  • Patent number: 7340281
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for enhancing reception of wireless communication signals. A beam pattern including at least one set of beams is generated. Where the beam pattern includes at least two sets of beams, the beam sets may be offset with respect to each other and alternated to enhance reception. Beams may be selected for data processing based on a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and may be maximal-ratio combined where signals from a single WTRU are detected within more than one beam and are used for data processing.

  • Patent number: 7330735
Abstract: Interoperability between wireless communication systems, such as the IS2000-1x and IS856 systems, is facilitated by using supervision timers. A wireless communication device starts one or more supervision timers and performs an intersystem transition. When the wireless communication device returns from the transition, the supervision timers are used to estimate the duration of the transition. The wireless communication device then performs a sequence of tasks appropriate to the estimated duration.

  • Patent number: 7327710
Abstract: As the transport format used for the respective processing at least including rate matching, error correction decoding, and CRC judgment, a within-TTI majority TF adjusting unit decides the majority transport format as the most reliable one, of the received transport formats when receiving various transport formats depending on frames during a transmission time interval of a transport channel. As another reliable transport format, when determining the transport format information for use in the decoding processing of a transport channel, the transport format to be selected from the transport formats in the frames obtained during the same transmission time interval may be decided according to the maximum likelihood or the maximum receiving quality other than the majority rule.

  • Patent number: 7319878
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining a position of a base station in a wireless communication network that includes a mobile station in communication with base stations. A BTS calibration server is networked with the base stations. A BTS calibration program is programmed into a group of mobile stations that have position location capabilities. Using the BTS calibration program, calibration information may be requested by the BTS calibration server, or a session may be initiated by the mobile station. The BTS calibration program also provides privacy features that allow user of the mobile station to prevent it from being used for base station location. If authorized, the BTS calibration program determines the position of the mobile station, and provides calibration information, such as position and base station phase measurements, to the server. The calibration information may be used to calibrate the base station almanac.

  • Patent number: 7315744
Abstract: A system for improving the efficiency of a wireless communications network that employs a plurality of frequencies per cell. The system includes a first mechanism that monitors the network load associated with each of the plurality of frequencies and provides corresponding status values in response thereto. A second mechanism compares the status values to predetermined loading criteria and provides an indication in response thereto when one or more of the status values meet the criteria. A third mechanism redistributes the network load in accordance with the indication. In a specific embodiment, the criteria include one or more predetermined thresholds such that when one or more of the predetermined thresholds is surpassed by the one or more of the status values, the criteria are met. The status values are representative of loading conditions for communications system resources associated with each of the frequencies.

  • Patent number: 7272358
Abstract: A four channel wireless network channelization scheme is described that is particularly usable in the ISM frequency band between 2400 MHz and 2483.5 MHz. The preferred channelization scheme permits access points to be set at one of four frequencies in the ISM band, not three as taught by the IEEE 802.11b standard. This channelization scheme takes advantage of the fact that only 20 MHz is typically needed between adjacent access point channels, not 25 MHz as is taught by the 802.11b standard. With four channels to choose from, a higher density of access points can be located thereby accommodating a higher density of users. The four channels preferably are 2407, 2427, 2447 and 2467 MHz. With this selection of channel frequencies and given the current FCC regulations, all four channels can be used to transmit an equal amount of power.

  • Patent number: 7266106
Abstract: A method of adapting payload transport between a mobile station (MS) and an unlicensed-radio access network controller (UNC) using the Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP). During the activation of a traffic channel, the UNC and MS negotiate an initial sample size for the payload to be carried in each RTP packet. Thereafter, if network conditions change to the point that a different sample size is needed, another negotiation is initiated to change the sample size for the ongoing session. The UNC may suggest a sample size, and the MS selects the closest sample size that the MS can support and uses the selected sample size in RTP packets that it sends to the UNC. The UNC checks the received RTP packets and automatically adopts the sample size utilized by the MS. The UNC and MS may also negotiate changes to redundancy coding and other parameters that affect voice quality.

  • Patent number: 7257401
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for delivering a message to a communications device. One method migrates a subscriber's communications device to a Global System for Mobile communications network. The subscriber's communications device is migrated from a Time Division Multiple Access communications network or a Code Division Multiple Access communications network. An origination request is received from the communications device, and the origination request is for sending the message from the communications device. The origination request includes a network address. The network address is associated to a signaling point code, and the signaling point code identifies a message service center in the Global System for Mobile communications network. The origination request is routed to the message service center in the Global System for Mobile communications network, wherein the origination request is processed by the message service center.

  • Patent number: 7248606
Abstract: A radio apparatus and base station apparatus that flexibly respond to an increase or decrease in the number of users without being constrained by the number of users. An A-DPCH signal processing section (106) generates dedicated transmission signals corresponding in number to users multiplexed based on the number of users for each sector input from a control station apparatus and outputs the multiplexed signal to a multiplexing section (105). An HSDPA signal processing section (107) selects a transmission destination sector based on an instruction from a base station control section, generates multiplexed transmission data and outputs the multiplexed data to the multiplexing section (105). The multiplexing section (105) code-multiplexes dedicated transmission signals of A-DPCH and packet data in HSDPA communication for each sector and outputs the multiplexed data to a radio transmission section (104).
