  • Patent number: 4741090
Abstract: Centering device for inserting pins in a multipin housing designed to receive an integrated circuit, whose pins are in the form of stems fitted with flat heads. The stem goes through a plane part, called the housing substrate, through holes which have first been metallized, with the pins protruding from one of the faces of the substrate by a length sufficient to ensure the fastening of the housing. The flat head bears upon the other face of the substrate via a metal preform of an alloy which is suitable for ensuring the fusion or melting for fastening the pins. This centering device consists of three parts. The first part is formed by a first metallic plate; the second part is formed by a second metallic plate used for calibrating the centering of the pins, said metallic plate being drilled with holes arranged in a geometrical pattern in compliance with the pattern chosen for the arrangement of the pins on the housing and calibrated so as to hold and to center the stems in the housing holes.

  • Patent number: 4741082
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for making and reinforcing a catalytic unit intended for purifying exhaust gases, in which method a helical catalytic unit is formed from a corrugated foil band (2) and a straight foil band (3), placed one on top of the other, by securing the foil bands, coated in advance with both a layer of support material and a layer of catalyst material, to a central shaft (4), around which the catalytic unit is formed. Thereafter, end supports (5) are secured to the ends of the shaft in such a way that they press somewhat to inside the unit and prevent movement of the foil bands in relation to each other.

  • Patent number: 4741102
Abstract: An alignment sensing device for use with an article and an apparatus requiring alignment of the article in relation to the apparatus. The alignment sensing device has a first lever and a second lever with an aperture corresponding to a portion of an outer contour of the article. The first lever is pivotally mounted to the second lever, allowing rotation of the first lever relative to the second lever from a normal rest position to an engaged position. The alignment sensing device is movable toward the article, thereby initiating contact between the first lever and the article. The first lever begins to rotate from the normal rest position toward the engaged position, while the alignment sensing device continues to move toward the article. Subsequently, if the article is aligned with the apparatus, the aperture of the second lever matingly encompasses a portion of the outer contour of the article, while the first lever simultaneously reaches the engaged position which is sensed by the alignment sensing device.

  • Patent number: 4741097
Abstract: A line tie assembly and various methods of installing a line tie to a conductor cable are described herein. The line tie is comprised of helical end portions and a generally undeformed, non-helical central portion therebetween. The helical end portions are adapted for circumferential gripping engagement with the conductor cable. The line tie is universal such that it will accommodate various size insulators and is adaptable to both "top tie" and "side tie" arrangements in single-support and double-support constructions. According to one set of installation methods, individual components of the line tie are spread apart along the non-helical central portions and positioned over an insulator. Another set of installation methods use the insulator as a mandrel for bending the line tie into a generally U-shaped configuration.

  • Patent number: 4741087
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of making pre-expanded braided sleeving from flexible strands of either conductive or nonconductive filaments, or a combination thereof, along with entrapped warp filaments of heat shrinkable material. The warp filament material is commonly known as heat reactive material and, when briefly subjected to heat below its fusion temperature, shrinks in the order of 30% to 50% of its length and very substantially expands the sleeving thereby greatly expediting the assembly thereof over an elongated object. Thereafter the sleeving is readily contracted into a snug fit with the object upon being tensioned between its opposite ends.

  • Patent number: 4741085
Abstract: A cushioning apparatus for a railway car includes a housing having a cylinder bore disposed therein with an end plate closing one end of the cylinder bore. A piston assembly includes a shaft extending through the end plate and a piston disposed on the shaft and slidably received within the cylinder bore. The piston is slidable between an axially innermost position furthest from the end plate and an axially outermost position closest to the end plate. A limit pin has an interference fit within a pin bore of the end plate and extends outward therefrom toward the piston for initially limiting axially outward movement of the piston short of its axially outermost position to thereby limit a length of the cushioning apparatus prior to installation of the cushioning apparatus in a railway car. To repair the cushioning apparatus, the cylinder, cylinder end plate and piston assembly are removed from the housing.

  • Patent number: 4738011
Abstract: A method of producing a composite sliding material having a sliding portion with a sliding surface is disclosed. A base material billet for the sliding portion is prepared and then at least half of the outer peripheral surface of the base material billet is covered by a protecting material while leaving the surface of the billet, which is to become the sliding surface of the finished composite sliding material, as an exposed portion which is not covered by the protecting member. The base material billet and the protecting material are then extruded simultaneously. The composite sliding material may be made thinner by means of rolling as occasion demands. It is also possible to subject the sliding material to heat treatment before and/or after extrusion, if necessary. A composite sliding material may be produced by pressure-bonding a hard support material such as steel to the protecting material which is used in this case as an adhesive layer.

  • Patent number: 4736520
Abstract: Automatic manufacture of integrated circuit packages including a leadless chip carrier is facilitated by providing, in strip form, flexible tape circuitry having a dielectric layer and a conductive layer. Through selective etching, regularly spaced central openings are formed in the strip for subsequent placement of the leadless chip carriers. The arms are formed in the conductive layer and extend into the openings. Members are formed in the dielectric layer around each opening. A leadless chip carrier is placed in an opening and its pads are bonded to the arms. With the chip carrier thus secured to the strip, its position is controlled by the strip drive means which moves each chip carrier to assembly and testing stations. Electrical testing is accomplished with probes adapted to contact the arms. Temperature cycling and other mechanical tests also are conducted with the chip carrier attached to the tape.

  • Patent number: 4736522
Abstract: Process for loading of test pins into printed circuit board test fixtures. Test pins are loaded into a loader body, and locked thereto by a sliding locking plate through frictional engagement at an interface where in test pin hole is of a reduced surface area. Upon alignment of the loading body to the sliding lock plate, increasing surface area of each test pin hole, the test pins drop through the loading body into the test fixture. The lower surface area of the head of the test pin controls movement of the test pin between the loading body and the test fixture through gravity free fall. After circuit board testings, the test pins are reloaded back to the original location within the loader body for subsequent new circuit loading and testing.
