Abstract: A system includes a processor configured to store a buffer of accelerable broadcast content. The processor is also configured to determine that a predefined condition exists, defining a situation where content acceleration is appropriate. The processor is further configured to determine a broadcast content playback point where content should be accelerated and playback a predetermined portion of the buffer at a predefined accelerated pace, responsive to reaching the playback point.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for returning to a first media asset that was replaced by playback of a second media asset when the first media asset is trending in social chatter. A media guidance application may identify the first media asset. In response to receiving a command from a user input device to access a second media asset, the media guidance application may replace playback of the first media asset with playback of the second media asset and monitor a social network for chatter relating to the first media asset. In response to detecting a threshold amount of chatter on the social network relating to the first media asset, the media guidance application may identify a play position in the first media asset corresponding to the chatter, and replace playback of the second media asset with playback of the first media asset at the identified play position.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a social entertainment platform that supports live social video streaming and messaging. One common use for this social entertainment platform is to allow audience members to watch and interact with a person playing an electronic game. The social entertainment platform allows a streamer to stream live (in substantially real-time) on a network(s), such as the Internet, for a live audience to view and to respond to the live entertainment. The social entertainment platform includes several unique areas, including a real-time broadcasting component, a real-time messaging component, and an integrated user interface (UI) component, that make the social entertainment platform advantageous to use over traditional platforms.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media can be operable to facilitate a transfer of one or more buffer chunks including an I-Frame. When a new play or media transition occurs, a transfer of buffer chunks from a buffer to a decoder may be initiated such that an I-Frame at the beginning of the buffer is transferred and available to a client for playback. A decoder may be flushed a new transfer of buffer chunks beginning with the first buffer chunk may be initiated when a determination is made that PAT/PMT acquisition is complete and A/V play has started. A first buffer chunk may be repetitively transferred from the buffer until a determination is made that PAT/PMT acquisition is complete and A/V play has started.

Abstract: A streaming media file processing method and a live streaming system are provided. The method includes slicing a streaming media file into slices according to a preset time unit; creating a playing sequence number for each slice based on time data, where the playing sequence number is used to determine an order of playing back the slices; and storing the slices and the playing sequence numbers of the slices separately and establishing a mapping relationship between the slices and the corresponding playing sequence numbers. The present disclosure slices the streaming media file based on the preset time unit, and creates the playing sequence number for each slice based on time data, and selects and processes the slice file corresponding to the playing sequence number based on the time information, which facilities the subsequent operation to the slice file. In addition, the present disclosure also provides a live streaming system.

Abstract: The invention relates to a computer implemented system and method for compiling real-time user emotion data in connection with an event as the event is taking place, then aligning targeted communications based on that data. The method may comprise the steps of: providing a user interface for a personal computing device enabling a user to publish statements and provide real-time responses to an event, wherein the user interface receives real-time responses from the user as unstructured text or a selected response; receiving the user's real-time responses; recording response content, response timing, bio data and a user location for the user's real-time responses; compiling the user's real time responses with responses from other users in a group to generate aggregated response data; distributing the aggregated response data to the group; generating real-time emotion data for the user, and sending a targeted communication to the user based on the real-time emotion data.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for providing media clips that depict referee's decisions that are similar to a decision made in a sporting event being currently consumed by the user. A media guidance application may be configured to perform the actions described herein. Specifically, the media guidance application may determine, that an officiator of the sporting event stopped play for a specific situation. In response, the media guidance application may extract metadata that corresponds to the specific situation and compare the metadata that corresponds to the specific situation with metadata for similar situations that occurred in other similar sporting events. The media guidance application may identify a similar situation or event that occurred in another similar sporting event (e.g., the same sport) and generate for display video of the similar situation.

Abstract: Described herein are methods and systems for automatically selecting television channels for display on one or more televisions based on the viewing preferences of the viewers. The viewers can enter their viewing preferences in a database through a user interface that a controller can access. The controller can receive, for a premises (e.g., a sports bar), a list of viewers. Based on the viewing preferences of the list of viewers, the controller can determine a single or a ranked list of television channels for display on the televisions. If there are multiple televisions, the controller can assign each of the televisions a television channel from the ranked list based on the ranking. The controller can send an instruction to the STB controlling the television(s) to set the assigned television channel to the assigned television.

