Patent number: 4971410Abstract: A self-contained optical scanning unit for use in a bar code scanner includes a motor driven hollow drive shaft through which is projected a laser light beam from a laser source positioned adjacent one end of the drive shaft. Mounted on the other end of the drive shaft is an optical transceiver which includes a deflecting portion which deflects the laser light beam outwardly towards a ring of mirrors which forms a scanning pattern for scanning a coded indicia and a collection portion which collects the reflected light beams from the coded indicia and directs the light beams at a detecting member. Patent number: 4966443Abstract: A light beam scanner for scanning a light beam not by using an optical part such as a rotary polygon mirror or a galvanometer but by using a phase-conjugate element (or phase-conjugate mirror) having a non-linear light effect to establish a phase conjugate beam due to four-light wave mixing. The phase-conjugate element constitutes a resonator, when irradiated with and excited by a pumping light beam, together with a reflecting face existing in its vicinity so that laser oscillations are effected inbetween. Between the phase-conjugate element and the reflecting face, there are interposed a plurality of optical gates, some of which are opened to constitute a resonator and to generate the laser oscillations and a conjugate laser beam for recording. Thus, the scanning operation can be accomplished by controlling the optical gates to be opened or closed.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1989Date of Patent: October 30, 1990Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventor: Hiroyuki Hiiro

Patent number: 4966428Abstract: Apparatus for the manufacture of integrated circuits using holographic techniques in which a holographic image formed on a first recording medium provided on a glass slab is replayed by being scanned in order to reproduce an image of the holographic image on a second recording medium provided on a silicon slice. The replay source provides a a collimated narrow circular beam or elongated beam which passes normally through a face of the prism, through an index matching liquid located between the prism and the glass slab before being totally internally reflected at the other surface of the glass slab. The collimated replay beam provides control over the effective numerical aperture thus preventing wide angle radiation from degrading the quality of the printed image.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1989Date of Patent: October 30, 1990Assignee: Holtronic Technologies LimitedInventor: Nicholas J. Patent number: 4963003Abstract: A laser optical system is designated to obtain Gaussian beams by correcting phases of laser beams emitted from a laser which oscillates on transverse multimodes. A spectral element is adapted to separate spectroscopically the laser beams in each transverse multimode which are emitted from the laser in such a way that the respective transverse modes for each order appear as their corresponding luminescent points on each of the phase correcting elements. A correction is performed by the phase correcting plate so that the phase between each adjacent luminescent point becomes the same phase, whereby the laser beams are reflected to the spectral element. The laser beams thus phase-corrected are combined into one, thereby obtaining Gaussian beams.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1989Date of Patent: October 16, 1990Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventor: Hiroyuki Hiiro

Patent number: 4955703Abstract: This invention relates to a device for an outside mirror for motor vehicles which is electrically slowly shiftable around a vertical axis for adjustment purposes and rapidly shiftable temporarily by a switch to check the blind spot. A supplemental device comprises first element which, when said switch is actuated, oscillates between two limit points whereby at the actuation of said switch a synchronous and fast shifting of the mirror around the vertical axis is effected, and a second element running synchronously with the slow shifting of the mirror around the vertical axis for adjusting the mirror to the distance of the driver's eyes fixes the two limit points for the fast shifting of the mirror. According to the invnetion the supplemental device (without said switch) is situated directly behind the mirror. A third element extends into the supplemental device establishing a direct mechanical connection between the mirror and the first and second element. Thus a very compact and secure device is formed.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1989Date of Patent: September 11, 1990Inventor: Miroslaw Janowicz

Patent number: 4906084Abstract: A mirror for use in harsh environments, such as an anti-condensation shower mirror where hot water is sprayed onto the back of the mirror, comprises a transparent sheet (10), preferably of acrylic, a reflective film (12) on one side of the sheet, a protective layer (14) of paint on one side of the reflective layer, and a protective backing layer (16) of plastic, preferably made of PVC, on one side of the protective layer. The protective plastic backing layer protects the fragile paint and reflective films against the effects of hot water, which would otherwise cause these layers to deteriorate and flake off, thus running the mirror over time. Also an edge gasket of rubber (18) may be provided around the edges of the mirror to protect the edges of the layers.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1989Date of Patent: March 6, 1990Assignee: ShowerTek, Inc.Inventor: Thomas R. Patent number: 4895437Abstract: Homogeneous illumination of a strip of area (12) on a surface (13) of a substrate (10) is achieved by directing light at a plurality of first light-reflective members (22) arranged above the substrate in spaced relationship parallel to the longitudinal axis (17) of the strip. Each ligh-reflective member (22), which takes the form of a three-sided prism reflector, splits the light incident thereon into two beams (40) which are each reflected by the reflector in an opposite direction downwardly at the strip so as to strike it at a grazing angle. Light is also directed at a second light-reflective body (30) which takes the form of a metal bar spaced above the substrate parallel to the longitudinal axis (17). The bar has a light-reflective surface (32) which serves to reflect the light directed thereat towards the strip (12) at an inclined angle in a direction generally perpendicular to the beams (40) reflected by the first light-reflective members (22).Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1989Date of Patent: January 23, 1990Assignee: American Telephone and Telegraph Company, AT&T Bell LaboratoriesInventor: Israel Amir
