Patent number: 5688536Abstract: An apparatus for producing an oriented plastic strap having a predetermined desired thickness and flatness characteristics for use in connection with the strapping of packages or the like, is disclosed. A sheet workpiece is conducted into a nip defined between a pair of opposed milling and stretching rollers wherein one of the rollers is rotated at a lineal surface velocity which is greater than the lineal surface velocity of the other roller, and the rollers are rotated in opposite directions. One of the rollers effectively brakes or retards one of the surfaces of the sheet workpiece while the other one of the rollers effectively accelerates the other one of the surfaces of the sheet workpiece as the workpiece passes through the nip defined between the rollers whereby the workpiece is simultaneously milled and stretched.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1996Date of Patent: November 18, 1997Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Donald L. Patent number: 5653846Abstract: The present invention provides a laminating apparatus including a sheet conveyor for conveying a sheet to be laminated, a film conveyor for conveying an elongated laminate film, a pressurizer for overlapping the sheet and the laminate film and for pressurizing the sheet and the laminate film, a film cutter for cutting the laminate film overlapped with the sheet, a sheet detector for detecting the sheet conveyed by the sheet conveyor, and a controller for controlling the film cutter. The controller is so controlled that the laminate film is cut in registration with the leading and trailing ends of the sheet on the basis of detection by the sheet detector.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1995Date of Patent: August 5, 1997Assignees: Canon Aptex Inc., Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Kazuo Onodera, Hideaki Furukawa, Koji Nakamori, Noriaki Nakazawa

Patent number: 5651999Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for testing the integrity of tubing formed by extruding material through an extrusion die. The apparatus includes a source of helium gas which is fluidly connected to the extrusion die so that helium gas is continuously introduced into the interior of the tube as it is formed during the extruding process. The extruded tubing is passed through an elongated inspection housing open at each end. The inspection housing has a cross-sectional inside shape greater than the cross-sectional shape of the tubing thus forming an annular chamber between the tubing and the interior of the inspection housing. A helium detector constantly monitors the atmosphere within the annular chamber and, whenever helium is detected, indicative that the tubing has a leak or the fault, activates an alarm.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1995Date of Patent: July 29, 1997Assignee: Pilot Industries, Inc.Inventor: Charles J. Armentrout

Patent number: 5647571Abstract: A mold apparatus for forming concrete border stones has a unitary generally rectangular body with contiguous opposed longitudinal side walls, opposed outwardly curved end walls at each end thereof, an open bottom end, an apertured top wall, and an interior vertical wall extending transversely between the longitudinal side walls. The walls circumscribe generally rectangular longitudinally adjacent cavities for receiving concrete therein and generally rectangular openings in the top wall define generally rectangular longitudinally adjacent openings at an upper end of the cavities. An opening through a lower portion of the interior vertical wall joins the lower portion of adjacent ends of the cavities together. In a preferred embodiment the vertical wall is disposed closer to one end wall than the other to form a longer generally rectangular stone shape and a longitudinally adjacent shorter generally rectangular stone shape.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1995Date of Patent: July 15, 1997Inventor: Jack T. Patent number: 5609887Abstract: Granular material is produced by discharging a viscous material from a vessel and onto a support surface on which the material solidifies. The vessel has first openings through which the material flows, and a belt travels across lower ends of the first openings, whereupon second openings of the belt periodically come into alignment with the first openings to permit a downward flow of the material. The belt comprises a plurality of links having long and short sides, with the long sides arranged parallel to one another and perpendicular to the direction of belt travel. Mutually facing long sides of adjacent links have undercut grooves which receive an elastic connector in the form of a pair of parallel rods received in the recesses and interconnected by springs.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1995Date of Patent: March 11, 1997Assignee: Santrade Ltd.Inventor: Reinhard Froeschke

Patent number: 5607701Abstract: A meltblowing die for producing nonwoven polymer webs includes an inner tube having a plurality of orifices arranged in a row thereon, and an outer tube encasing the inner tube and having a slot formed therein in registry with the row orifices. The inner tube and outer tubes are constructed to define converging air passages on either side of the row of orifices, whereby hot air delivered to the outer tube converges on polymer fibers extruded through the orifices and imparts drag forces thereon to attenuate and draw down the fibers to microsize.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1995Date of Patent: March 4, 1997Assignee: J&M Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Martin A. Patent number: 5591458Abstract: A mechanism for making granulated material from a viscous substance includes a vessel charged with the substance and having a discharge opening arrangement for discharging the substance onto a cooling surface. A belt travels across the vessel, the belt having openings arranged to periodically come into alignment with the discharge opening arrangement to allow the substance to fall onto the cooling surface. The discharge opening arrangement comprises a plurality of rows of discharge openings. Each row extends transversely of the longitudinal direction of belt travel, and the rows are spaced apart in that longitudinal direction. The vessel openings of each row are offset in the transverse direction with respect to the vessel openings of other rows. A collection arrangement collects residual substance falling from the belt and returns the substance onto the belt at a location upstream of the vessel.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1995Date of Patent: January 7, 1997Assignee: Santrade Ltd.Inventors: Reinhard Froeschke, Axel Konig
