Abstract: A new master application definition is installed at a server. Responsively, the server determines the identity of a user associated with the server-side application related to the master application definition. The server may then generate an application definition file specific to the application and to the remote wireless device associated with the identified user. The application definition file may contain definitions for: a user interface format; a format for network messages; and a format for storing data. Using these definitions, the wireless device may receive data generated by the server-side application and formatted in accordance with the definitions. The wireless device may then present a user interface for the application. Preferably, the application definition file is an XML file. Advantageously, when changes occur to previously established server-side applications, automatic updating of devices is efficiently accomplished.
Abstract: In network groups adjacent to each other constructed by communication apparatuses notifying beacons, the communication apparatuses can exchange necessary data between themselves, avoiding interference. Communication stations in a group set one beacon period to operate the network group. A communication station in the group acquires a beacon period and a reservation period of an adjacent group, sets its own reservation period avoiding the acquired beacon period and reservation period, and as necessary, enters the adjacent group to exchange necessary data. A device shared by a plurality of users does not belong to any group, and a communication apparatus in a different group temporarily enters the beacon period as necessary to exchange data.
Abstract: The method provides buffer status reporting for the transmission of uplink data from a wireless device to a base station. Uncompressed data is stored in a first buffer of the wireless device. A buffer status report is transmitted from the wireless device to the base station, where the buffer status report contains information indicating an amount of the uncompressed data to be transmitted from the wireless device. The information is dependent on the amount of the uncompressed data stored in the first buffer.
Abstract: A method for generating a serving grant at a wireless transmit/receive unit is disclosed. An absolute grant channel signal is decoded to obtain an absolute grant from a serving cell. A relative grant channel signal is decoded to obtain a relative grant from a serving radio link set and a relative grant from a non-serving radio link. A first serving grant candidate is generated based on the absolute grant from the serving cell or the relative grant from the serving radio link set. A second serving grant candidate is generated based on the relative grant from the non-serving radio link. The serving grant is generated based on the first serving grant candidate and the second serving grant candidate.

Abstract: Interoperability between wireless communication systems, such as the IS2000-1x and IS856 systems, is facilitated by using supervision timers. A wireless communication device starts one or more supervision timers and performs an intersystem transition. When the wireless communication device returns from the transition, the supervision timers are used to estimate the duration of the transition. The wireless communication device then performs a sequence of tasks appropriate to the estimated duration.

Abstract: A first node seeking entry into a secure spread spectrum communications network sends a discovery burst at a low rate, and sends traffic bursts at a higher rate to exchange data rate for range. A receiving node receives discovery bursts via an omni-directional link and transmits and receives traffic bursts via directional links. As a node within the network detects a fading signal, it transmits a discovery burst at low rate on both its uplink and downlink channels. Other nodes may reply via the original uplink channel, and the fading node updates a list of candidate nodes through which it can relay through the network to its intended recipient by reversing the link direction of its original uplink and original downlink channels.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for adjusting processing time for responding to a request for location of a mobile station. A mobile location server or other position-determining system sends a location query to the mobile station and determines if the mobile station possesses a fresh set of assistance data usable by the mobile station to acquire satellite-based positioning data. If the determination is that the mobile possesses fresh assistance data, then the system waits a first time period for the mobile station to respond to the query, otherwise the system waits a second time period greater than the first time period for the mobile station to respond. If the mobile station responds in time, the system returns in response to the request a specific indication of the mobile station's location; otherwise, the system returns a general location, such as a cell sector location for instance.
Abstract: A system and method for allocating vocoder resources for interconnect calls includes consideration of what percentage of interconnect calls have been assigned to a particular vocoder type. In an embodiment a vocoder type is assigned to a given interconnect call based on a comparison of the available capacity of the telecommunications network to one or more threshold values, and a determination on whether or not the percentage of interconnect calls assigned to a given vocoder type has exceeded a threshold percentage. In certain embodiments, the vocoder is adapted to operate in one of at least two possible types, where the first type is characterized by a higher voice quality, but a lower network capacity, than the second type.

