  • Patent number: 6216343
Abstract: A corrugated fin heat pipe and method of fabrication. The micro channel heat pipe includes a tubular housing split longitudinally into two halves. A pair of corrugated fin elements defining a plurality of adjacent closed and open micro capillary channels are attached to the inner surface of the housing halves. Material is removed from the closed micro capillary channels along a portion of the longitudinal axis to create regions consisting entirely of open micro capillary channels, maximizing heat flux in those regions. The housing halves are reattached and the heat pipe housing is enclosed by a pair of end caps.

  • Patent number: 6203668
Abstract: A device for fastening a roll to the frame construction in a paper machine, paper finishing machine, or equivalent, wherein the ends of the roll are provided with bearings. The bearing housings of the bearings, or fastening bases formed onto the bearing housings, are mounted against a back-up face formed on the frame construction so as to position the roll in its place on the machine frame. On the machine frame, fastening members are arranged to be displaceable in a direction substantially perpendicular to and against the back-up face formed on the frame construction and include flange portions, i.e., shoulders or equivalent formed pieces. Correspondingly, the bearing housings, or fastening bases arranged thereon, are provided with grooves corresponding to the shape of the flange portions of the fastening members. When the roll is installed in its place, the flange portions pass into the grooves in the bearing housings.

  • Patent number: 6199278
Abstract: A method whereby one or more occluders are inserted in the housing of a prosthetic heart valve by compressing the housing of the prosthetic heart valve at four discrete locations, thereby causing the housing to deform sufficiently for insertion of occluders between diametrically opposed pivot supports on the inner surface of the housing. The appropriate locations for application of the compressive forces are identified. Compression force is then applied using either pin blocks or v-shaped blocks. One or more occluders are inserted in the pivot supports. The compressive forces are released, allowing the housing to return to its unstressed generally annular shape and securing the occluders in the housing.

  • Patent number: 6189211
Abstract: A relatively simple, effort-saving and cost-saving arrangement and a corresponding method for repair and/or maintenance work in the inner casing of a multishell turbomachine is provided. To this end, after a tool carrier is put into the outer casing of a turbinemachine, the connecting elements of top part and bottom part of the inner casing are slackened. The top part of the inner casing is then lifted in the outer casing to such an extent that the tool carrier can reach into the inner casing. To this end, at least one locating fixture for a lifting device is arranged on the top part. A radial distance is formed between the at least one outer casing and the inner casing, the radial distance corresponding to at least the radial extent of a tool carrier to be introduced into the inner casing.

  • Patent number: 6163947
Abstract: A method of making a novel brachytherapy device is disclosed. The device is formed from a hollow-tube-shaped seed-substrate, allowing the easy association of the device with suture material. This shape minimizes the chance of migration of implanted seeds due to better attachment to tissue. The distribution of the radioactive material on the exterior surface of an interior tube of the tubular device provides a relatively uniform radiation field around the hollow-tube-shaped brachytherapy seed source. Methods are disclosed of making brachytherapy devices that are inherently radioactive. Also disclosed are methods of making devices that can be rendered radioactive by the transmuting effects of neutron irradiation. Brachytherapy devices are disclosed that facilitate medical application and improve safety for patients and medical personnel.
