provides a method for managing applications of a broadcasting reception device and a companion device connected over a network. The method may include receiving a broadcasting signal, generating an application information list variable based on application information included in the broadcasting signal, receiving an application information-obtaining action from the companion device, the application information-obtaining action being indicative of a request message for obtaining information related to at least one specific application, transmitting an application information list variable corresponding to the at least one specific application in response to the application information-obtaining action, and providing a broadcasting service based on the transmitted application information list variable.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, or method wirelessly sends an audio component of a multimedia channel to one or more wireless computing devices while a visual component of the multimedia channel is playing on a video monitor. The audio component may be packetized into data packets and broadcast via a network such that the data packets can be received and played by the wireless computing devices in synchronization with the visual component playing on the video monitor. A channel listing may inform the wireless computing devices what channels are available. A user of the wireless computing device may request that the visual component playing on a video monitor be set to a user-selected component.

Abstract: A media processing method, device, and system where one or more media receiving clients that have a media processing capability of one or more media playback devices are separately constructed for multiple communications protocols, to-be-played media data that is sent by a media source device and that is to be played by a media receiving client specified by the media source device is received, and the to-be-played media data is sent to a media playback device that is corresponding to the specified media receiving client, for the media playback device to play. Therefore multiple media playback devices may be connected flexibly and simultaneously and a media playback device may be switched as desired during media playback.
Abstract: In an embodiment, synchronization of data processing by a first and second receiver is enabled by the first receiver processing data units of a first broadcast stream, with a play-out delay ?tp defining a time interval between transmission of a data unit to the first receiver and the processing of the data unit by the first receiver. Transmission of data units of a second broadcast stream is initiated to the second receiver, a common timeline correlating one or more data unit in the first stream with one or more corresponding data unit in the second stream. One or more data units is selected from stored data units corresponding to the second stream. At least part of the selected data units have corresponding data units of the first stream that have been transmitted to the first receiver but that have not been processed by the first receiver due to the play-out delay.

Abstract: A remote storage digital video recorder (RS-DVR) system is disclosed. The RS-DVR system includes a network interface to communicate data between the RS-DVR system and a subscriber system via a network, a file system module coupled to the network interface, an ingest agent coupled to the file system module to receive encoded media segments that represent media content files encoded at a plurality of different bitrates; and a storage architecture coupled to the file system to store the encoded media segments, resulting in stored media segments. The RS-DVR carries out a number of functions and operations to service multiple subscribers and associated subscriber systems, such as various storage device management operations, file structure techniques, assignment of recorded media to subscribers, file system indexing, and supporting shared and per-subscriber content rights.
Abstract: A video displaying method, applied to an electronic apparatus comprising a first display, comprising: (a) selecting a plurality of video contents from a plurality of candidate video contents; and (b) simultaneously displaying selected video contents selected in the step (a), respectively in sub-windows on the first display. Related video decoding methods are also disclosed.
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems for controlling the playback and recording of television programming containing interactive applications. In one example, a media content item is played for presentation to the user. An interactive application associated with the media content item is available for interaction by a user during the playing of the media content item. During the playing of the media content item, a first indication that the user is interacting with the interactive application is received. In response to the first indication, the playing of the media content item is suspended. During the suspending of the playing of the media content item, a second indication that the user has stopped interacting with the interactive application is received. In response to the second indication, the playing of the media content item is resumed.

Abstract: Provided are a video information system and a method of providing video data access history. Biomedical information or non-biomedical information that may authorize a user who is accessing video data stored in the video information system is stored to be linked to the video data as metadata of the video data, and thus, an authorized user who later accesses the video information system may identify an identity of a user who has accessed the video data. If it is determined that the user is an unauthorized user, the biomedical information or the non-biomedical information of the user may be used to determine who the unauthorized user is.
Abstract: There is provided an image processing apparatus which comprises a receiver which receives primary image content; a communicator which communicates with at least one supply source which supplies related image content of the primary image content; a signal processor which processes and outputs the primary image content; and a controller which controls the communicator to request the supply source to supply the related image content, and controls the signal processor to process and play the related image content supplied from the supply source in response to the request if a user selects a key to play the related image content of the primary image content while the primary image content received by the receiver is processed by the signal processor.
Abstract: This disclosure relates generally to communication networks, and more particularly to a system and method for dynamically optimizing a quality of a video being transmitted over a communication network. In one embodiment, the method comprises acquiring a plurality of video transmission parameters for the video being transmitted. The method further comprises deriving an optimum value for each of the plurality of video transmission parameters based on a predefined indicator of an acceptable quality of the video using meta-heuristic harmony search algorithm. The method further comprises dynamically optimizing the quality of the video based on the optimum value for each of the plurality of video transmission parameters.
Abstract: A method for distributing a video program to first and second devices is disclosed. The method comprises receiving a request for the video program from one of the first and second devices, both registered in an account at the server; transmitting the video program, but not information related to the video program, to a first selected one of the two devices according to a distance between the two devices; and transmitting the information related to the video program, but not the video program, to a second selected one of the two devices according to the distance.
Abstract: A method for presenting feedback to a user when a command is received is provided. The method receives, at a content retransmitter, a command for navigating audio/video content selections for retransmission to a user device; transmits the received command to a set-top box for execution, wherein execution of the command at the set-top box produces a result; while gradually receiving the result at the content retransmitter, creates a period of latency when the result is only partially available for retransmission; during the period of latency, retrieves a still-image frame associated with execution of the command; and transmits the still-image frame to the user device for presentation until the result is completely available for retransmission.
Abstract: A method for a server to share video information, includes: receiving descriptive information regarding a video from a first user terminal; and sending the descriptive information to a second user terminal, for the second user terminal to play the video according to the descriptive information, wherein a first user of the first user terminal has a preset relationship with a second user of the second user terminal.
