  • Patent number: 9229518
Abstract: Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with wake-on-frame mechanisms are described. According to one embodiment, an apparatus includes a packet source configured to send packets to a frame processing device and a wake-on-frame mechanism that is selectable by the frame processing device between an enabled state and a disabled state. If the wake-on-frame mechanism is in the enabled state, a packet source that has a frame to send to the frame processing device sends a wake signal to the frame processing device prior to sending the packet. The packet source sends the packet to the frame processing device after receiving a ready signal from the frame processing device.

  • Patent number: 8995445
Abstract: In a network device packets are marked with sequence identifiers at ingress of the device, switched through a plurality of switching planes and re-sequenced on a per flow basis at egress of the device. The re-sequencing system includes a controller that allocates to each received data packet a temporary storage location in a packet buffer. A plurality of output registers are provided, with each one associated with a flow. A pointer uses predefined parameters to point to an output register that has been previously assigned to receive data packets from the corresponding flow. Parameters in the pointed output register are correlated with parameters in a received packet to determine if the received packet is next in sequence to packets processed through a particular queue.

  • Patent number: 8867433
Abstract: A method of transmitting data in a wireless access system and a packet retransmitting method therein are disclosed. The present invention includes receiving an initial control message including information required for a packet retransmission from a base station, transmitting the packet to be provided with a service from the base station, and if a NACK (non-acknowledgement) signal is received from the base station, retransmitting the packet corresponding to the NACK signal to the base station using the information required for the packet retransmission and included in the initial control message. Therefore, since a separate control message needs not to be transmitted in case of packet retransmission, it is able to save radio resources and reduce an overhead by retransmitting a packet via a previously allocated retransmission region without the separate control message.

  • Patent number: 8792516
Abstract: A modular optical switch includes a set of optical switch modules connected in a mesh, a master controller for the whole optical node and a switch-module controller for each of the optical switch modules. The optical switch modules receive optical signals from, and transmit optical signals to, edge nodes based on connection requests received from the edge nodes. The master controller acts to select a path, using a simple or compound time-slot matching process, through the mesh of switch modules for each optical signal related to a connection request. Advantageously, the optical switch modules are fast switching, enabling the use of time-sharing schemes such as TDM, and the modular optical core node is made practical by efficient path selection at the master controller. A hybrid modular switch may include both optical and electronic switch modules, a master controller, and a switch-module controller for each of the switch modules.

  • Patent number: 8792497
Abstract: A network node or corresponding method of performing link aggregation reduces a number of Content Addressable Memory (CAM) entries required to make a forwarding decision for a given ingress flow, reducing cost, size, and power consumption of the CAM and accompanying static RAM. In one embodiment, an ingress flow is mapped to an egress flow identifier. Subsequently, the egress flow identifier is mapped to a member of an aggregated group associated with an egress interface based on information available in a given ingress flow. Finally, the given ingress flow is forwarded to the member of the aggregated group associated with the egress interface. A hashing technique or two lookups may be used alone or in combination in mapping the ingress flow to the egress flow identifier to reduce CAM memory usage.

  • Patent number: 8687519
Abstract: A system, method, and Ethernet bridge utilizing forced MAC learning to set up a path from an originating node, PON (23) to one or more terminating nodes, PTN (12) through intermediate bridge nodes (14, 21). In the point-to-point case, a Previous Hop Bridge (PHB) list defines the links in the path. Each link includes a destination address, source address, port number, and VID. A path learning frame (13, 19, 22) containing the list is sent in reverse order from the PTN through the intermediate bridge nodes to the PON. Each node in the path saves the received frame's header information as learned path information using standard MAC learning functionality, removes the node's own information from the list, and forwards the frame with the remainder of the list to the next node using the port specified by the port number for that link. When the frame arrives at the PON, all nodes have saved the learned path information.
