    Abstract: A molecular dynamics system employing a spliced soft-core potential (the “MD/SSCP”) facilitates studying the arrangement of particles in an enclosure and/or near an interface. In some embodiments, the MD/SSCP initializes a three-dimensional representation containing the enclosure and the particles in a first arrangement. The MD/SSCP conducts a first simulation to transition the representation to a second arrangement, during which the particles are allowed to move through a wall of the enclosure while the SSCP is unengaged. The MD/SSCP conducts a second simulation to transition the representation to a third arrangement, during which it becomes more difficult for the particles to move through the wall of the enclosure while the SSCP is gradually engaged. The MD/SSCP conducts a third simulation to transition the representation to a fourth arrangement of the particles, during which it becomes almost impossible for the particles to move through the wall of the enclosure.

The method uses the three-dimensional vector field to move a plurality of centroids of the in-situ block model to populate a three-dimensional post-blast location. Then method optimizes the populated three dimensional post-blast location to determine a plurality of sets of optimal dig boundaries.

A surrogate model is a machine learned model that uses a collection of inputs and outputs from a simulation of the chemical production process and/or actual production data as training data. Once trained, the surrogate model can estimate an output of a chemical production process given an input to the process. Surrogate models are not directly constrained by physical conditions in a plant. This can cause them to suggest optimized outputs that the not possible to produce in the real world. It is a significant challenge to train a surrogate model to only produce outputs that are possible. The technology described herein improves upon previous surrogate models by constraining the output of the surrogate model to outputs that are possible in the real world.

To determine whether a complex system (which may be uninspectable) is able to operate safely, various operating regimes (scenarios) can be identified based on operating data and associated with a scenario parameter to be adjusted. To validate safe operation of such a system, a scenario may be identified for inspection. Error metrics of a subsystem of the system can be quantified. The error metrics, in addition to stochastic errors of other systems/subsystems can be introduced to the scenario. The scenario parameter may also be perturbed. Any multitude of such perturbations can be instantiated in a simulation to test, for example, a vehicle controller. A safety metric associated with the vehicle controller can be determined based on the simulation, as well as causes for any failures.

A validated geologic model is then generated.
