    Abstract: A T-die adapted for extrusion molding of a plastic material such as plastic film is constituted by a lower stationary half and an upper movable half. The stationary half is integrally provided with a steady lip portion and a movable half is provided with a base portion and flexible lip portion so as to form a gap in slit form between the steady and flexible lip portions. The gap is adjusted partially by a plurality of adjusting bolts screwed to the upper portion of the movable half extending to cover the flexible lip portion with space, the bolts being arranged in a line along the longitudinal direction of the T-die and spaced equally with each other. Each bolt has such a length that the front end thereof downwardly presses the flexible lip portion when the bolt is driven downwardly. The flexible lip portion is provided with a plurality of U-shaped grooves each disposed between the adjacent two bolts and having a width of an opening substantially equal to the distance between the adjacent two bolts.

    Abstract: A melt spinning apparatus is disclosed which comprises an elongate heating chamber having a generally U-shaped outline in cross section and so as to define two parallel leg sections of hollow, double wall construction, and an intermediate leg section extending between the two parallel leg sections which is also of hollow, double wall construction in several of the disclosed embodiments. A plurality of longitudinally spaced apart tubular nozzle casing receptacles extend vertically through the bottom one of said leg sections, and a pump block rests upon such bottom one of the leg sections so as to completely cover each of the casing receptacles. Each pump block includes a connecting plug aligned with each of the receptacles for releasably mounting a nozzle assembly within each of the receptacles, and the pump block is connected to a metering pump which is disposed between the parallel leg sections for pumping the melt through the melt supply lines of the pump block and to the nozzle assembly.

    Abstract: A melt spinning apparatus is disclosed which comprises a stationary melt supply assembly which includes a spin block, and a nozzle assembly releasably connected to the spin block. The means for releasably connecting the nozzle assembly to the spin block includes a cylindrical connecting plug fixed to the spin block, and a tubular casing for the nozzle assembly, with the connecting plug and casing being threadedly interconnected. The mating threads are preferably in the form of a threaded bayonet joint comprising multiple thread segments so that the nozzle assembly may be attached to and removed from the connecting plug by a partial rotation of the nozzle assembly. Also, the nozzle assembly is sealed to the melt supply assembly by an arrangement which includes a piston mounted for limited movement within the casing of the nozzle assembly and below the connecting plug, and such that the piston is biased into sealing contact with the plug by the pressure of the melt.

    Abstract: A method of reducing wastage during the start-up phase of an extrusion device used to produce extruded profiles such as tread strips for vehicle tires from a plurality of mixtures is disclosed. The extrusion device comprises a plurality of extruders each extruding a component of the profile and each extruder has its own drive means. The outlets from the extruders communicate with a template member having flow channels formed therein which lead into a common extrusion port. The drive means are actuated simultaneously and the pressure of each of the components is monitored in the outlet region of each extruder. These pressures are compared with a pre-determined desired pressure by a control device, which device switches-off the appropriate drive means as each desired pressure is attained. When all desired pressures have been attained, all of the drive means are re-actuated simultaneously by the control device.

    Abstract: In a method for the continuous pressing of sheet material in a reaction zone between two endless, heated press belts of a double band press at increased process temperatures, the capability for operating at process temperatures which are higher than critical, permissible operating temperatures of the double band press is achieved by heating the press belts in such a way that they have the highest temperature at their outsides facing the sheet material with heat flow through the press belt being effected from the hot outer side to the opposite inner side of the press belt. The heat flow direction in the reaction zone which otherwise leads from a pressure plate to the press belt outer side is thus reversed and, in apparatus for performing the method, heating members are arranged in the vicinity of the press belt on the outer side thereof shortly before the reaction zone.

    Abstract: The stretching machine comprises a spinning bar, a blowing compartment, and a stretching chamber. The spinning bar has a plurality of spinning nozzles, from which the individual fibers are put out or extruded in a thermoplastic condition. The blowing compartment is provided with blowing nozzles or orifices through which air is introduced as a cooling as well as stretching means. The stretching chamber has stretching chamber walls which can form an accelerating constriction having a venturi nozzle like shape as seen in vertical cross section. The stretching chamber walls comprise a deformable material, which permits a deformation of the stretching chamber walls during operation. A plurality of adjusting mechanisms for adjusting the shape of the stretching chamber walls are connected to and distributed at various heights over the stretching chamber walls.

    Abstract: An adjustable feed block for a coextrusion die is provided. The feed block comprises a main central channel for conveying a main stream of molten thermoplastic material towards a coextrusion die, and at least one secondary channel, substantially parallel to the central channel, for conveying a second molten thermoplastic intended to form a local coating layer on the main stream. The downstream end of each secondary channel is inclined relative to the central channel and connected to a portion of the periphery of the said channel. The connection between the central channel and each secondary channel is laterally delimited by the ends of two adjustable slides which can be moved at right angles to the axis of the central channel. These slides make it possible to adjust, during operation, the position and width of the streams of thermoplastic deposited on the main stream.

    Abstract: A die for extruding honeycomb structural bodies includes a plurality of ceramic batch exhaust grooves and a plurality of ceramic batch supply apertures. Tubes are fitted in at least some of the ceramic batch supply apertures to improve or make constant the surface roughness and dimensions of inner surfaces of ceramic batch supply apertures through which the ceramic batch passes, thereby producing perfect ceramic honeycomb stuctural bodies. The adjustment of flow of ceramic batch is so simplified that any other controlling plate which would be required in the prior art is not needed for controlling the flow. When the supply apertures have been worn off, the tubes are exchanged by new ones to restore the required inner surfaces easily.

    Abstract: A differential pressure thermoforming machine has a female mold with a female mold cavity, and an opposing mold, with a mold closing portion cooperable therewith. A foam injection head is perimetrally separated from the mold closing portion and is provided on the opposing mold. When the molds are initially closed, a differential pressure is created in the molds to cause the heated plastic sheet to move into contact with the mold cavity and form a configured pocket in the sheet. Mechanism is provided for releasing the plastic sheet from the carriage in which it has been moved between the molds, after the molding operation, to the cavity in the female mold, after which the molds are restored to spread-apart position.
