  • Patent number: 3988829
Abstract: A portable housing encloses a source of power which provides rotational motion. Means for converting the rotational motion to a reciprocal motion supports a punch which is reciprocated with respect to the housing along a particular surface of a first die member. A second die member is adapted to be disposed over the punch to form a die channel with the particular surface and to provide a cutting surface against which the sheet metal can be cut by the punch. Stripper means is provided to extend on the opposite side of the sheet metal from the cutting surface to maintain the sheet metal in a substantially contiguous relationship with the cutting surface of the second die member.

  • Patent number: 3988828
Abstract: Apparatus for shearing sheep and other animals comprises a handpiece provided with a reciprocating fluid operated motor, the reciprocating element of which directly actuates a transversely oscillatable cutter operating member. The handpiece is connected by flexible tubing to power generating means by which successive pressure pulses are imparted to the fluid, preferably a hydraulic fluid, such pulses being transmitted through the tubing to the motor so that the cutter operating member of the handpiece is oscillated in unison therewith. The said power generating means preferably comprises a master cylinder which communicates with a hydraulic fluid reservoir which maintains the system full of fluid and said pressure pulses are produced by a plunger which is reciprocated in the master cylinder by power operated means.

  • Patent number: 3987544
Abstract: A guide bar for a chain saw including a main bar portion having its outer end edge abutting a mating inner end edge of a nose portion. At least a section of one of the bar portions adjacent the abutting end edges is formed by side plates supported in a spaced apart position by spacing posts. A connecting web connects the bar portions with the said one bar portion fitting between the spaced apart side plates. The web is provided with slots to accommodate the supporting posts and displaceable ear portions extend into the slots to resist but not prevent passage of the posts. Forcing the said one bar portion over the web causes the ear portions to deflect around the supporting posts which then resists but does not prevent separation of said one bar portion from the web.

  • Patent number: 3986260
Abstract: A cutting system utilizes a cutting blade-holding base that removably holds a number of long razor cutting blades in a corresponding number of longitudinal slots. A replaceable blade knife of the cutting system has a cutting blade-gripping member with a bifurcated lower region extending throughout its length and dimensioned for resiliently gripping one of the long razor blades. The blades are placed within the blade-gripping member of the cutting knife by placing the heel end portion of the bifurcated region over the razor blade at this point and then angling downward so that the remainder of the bifurcated region resiliently grips the cutting blade throughout its entire length. The cutting blade-holding base also serves to store the knife with its cutting blade by insertion of the blade into an empty slot of the base.

  • Patent number: 3986304
Abstract: The guard cover for a commodity slicing machine sharpener extends over and protects the otherwise exposed knife edge at the knife sharpening area. The guard protects the knife edge at all times regardless of whether the sharpener is in the sharpening position, storage position, or is being moved between these positions. The sharpener employs a non-rotatable honing stone which seeks proper honing relationship with the knife upon coming into contact therewith. A latch holds the sharpener when in the sharpening position and prevents it from being returned to the storage position until released. The latch release is position dependent so that the operator's hand and fingers should be in a certain predetermined position on the sharpener housing, away from the knife edge, to operate the latch release.

  • Patent number: 3981078
Abstract: An electric knife has two mutually reciprocating cutting blades and an adjustably spaced guide blade. The guide blade is mounted on a cylindrical cap that slidably encloses a cylindrical sleeve fixed to the knife handle, and is rotatable about an axis defined by a threaded rod perpendicular to the planes of the blades and coaxial with the cap and sleeve. A knurled nut on the threaded rod holds the cylindrical cap against a coil compression spring which also acts as a torsion spring urging the guide blade downwardly relative to the cutting blades against an abutment that also serves as a gauge for the thickness of the slices to be cut, manipulation of this knurled nut effecting this adjustment.