Abstract: A method and a device for reallocating transport format combination identifiers (TFCI) of transport format combinations (TFC) forming a transport format combination set (TFCS) in a wireless system utilizing flexible layer one (FLO). Whenever a TFC is removed from the TFCS the corresponding TFCI is left vacant. The vacant TFCI is then assigned to a TFC with a subsequent TFCI. Such TFC with subsequent TFCI may be either the closest one to the vacant TFCI (by its TFCI) or the last one, for example. The size of TFCIs may be reduced if enabled by the assigning phase.
Abstract: A paging apparatus and method in a mobile communication system providing an MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service). In the mobile communication system, to page a UE for a first service through a primary carrier during a second service in progress through a secondary carrier, a PICH (Paging Indication Channel) transmitter in a Node B transmits paging indication information to the UE through the primary carrier by oscillating the primary carrier as a transmission frequency. A PCH (Paging Channel) transmitter transmits paging information to the UE through the primary carrier or the secondary carrier by oscillating the primary carrier or the secondary carrier as the transmission frequency under a predetermined control. A PBMSCH (Physical Broadcast Multicast Shared Channel) transmitter transmits data of the second service through the secondary carrier by oscillating the secondary carrier as the transmission frequency.

Abstract: The present invention leverages changes in the sensed strength of radio signals at different locations to determine a device's location. In one instance of the present invention, inference procedures are used to process ambient commercial radio signals, to estimate a location or a probability distribution over the locations of a device. In another instance of the present invention, a system utilizes learning and inference methods that are applied to rank vector of signal strength vectors. Moving to such rank orderings leads to systems that bypass consideration of absolute signal strengths in location calculations. The present invention facilitates approximations for locating a device by providing a system that does not require a substantial number of available ambient signal strengths while still providing useful location inferences in determining locations.

Abstract: In a high-speed search system for CDMA, plural (M) symbols which are subjected to spread frequency coding with a spreading code called as a short code are prepared when synchronization of the spreading code is established before synchronization of carrier is established in a mobile station used in a CDMA cellular system, data which are obtained by forming an orthogonal code with the polarities of the M symbols are set as a down signal, and when the orthogonal code concerned is detected, coherent integration is performed by a correlator having combinations of the polarities which can be possibly taken by the code over the plural symbols (of M) constituting the code.
Abstract: A network for a cellular communication system comprises access points (105-109) supporting cells within a region (113). Each access point (105-109) has an individual proxy address of a proxy address space which is a local address space of an address proxy (101) and a common network address of a network address space which is a network wide address space. A gateway access point (103) covers an entry point to the region (113) and detects a remote station entering the region. It then determines an access point (105) in the region to which the remote station is handed over and transmits a binding message to the address proxy (101) with an indication of the access point (105). In response to receiving the binding message, the address proxy (101) establishes a binding between the common network address and the proxy address of the access point (105). Data for the remote station is then forwarded to the access point (105) using the binding.

Abstract: At least three base stations transmit a specific signal pattern at given intervals. This allows a mobile station that received this signal pattern to locate itself by using the positional information about the base stations, sending timing (or information on phase shift from the reference time) of each signal pattern from the base stations, and signal pattern receiving time information. At least one of the above base stations changes the sending timing of the signal pattern. On this occasion, the mobile terminal or station is notified of the altered reference time offset (or information on phase shift from the reference time) of the sending timing or updated sending timing of the signal pattern.
Abstract: Channels are assigned based on co-spatial constraints in wireless network using spatial division multiple access. In one example, the invention includes assigning a co-spatial constraint to each of a plurality of conventional traffic communications channels of a base station, and receiving a request from a user terminal to communicate using a traffic communication channel of the base station. The invention further includes measuring a quality parameter of the request deriving a co-spatial constraint for the user terminal, assigning the user terminal co-spatial constraint to the user terminal, and assigning the user terminal to a traffic communication channels having a channel co-spatial constraint that is no less than the user terminal co-spatial constraint and that has no more assigned radios than permitted by the channel co-spatial constraint.