Abstract: A media guidance application may indicate popular content by applying a visual attribute to a display of content listings. A media guidance application may generate for display media asset listings in a list. The media guidance application may determine a popular first media asset listing of the media asset listings. The media guidance application may identify a second media asset listing of the media asset listings based on a cursor position. The media guidance application may determine a proximity metric based on a position of the first media asset listing in the list relative to a position of the cursor. The media guidance application may select a visual attribute for the cursor based at least in part on the proximity metric and how popular the popular first listing is. A visual attribute may include, for example, a color.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for generating and delivering selected primary content and contextually-related, targeted secondary content to users of a network. In an exemplary embodiment, the network comprises a packet-switched data (e.g., IP) network such as the Internet, and the primary content comprises video or media clips that are user-selectable via a network site or web page. The primary content carries with it descriptive metadata that is accessed by a distribution server and forwarded to a secondary content source. The secondary content source (or its proxy) utilizes the metadata to identify and return contextually-related secondary content such as advertising links. This secondary content is then presented to the user in conjunction with the primary content, such as in a common display window and in a seamless fashion, thereby avoiding distractions to the user associated with generating ancillary windows or other display mechanisms, and providing the user with highly relevant secondary content choices.

Abstract: A system capable of generating and storing program data associated with localized content, such as over-the-air television broadcasts. The system may update a knowledge base with the program data to improve natural language understanding (NLU) processing associated with the localized content. For example, a voice enabled device may receive a voice command and the system may perform NLU processing to interpret the voice command, determine content based on the program data and send an instruction to an output device to output the content. The program data may include information about localized content such as channels detected by the output device and/or content broadcast on the channels, including information about an output device, a channel number, call sign, station name, signal strength, etc. associated with a detected channel, and/or a program name, genre, actors, directors, producers, etc. associated with content broadcast on the channel or stored in a local storage device.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method and system for issuing media information, including: obtaining a listing of changed media information that is in an unprocessed state, including identification information of a target changed field for pre-configured target media information, and original field content information and new field content information of the target changed field for the pre-configured target media information; updating the pre-configured target media information based on the new field content information of the target changed field; receiving a request for the pre-configured target media information from a media subscription client; and in response to receiving the request for the pre-configured target media, issuing the updated pre-configured target media information to a media subscription client, wherein the media subscription client displays the updated pre-configured target media information in lieu of the pre-configured target media information.

The method includes segregation of one or more mapped fragments into one or more logical sets of mapped fragments. The method includes mining of semantic context information from each mapped fragment. The method includes clustering of the one or more logical sets of mapped fragments into one or more logical clusters. The method includes allocation and insertion of one or more advertisements in one or more advertisement slots. The method includes assembling of the one or more logical clusters of mapped fragments.

Abstract: A receiving apparatus is provided. The receiving apparatus includes: a receiver configured to receive an input signal including a transmission frame which includes a bootstrap, a preamble, and a payload; a bootstrap detector configured to detect the bootstrap based on a correlation between the input signal and a reference signal which is pre-stored; and a signal processor configured to signal-process the preamble based on the detected bootstrap and signal-process the payload based on the signal-processed preamble, and the bootstrap detector is configured to determine the correlation by quantizing at least one of the input signal and the reference signal and then multiplexing the input signal and the reference signal at least one of which is quantized. Accordingly, an area occupied by hardware and cost can be reduced and loss of performance can be minimized.

Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and methods are provided for defining ad space in a video. For example, a computer can receive an identification of a video and an advertisement space definition that includes a time stamp for the advertisement space in the video and an advertisement length. The computer can receive a request to view the video. The computer can determine an advertisement to play in the advertisement space such that the advertisement is not longer than the advertisement length included in the video's advertisement space definition. The computer can provide access to the video, and when the video reaches the time stamp, the advertisement is played in the advertisement space.

Abstract: Video streams, either in form of on-demand streaming or live streaming, usually have to be transcoded based on the characteristics of clients' devices. Transcoding is a computationally expensive and time-consuming operation; therefore, streaming service providers currently store numerous transcoded versions of the same video to serve different types of client devices. Due to the expense of maintaining and upgrading storage and computing infrastructures, many streaming service providers recently are becoming reliant on cloud services. However, the challenge in utilizing cloud services for video transcoding is how to deploy cloud resources in a cost-efficient manner without any major impact on the quality of video streams. To address this challenge, in this paper, the Cloud-based Video Streaming Service (CVSS) architecture is disclosed to transcode video streams in an on-demand manner.
