  • Patent number: 7295811
Abstract: Measurements for handoff are made by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) operating with a switched beam antenna in a wireless communication system. The switched beam antenna is a smart antenna generating a plurality of directional beams and an omni-directional beam. The WTRU measures signals from a plurality of cells with the omni-directional beam and/or one or more of the directional beams. The WTRU evaluates and reports to the network measurement of the omni-directional beam or the strongest beam for adding cells to an active set of cells. For removing cells from an active set of cells, the WTRU evaluates and reports to the network measurements of the antenna beam selected for communication with the active set cells.

  • Patent number: 7295832
Abstract: An identification information transmission pathway is separated from a system side to be performed by a mobile authorization means of an owner of a security module in a wireless way. To this end, the security module comprises two interfaces, i.e. one for a communication with a terminal and a further one for wirelessly communicating with the mobile authorization means. The mobile authorization means supplies identification information to the security module for an authentication examination at its part, either stored in the authorization means in a memory or otherwise generated there, like e.g. via biometric sensors, via a keyboard or the like. The security module, performing the examination of the identification information, like e.g. preferably via a zero knowledge method or a zero knowledge protocol, respectively, only then indicates a request for an action at the terminal, like e.g. of a money transfer, when the examination is successful.

  • Patent number: 7295833
Abstract: Sharing content among users of mobile devices is facilitated and controlled by a system and method that employs a content sharing application to receive and process requests to share content among users of devices such as mobile devices and personal computers. Recipients receive share content messages from the content sharing application indicating that they have been selected to access shared content. Such messages may provide direct or indirect access to the shared content via the recipient mobile device. Recipients can specify privacy management schemes to limit or control the receipt of such messages. The content sharing application may also provide various spam filtering techniques that prevent users from abusing the system, including restricting the number or type of requests to share content that may be effectuated over time.

  • Patent number: 7289790
Abstract: A system and method are provided for authenticating a new device in a wireless network using an authentication device. First, the new device estimates the distance between the new device and the authenticating device as a first distance measurement, and sends the first distance measurement to the authentication device. The authentication device then estimates the distance between the new device and the authenticating device as a second distance measurement. The authentication device then evaluates the first and second distance measurements to determine if they meet authentication criteria and sends authentication data to the new device only if the first and second distance measurements meet the authentication criteria. These criteria can be that they do not differ by more than a set error value or that they both are below a set maximum value.

  • Patent number: 7289811
Abstract: A method and system for estimating the number of transceivers in a service area (100) are disclosed. A calibration area (102) is selected from the service area, and a defined number of transceivers are placed in the calibration area. Input parameters are determined for the defined number of transceivers, which are refined so as to ensure that the input parameters satisfy a customer-specified requirement. The measured input parameters for the refined number of transceivers are used to calibrate a Radio Frequency (RF) coverage prediction tool for the calibration area. The calibrated RF coverage prediction tool is further used to estimate the number of transceivers in the service area.

  • Patent number: 7280830
Abstract: A method and network for automatic registration of a new device first establishes a “home” relationship between the new device and a network server, such that no additional configuration is required by a user of the new device to communicate over a network once the relationship is established. Next, registration information for the new device is automatically obtained, and can include information concerning the user of the new device, which can already be known to the network server, the new device itself obtainable directly from the new device, and the network server. The network server then establishes a connection with a registration server and sends the registration information to it. In this manner, the new device is automatically registered with very little, if any, input from the user. Other services can be provided to the new device by the registration server utilizing the “home” relationship.

  • Patent number: 7269403
Abstract: This invention presents a dual-mode wireless/wired power line communications that is used to carry signals with variable transmission data rates from 31.0 Mbps to 173.6 Mbps over a power line cable. The dual-mode wireless/wired power line communications can be seamlessly used either to connect with any wired devices over cable lines directly or to connect with any wireless devices without wires. This enables multiuser to access high-speed Internet over the wall power sockets, and to provide distribution of data and multiple data streams, such as voice over IP, audio and video, HDTV, throughout the home, office, hotel room or airport waiting area, and so on. On the other hand, using the dual-mode wireless/wired power line communications modem is to utilize the availability of an existing infrastructure of wires and wall outlets, thereby eliminating the requirements of new installation of power line cables.

  • Patent number: 7254400
Abstract: The present invention aims to perform communication between the wireless terminals by adopting the existing networks and by avoiding the congestion on the network. The terminal location databases set at various networks control the position information of the wireless terminals. According to one of the steps in the method of the present invention, a wireless terminal inquires a terminal location database for the position information of a destination wireless terminal. Then, as for the next step, the wireless terminal receives a reply from the terminal location database regarding the position information of the destination wireless terminal. As for the following step, the wireless terminal communicate to the destination wireless terminal.
