  • Patent number: 4606714
Abstract: A radial tire having an annular cavity is built with precision and positioned between the upper and lower mold sections of a tire press. An upper center mechanism has an inflatable clamping bladder for gripping the upper bead of the tire which is suspended from the center mechanism to insure orientation of the tire components in substantially the built condition of the tire. The upper center mechanism including the upper bead ring and clamping bladder is lowered to grip and center the upper bead on the upper bead ring. The lower bead is positioned over the lower bead ring and sealing air may be utilized to provide the neccessary centering and seating. The sealing air in the tire cavity is maintained at a pressure sufficient to hold the beads in seating engagement with the bead rings while the curing bladder is being inserted in the tire cavity and while the clamping bladder is deflated and retracted with the center support assembly from the tire cavity.

  • Patent number: 4599061
Abstract: In a heating device for use in a vulcanizing apparatus in which a green tire is vulcanized by using a metal mold, three magnetic cores around each of which an electromagnetic coil is wound are arranged equidistantly on at least one surface of the metal mold, and a magnetic yoke is arranged on these magnetic cores. Then, three phase alternating currents are respectively supplied to the electromagnetic coils to generate uniform magnetic fluxes passing through portions of the metal mold between adjacent magnetic cores. Therefore, it is possible to obtain the heating device for use in the vulcanizing apparatus which can realize the uniform eddy current distribution i.e. the uniform temperature distribution in the metal mold by a simple construction.

  • Patent number: 4599060
Abstract: A die/target is disclosed for consolidation of a powder, especially an atomized rapidly solidified metal powder, to produce monoliths by the dynamic action of a shock wave, especially a shock wave produced by the detonation of an explosive charge. The die/target comprises a rectangular metal block having a square primary surface with four rectangular mold cavities formed therein to receive the powder. The cavities are located away from the geometrical center of the primary surface and are distributed around such center while also being located away from the geometrical diagonals of the primary surface to reduce the action of reflected waves so as to avoid tensile cracking of the monoliths. The primary surface is covered by a powder retention plate which is engaged by a flyer plate to transmit the shock wave to the primary surface and the powder. Spawl plates are adhesively mounted on other surfaces of the block to act as momentum traps so as to reduce reflected waves in the block.

  • Patent number: 4599065
Abstract: A row of slide fastener coupling elements of synthetic resin or metal is pressed between a pair of first and second presser rolls having first and second confronting presser surfaces engaging legs of the coupling elements. The first and second presser surfaces have closest confronting portions spaced from each other by a distance equal to the width of each of the coupling elements. The second presser roll is displaceable with respect to the first presser roll to vary the distance. The first presser roll has a spur gear held in mesh with a pin gear on the second presser roll. The first and second presser rolls can be rotated in synchronism by the spur gear and the pin gear even when the second presser roll is displaced relatively to the first presser roll. The first and second presser rolls also have partition ridges for meshing engagement with the legs to keep them spaced apart at equal intervals. One of the first and second presser rolls has a third presser surface for engagement with coupling heads.

  • Patent number: 4597729
Abstract: A tire curing press with an improved loader includes a shaping or center mechanism which includes a vertically movable well on which is mounted the bottom bead or toe ring. The press includes a loader of improved design affording precision centering and accuracy which is driven for vertical movement by a ball screw and nut drive which positions the green tire concentric with the upper and lower mold sections and over the bottom bead ring. The loader then moves the green tire downwardly until the lower bead of the green tire reaches a predetermined point touching or fairly closely adjacent the elevated bead ring. Simultaneously, an adjustable pad on the loader contacts the tip of an extended rod of a vertically oriented synchronizer piston-cylinder assembly.

  • Patent number: 4595553
Abstract: A method and apparatus whereby tire mold is closed to within approximately one inch of full closure with a green tire in place therein for molding, and the mold is then evacuated employing a vacuum conduit prior to full mold closure whereby air within the mold cavity is evacuated and the necessity for vent holes in the mold is eliminated. A mold for practice in the invention is free of vent holes in the thread, sidewall, and bead portions of the mold and includes, along the parting line, at least one vacuum conduit whereby the mold cavity may be evacuated to not more than 16932 Pa within not more than about 60 seconds employing a source of vacuum. Seals are provided radially outward of the vacuum conduit along the parting line, and, where necessary, adjacent any moveable bead ring associated with the tire mold. Seals are preferably of a type wherein a differential between pressures experienced by one seal surface and obverse seal surface cause a more effective sealing arrangement.
