  • Patent number: 7215943
Abstract: Secure access by a mobile wireless terminal of a wireless telephony network is achieved by having a Home Location Register store the terminal's temporary and permanent identities. Upon accessing the network following initial registration, the terminal sends a temporary identity to a Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN). If no serving node in the network knows the terminal, the terminal need not sent its permanent identity in clear as was previously required. Rather, the serving node need only query the HLR since the HLR can map the terminal's temporary identity to its permanent identity. In this way, the permanent identity of the mobile wireless terminal remains secure.

  • Patent number: 7212814
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for efficiently managing the storage of e-mail message information for a mobile station are described. In one illustrative example, a plurality of e-mail messages are received by the mobile station through a wireless network and stored in memory. If a size of the e-mail messages reaches a predetermined limit of the memory, e-mail message bodies of some of the e-mail messages (e.g. relatively “old” e-mails) are automatically deleted from the memory while e-mail message headers of the e-mail messages are retained. E-mail message headers of e-mail messages having deleted e-mail message bodies may still be visually displayed in a list at the mobile station. Subsequently, if a user selection of one of these e-mail messages in the list is identified, an e-mail message body of the e-mail message is requested by the mobile station and received from a server through the wireless network.

  • Patent number: 7197333
Abstract: A paging system and method for use in a multimedia/broadcast multicast service (MBMS). The paging system checks a paging indicator channel of a UE (User Equipment), and determines whether there is a paging signal associated with a broadcast service. If the paging signal associated with the broadcast service is detected, the paging system recognizes the channel information indicative of the paging fact, checks paging information included in an ID for differentiating between the broadcast service and other broadcast services and a paging response indicator adapted to determine a transmission channel scheme of the broadcast service, establishes a radio link, and receives control information using the radio link. The base station controller adapted to manage a cell including the UE transmits MBMS transmission scheme information to the UE in advance using the paging information, resulting in maximum use efficiency of RRC (Radio Resource Controller) resources.

  • Patent number: 7197312
Abstract: Reject code handling is utilized for a more time-efficient selection of data-capable networks. One illustrative method for use in selecting a wireless communication network for communications involves the steps of causing a request for data connectivity to be transmitted through a first wireless network; reattempting the request for data connectivity through the first wireless network one or more times if a reject code comprising a non-critical error is received in response to the request for data connectivity through the first wireless network; and attempting to select a second wireless network for communications without reattempting the request for data connectivity through the first wireless network one or more times if a reject code comprising a critical error is received in response to the request for data connectivity through the first wireless network.

  • Patent number: 7181205
Abstract: The amplitude and phase errors of the modulation and demodulation in a transceiver are corrected by a self-calibration procedure in which a test signal is applied to the baseband input of the transmitter, and the output of the modulator is looped back to the input of the demodulator. The amplitude and phase errors of the resulting signal at the baseband output of the receiver are detected, and the contributions of the transmitter and receiver to the errors are separated and resolved into amplitude and phase components. Adjustments are then made to the amplitude and phase balance in the transmit and receive signal paths to correct the errors.
