  • Patent number: 3986886
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of manufacturing cement clinker from raw material in the form of cement raw slurry wherein the raw material is subjected to an initial heat treatment by bringing it into contact with hot gases by subjecting it to an initial spray drying in a spray dryer to convert the raw slurry into cement raw meal and preheated in a suspension preheater prior to burning it in a rotary kiln. Hot gases are directed from the rotary kiln to the preheater for preheating the spray dried raw meal while hot gases are directed to the spray dryer to provide heat for spray drying the raw slurry. A means for producing supplementary hot gases is provided with means for directing said supplementary hot gases in a manner to provide supplementary heat for heat treating the raw material prior to feeding it into the kiln. A rotary kiln plant for manufacturing cement clinker from raw material in the form of cement raw slurry according to the method of the invention is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 3980486
Abstract: A method of heat treating a preheated, pulverous raw material consisting of or containing lime, such as cement raw meal. Preheated pulverous raw material is accumulated in a lower portion of a calcination chamber and a substantially incombustible gas is introduced into the accumulation at a sufficient velocity to traverse the accumulation to cause surface portions to overflow a weir. An oxygen-containing gas is introduced into a flame chamber overlying the accumulation. At least one flame is maintained within the flame chamber by burning a fuel therein. The heat necessary for at least partially calcining particles of raw materials suspended in the incombustible gas and oxygen-containing gas is transmitted from the flame to the suspension of raw materials. The treated materials may then be subjected to a finishing calcination and/or any other final heat treatment.

  • Patent number: 3980485
Abstract: A method of forming a peat based product comprises the steps of mixing raw peat with a binder, e.g. Portland Cement, and an amount of internal draining agent for the peat, e.g. hydrated lime, and pressing the resulting mix in a mould to remove at least half the chemically free water content from the mix. The amount of internal draining agent for the peat is preferably not less by weight than about half the amount of binder, and the water content of the raw peat is usually at least 90% by weight and this may be reduced to less than 35% by weight of the mix during pressing. In a variation, a mixture of ground silica sand and hydrated lime initially provides the draining agent, and the pressed article is cured in an autoclave, the silica and hydrated lime combining during autoclaving to provide the binder.

  • Patent number: 3977997
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of a modified titanium-containing component of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst for the polymerization of C.sub.3-6 .alpha.-monoolefins, wherein a specific titanium-containing compound and a specific phosphorus-containing compound are dry-milled at a specific grinding acceleration in a vibratory ball mill. The characteristic feature of the process of the invention is that a mill is used which has a specific useful volume and the mill is initially charged with a specific amount of the titanium-containing compound, which is milled at a low temperature while the phosphorus-containing compound is gradually added, whereupon milling is continued while the temperature of the process material is gradually raised to a specific value and maintained at said value for a specific period of time, whereupon, if desired, milling is again continued at a lower temperature for a specific period of time.
